Attempts by Britney Spears and Kevin Federline to settle custody issues on their own terms have failed. The next stop for the former husband and wife appears to be a custody trial in August.
Britney and Kevin attempted to resolve their ongoing custody battle Thursday with the help of a mediator. Unfortunately, their efforts failed, K-Fed’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, told E! News.
“The mediation didn’t result in an agreement that would avoid the trial set in August,” Kaplan said. “The mood was comfortable, positive and it was a mood that was consistent with opening at least a great dialogue, which is necessary.”
Kaplan noted that Kevin is seeking sole physical and legal custody of Sean Preston and Jayden James, and would like Britney to continue with her current visitation of three days a week.
“If the existing arrangement was acceptable to both parties, we wouldn’t have to go to trial,” Kaplan added. “But that didn’t happen.”
Britney and Kevin’s custody trial is scheduled to begin August 25.
Before the trial, Britney and Kevin are expected to meet in court for another hearing on July 15.
