Britney Spears' Return to the Glamourous Life

The following italicized article is from www.eonline.com:

Another day, another step on the ladder for Britney Spears' return to the top.

The pop princess will appear on the cover of Glamour magazine's January issue, several sources exclusively tell me.

Back in early September, there were reports that Spears was shot by photographer Patrick Demarchelier for Vogue magazine. But as I told you, speculation eventually focused in on Glamour after a rep for Anna Wintour's fashion bible shot down the Vogue rumors.

A January issue of a major women's magazine like Glamour makes perfect sense. It will hit newsstands just about the same time Spears' new album, Circus, is released Dec. 2. Spears has also just signed a deal with live entertainment company AEG to produce her upcoming world tour.

She has appeared once before on the cover of Glamour, back in 2003 for its annual Women of the Year issue.

A music label rep for Spears did not comment. A rep for Glamour would not confirm or deny a Spears cover, because the magazine has a policy of not commenting on upcoming issues.

Jury Selection Begins In Britney Spears’ Driver’s License Case

The following italicized article is from www.accesshollywood.com:

Britney Spears’ legal team headed to court on Wednesday, as jury selection began in the pop star’s driver’s license case.

Because the single charge of driving without a license is a misdemeanor, Britney will not be required to appear in court during the trial.

Attorneys for both sides were present in the Van Nuys courthouse early Wednesday.
The judge met with all sides behind closed doors for nearly an hour.

Following the meeting in chambers, Britney’s attorney, Michael Flanagan, told Access Hollywood they will proceed with the trial and jury selection will soon begin.

The driving without a license charge stems from an August 2007 incident, in which the starlet was videotaped as she bumped another vehicle while parking her Mercedes-Benz. She left — without leaving a note — after looking over the damage to her car from the fender-bender.

The owner of the other vehicle later filed a police report and Britney was charged a month later with misdemeanor hit-and-run and driving without a valid license.

The hit-and-run charges were dismissed in October 2007 after Spears paid an undisclosed sum to the owner.

Last week, Flanagan, rejected a plea deal, which would’ve carried a penalty of a $150 fine and 12 months probation for the singer.

“A misdemeanor is a criminal offense and I will not plead to one,” Flanagan told Access Hollywood. “This [case] is a tremendous waste of time.”

As a result, Flanagan instead opted for a jury trial, which began today.

Flanagan has maintained that Britney was driving with a valid Louisiana license at the time, because she owns homes in that state.

However, prosecutors suggest because she has lived in California for quite some time, Britney was legally required to have California license, which she has since obtained.

“The max you could get is six months in jail, but I’ve never seen it,” Flanagan said after last week’s hearing.

According to People, Britney now faces up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Britney Spears Gets Her Nails Did

Britney Spears, who is surely happy that her new single Womanizer is the #1 song this week on Billboard magazine’s Hot 100 chart, tried to pull one over on the paps yesterday when she tried to sneak off to meet up with her mother Lynne Spears. A decoy vehicle was sent on its way in order to try and lure the paparazzi away from following the car delivering her to a nail salon where she was meeting her mother for an afternoon of pampering. The paps got wise to Britney’s scheme when they noticed that her bodyguards were following her secret vehicle rather than the decoy vehicle. In any event, Britney showed up to meet with her mother and the ladies shared a laugh or two as they had their nails scrubbed, buffed and polished:
It is really a great sight to see Britney look this happy again. I have really missed her loud, boisterous laugh that has been long absent from daily sightings of our dear Britney. Things were far from a laughing matter last year when the world watched our girl spiral downward into a pit of despair and tragedy. Seeing her look this happy once again … I’m telling you, I’ll never tire of championing her recovery. Never. I am very much looking forward to more happy times with our dear Britney. More music is surely on the way, a new World Tour is promised for next year … the sky is the limit again. Britney absolutely has cause to laugh and celebrate these days. Enjoy it, Brit … the best is yet to come :)

"Womanizer" Music Video Available On iTunes!

I smell another record breaker! "Womanizer," Britney's #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as ranking #1 on iTunes in top digital songs, is now availble for purchase on iTunes! Now it's time to get the music video, which has already been streamed more than 8 million times on the web, to the top of the charts in digital sales.

Britney Spears Rides "Womanizer" To No. 1

The following italicized article is from www.latimes.com:

Britney Spears is hot, hot, hot once again, scoring the biggest leap to No. 1 in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. Her new “Womanizer” rocketed from No. 96 to No. 1. The track registered 286,000 downloads last week, according to Billboard, the highest figure for a female artist since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking downloads in 2003.

"Womanizer" edged out Mariah Carey ’s “Touch My Body,” the previous record holder, by just 200 downloads, Billboard noted. It’s the first single from Spears' forthcoming “Circus” album, due Dec. 2.

