Britney Spears Set to Stand Trial in Driving Without a License Case

The following italicized article is from www.usmagazine.com:

Britney Spears' lawyer shot down a plea deal that would have placed the singer, 26, on a year's probation and forced her to pay a $150 fine in her ongoing misdemeanor driver's license case, the Associated Press reports.

Attorney J. Michael Flanagan says Spears was open to an offer that would have reduced the charge to an infraction and required her to pay a $10 fine.

Her case is now set to go before a jury on Oct. 15. Flanagan plans to appeal any conviction.

In 2007, Spears was charged with misdemeanor driving without a valid California license and hit-and-run following a fender-bender in a store parking lot.

Flanagan tells the AP that Spears is being unfairly targeted because she is a celebrity.