On the album chart, T.I.’s “Paper Trail” is on top again, selling 177,000 copies during its second week. Rise Against’s “Appeal to Reason” entered at No. 3 with first week sales of 65,0000 copies.

Oasis' “Dig Out Your Soul” bows at No. 5, selling 53,000 copies out of the gate. It’s the British group’s first Top 10 album since “Be Here Now” came out in 1997.

Bob Dylan landed right behind Oasis at No. 6 with the eighth volume in his “Bootleg Series” of albums culled from his archive of previously unreleased material, “Tell Tale Signs,” spanning tracks he recorded from 1989-2006. It’s also the best reviewed album of 2008 so far, scoring a composite 91 points (out of a possible 100) at Metacritic.com.

Britney Spears’s ‘Womanizer’ Rockets To #1

Despite the fact that Britney Spears’s new single Womanizer was accidentally removed from the iTunes online music store for a 24 hour period (and has since reappeared on the site), the single still made a record-breaking leap to the #1 spot on the Billboard magazine Hot 100 singles chart to become the #1 song in the country:
Another week, another record-breaking jump to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Britney Spears makes a near-maximum 96-1 rise with “Womanizer,” returning to the top of the list for the first time since her debut single “…Baby One More Time” hit No. 1 in January 1999. This is the third time in the past two months that the mark for the biggest jump to No. 1 has been shattered. On the Hot 100 dated Sept. 6, T.I. soared 71-1 with “Whatever You Like” and last week he sprinted 80-1 with “Live Your Life.” Spears’ single is spurred by first-week download sales of 286,000, the biggest opening-week tally by a female artist since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking digital downloads in 2003, besting Mariah Carey’s take for “Touch My Body” by just over 200 units. In between her nearly 10-year gap between No. 1s, Spears has placed four other top 10s on the Hot 100, the last being “Gimme More,” the first single from her last set, “Blackout.” That song jumped 68-3 last October with first-week download sales of 179,000. “Womanizer” previews Spears’ sixth studio set “Circus,” due Dec. 2 via Jive.

Sooo … according to Billboard magazine, Womanizer becomes Britney’s second #1 song on the Hot 100 chart?! I guess I never really paid attention to her chart success considering all of the amazing singles she has put out over the years. I am pretty geeked that Britney’s song made a record-breaking jump from the #96 position to the #1 position — especially when you consider the song charted even before it was available for sale and managed to make its mark based solely on radio play. I think it’s quite clear that Britney’s comeback is in full swing with this news … now the question becomes, to what heights will Britney continue to soar as she continues to release new material?

Britney Spears Goes on Trial for Traffic Offense

The following italicized article is from www.people.com:

After more than a year of legal bickering, Britney Spears goes on trial Wednesday in a Van Nuys, Calif., court on a charge of driving without a license.

The pop star, who faces up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine, is not required to attend because it's only a misdemeanor case.

Barring any last-minute legal moves, the trial will begin with jury selection and is expected to last several days.

Spears, 26, opted for the jury trial after rejecting a plea deal of one year's probation and a $150 fine.

"My client will never plead guilty to this charge, which should be reduced to an infraction," said her attorney Michael Flanagan, who twice turned down prosecutors' plea deals. "We'll appeal any conviction."

The charge stems from Spears's fender-bender in August 2007. A hit-and-run charge was eventually dismissed after she compensated the other driver for damages, but the driving-without-a-license charge remained.

Spears had a Louisiana license at the time of the accident, but prosecutors contend she has long made her home in California and therefore was legally required to have California license. She has since gotten one.

The Curious Case Of The Britney Spears Comeback, In Bigger Than The Sound

The following italicized article is from www.mtv.com:

On The Record: Britney Spears Cannot Be Stopped, No Matter How Hard You Try

I'm beginning to think I was wrong about this Britney Spears character. See, last month, I wrote a column that basically asked "Can Britney Ever Be Britney Again?" (Short answer: No, if only because no one can be Britney Spears again.) And while I'm still sticking by that assumption — after all, the deck is clearly stacked against her, in ways that are not at all her fault (the state of the industry, the splintering of the media, etc.) — it would appear that I was way off base about one thing: It does not appear that Britney is going anywhere anytime soon.

This is because Britney Spears is indestructible. She is made of Teflon and adamantium and cannot be stopped. Ever. She is impervious to trends or time or taste (which sort of makes her like the Highlander) and will be here long after you and I are gone.

This started to become apparent to me when I read the comments on my initial column, the majority of which came from fans who were either mildly upset ("BETTER THAN EVER!! EVERYBODY'S TALKIN' ALL THE STUFFS ABOUT BRITNEY. WHY DON'T THEY JUST LET HER LIVE?") or angered to the point of death wishes and homophobia ("This is f---ing retarded!! Britney Spears is a living legend! She will be better than ever. STFU, stupid f----t. I bet you like Christina, loser. I hope you die.").

And then, Britney kicked her comeback into full gear. First, she announced that she had a new album on the way and she'd be promoting it with the "all access" (snicker) documentary "Britney Spears: For the Record." And to top it all off, there was the debut of her uncensored "Womanizer" video, which featured her in all manners of undress and was apparently deemed "too hot for '20/20' " (John Stossel's mustache was outraged!). And suddenly, the Brit-sanity was off the charts.

It seemed possible that Spears' entire fanbase could spontaneously combust at any moment (perhaps this is the cause of the latest round of California wildfires). After all, according to their logic, Britney was back, returned from the hereafter to silence all her critics and reclaim the pop throne. She had beaten her demons and emerged stronger and sexier, and there wasn't a mean-spirited blog or jealous music critic (or an increasingly disinterested record-buying populace) who could stop her.

And with logic like that, who needs logic? It's gotten to the point where Britney fans won't even listen to suggestions that the Spears of 2008 is slightly less globe-uniting than the Spears of 2000. To them, nothing has changed. There were no upskirt shots or messy divorces, no shaved heads or stints in rehabilitation facilities. In their minds, no one has left the Britney Camp, and there is no chance her new album might underwhelm, both critically and financially. To be a die-hard Britney Spears fan in 2008 is akin to being a Republican or a Democrat: There is a defensiveness in it, an anger. There is no other alternative to consider, because the alternative is completely wrong.

And this is why Britney Spears will never leave us. Somehow, she has become vital, she has become iconic, and — most of all — she has become infallible. Just take a look at fan reactions to "Womanizer," a song that kind of sounds like what would happen if you threw Mike Jones and an air-raid siren into a blender ... and not in a good way. (I will get between 50 and 100 angry e-mails/comments about that statement, I guarantee it.) To them, the song is brilliant, a clarion call to the "haterz" out there and the best thing she's ever done. In the eyes of her fans, Britney can never do wrong, which pretty much guarantees that she'll live forever, in one form or another. And to that end, just by coming back, she's already written the next chapter in her career. She's a success, and the results — album sales, airplay for singles, tour receipts — are inconsequential.

Of course, none of that is wrong in any way. Who am I to say what people should or shouldn't like? After all, I wrote a paean to Phish last week. But Brit fans should probably realize that none of it means that Britney will ever be the kind of superstar she was for the first half of this decade. The fact remains that there are fewer record-buying individuals left on the planet — and even fewer Britney Spears fans. She will always have her loyal armies, she will always have those inexhaustible supporters, but the rest are gone for good.

Which is why, despite mounting evidence to the contrary, I still believe that my initial assessment of her comeback was correct. Britney will sell a few records out of the gate (probably debuting at #1), her singles will splash big (probably on "Gossip Girl") then inevitably fade, her tour will launch with much fanfare and some bit of trivial controversy, and then everyone will move on. This is just the way things happen these days. A comeback is a relative term ... so is a career.

And to that point, I'll freely admit to having underestimated Britney. She inspires in ways I do not understand, she survives in ways I cannot comprehend, and she endures. She has outlasted almost every one of her contemporaries, she has become a measuring stick and a cautionary tale and an icon. Will she be the next Madonna? Probably not. The next Cher? All crazy, somewhat diluted, grammatically adventurous signs point to "Yes."

Britney Comeback Tour Set for Spring!

The following italicized article is from www.ok-magazine.com:

Britney Spears' rollercoaster ride of a year continues. The 2008 comeback kid not only has a hit single and sexy new video, it's just been announced that she'll be hitting the road in the spring with her first honest-to-goodness concert tour since 2004!

According to Billboard.com, Brit will take her singing and dancing act out on tour in 2009 in support of her album, Circus, which is slated to hit records stores on her 27th birthday, Dec. 2. No dates for the tour have been announced.

Assuming all goes well and the concerts actually happen, this will mark the first time Britney has performed a full-fledged concert since her 2004 tour, which brought in a reported $34 million in ticket sales for the pop superstar.

In the summer of 2007, Brit performed a handful of one-off concerts using the fake band name The M&Ms. These shows were widely panned by fans and critics for the singer's apparent lack of enthusiasm and obvious lip-synching.

The last time Britney performed in public was at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, where a distracted and out-of-shape pop star nearly killed what was left of her then-fading career.

"Womanizer" Pushed Down To #7 On iTunes

Britney has been screwed over yet again. First it was by Billboard last year when they suddenly and unexplainably changed the chart rules - pushing Britney's "Blackout" album from the #1 spot down to #2. Then more recently, it was YouTube, who flagged Britney's video for "Womanizer," which ultimately affects exposure to Britney's online audience. Now it's iTunes...

iTunes removed "Womanizer" from their system this morning with no explanation, and did not place it back until this evening. As a result, Britney's single, which was #1 for the last 7 days, has been pushed down to #7 - leaving T.I.'s "Live Your Life" to the number one spot.

Time to send in the troups. Yet again. You know the drill:
