Britney Spears has come a long way from the girl who spent her days and nights taking erratic car rides through Los Angeles. These days, the 26-year-old mother of two can occasionally be seen enjoying a relatively quiet lunch or dinner, but then it's back to her Studio City home, where she largely stays out of the spotlight.

Sources say the reason for Britney's dramatic turnaround is the fight for her children, which she has resumed with a vengeance.

"Britney wants her kids back," one insider reveals to OK!. "And she will do everything in her power to make that goal a reality."

On May 6, Britney, along with her dad and legal team, is prepared to go before Los Angeles County Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon and ask yet again for overnight visits with her adorable kids, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 19 months.

If she succeeds in this battle, Brit will be allowed one precious evening per week with her children for the first time since her infamous hostage standoff on Jan. 3.Appearing in court will only be the first step toward regaining even partial custody of her boys in the 50/50 agreement that Britney and her ex Kevin Federline, 30, agreed upon when they finalized their divorce last July.

The second step is a closer, more peaceful relationship with Kevin. "It would be fantastic if they could become great friends again and could get together like Bruce Willis and Demi Moore did to show their kids how much they love them," a relative of Kevin tells OK!. "I think both Brit and Kevin would be open to that eventually."

And according to Kevin's attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, Britney is well on her way to achieving both goals. "Britney's progress over the last two months is good," he tells OK! exclusively. "No surprises, nothing to be alarmed about, and that's all very positive.

Steve-O Challenges K-Fed

Britney's Manager On Way Out, Attorney Wants To Quit

In a shake-up, Britney Spears' business manager is close to being fired and her divorce attorney has asked the court for permission to drop her as a client.

Howard Grossman, the business manager, tells PEOPLE he is aware he was the subject of a closed-door hearing Thursday but he has no idea why a temporary conservator's motion to give Spears's father the right to fire him was granted.

Court papers show that Grossman was served Thursday with orders to surrender "all documents, records and assets relating to Britney Spears."

"The only thing I will say is my reputation speaks for itself," Grossman says. "I couldn't tell you why they chose this path."

Also, divorce lawyer Sorrell Trope tells PEOPLE he filed papers Friday asking permission to be released as Spears's attorney in her custody battle with Kevin Federline.

A hearing will be held on the matter on March 10. The high-profile divorce attorney had filed similar papers several weeks ago, but retracted them.

"We filed paper asking to be relieved, and hopefully they will find someone to replace us," Trope tells PEOPLE. "I'm not at liberty to say more at this time."

Lawyer Showdown In Britney Case

Sources tell TMZ Britney's divorce lawyers and the lawyers representing the conservatorship may collide in a "last one standing" dispute.

We know Britney's divorce team at the law firm of Trope and Trope has been dealing with newly-exiled Sam Lutfi and believes he is well-meaning. Jamie Spears, the freshly appointed co-conservator, has made it clear he dislikes the Trope firm and wants them out of Britney's life -- in large part because of the firm's alliance with Sam.

Lutfi is furious at the commissioner who issued the various orders today and has been in touch with Trope and Trope numerous times this afternoon. Based on those conversations, the firm believes the orders defy Britney's wishes because she feels great ill will toward her dad.

So here's the scenario: It's possible Trope and Trope could go to court Monday at 1:30 PM PT and challenge the choice of conservator. If Jamie Spears is in it for the long haul, it's also possible one of his first orders of business will be to 86 Trope and Trope from Britney's life.

For more than a year, the pop star's career comeback has been completely overshadowed by her personal problems — divorce, custody battles, public breakdowns, rehab and hospital visits — but those who have watched the singer rehearse for her latest video tell OK! that she's working harder than ever.

"She's incredibly focused now," explains Robert Baker, owner of Millennium Dance Studios, where Brit has been refining her dance moves for the upcoming video shoot for her song "Hot as Ice." Baker has been in the studio with the 26-year-old mother of two during her rehearsals and says that the woman he's seen kicking up her heels is a "whole new Britney."

The dance routine for "Hot as Ice" will be one of Britney's famous chair numbers — the kind she made famous in her video for her hit "Stronger." And it's rumored that the now-infamous "nip-slip" caught on camera during her rehearsal Sunday night might actually play a part in the "Hot as Ice" video — though it's unclear how much skin Brit intends on showing.

Of course, Sunday night's dance rehearsal wasn't Britney's only sexy stopover of the evening. Before heading to rehearsal the singer and pal Sam Lutfi had stopped by the Hustler Store on L.A.'s Sunset Strip, where unlike past visits when Brit picked up revealing clothes, she left with only a necklace — and a sandwich.

Following the rehearsal, Brit and Sam joined her cousin Alli Sims and a friend for a late-night showing of 27 Dresses. Eyewitnesses who spotted Britney leaving the theater tell OK! that the singer was teary-eyed as she left the theater.

VEJA Magazine: How's the relationship between Britney and the paps?

FT: Usually, 30 paps follow her. Some are trustworthy some aren't, and I am one of the trustworthy ones. Sometimes at night she just appears just she can be photographed, so she can help us out. Sometimes we show her the pics, and she deletes the ones she doesn't want.

VEJA Magazine: How is her house?

FT: It is huge. Britney takes care of it all by herself. She doesn't have housekeepers. Everything is elegant and very organized. I did not see any clothes laying around on the floor. She has a lot of pics of her kids around the house, but doesn't talk about them a lot. When we ask her about them, she gets sad.

VEJA Magazine: Do you think she is normal?

FT: Yes! She doesn't go out to drink, it has been proved that she doesn't do drugs, doesn't drive under the influence. The reason people say she is crazy is because she goes to the supermarket wearing pajamas or eats an hamburger in public. Things that every American does.

VEJA Magazine: But she shaved her head, hit a car with an umbrella...

FT: She had a lot of problems, she had just divorced, was afraid to lose her kids. She just exploded.

VEJA Magazine: Do you know her new bf Adnan Ghalib?

FT: Everybody knows why he is with her. He just wants exclusive pictures of her.

JC: I..I haven’t…I haven’t had any contact with her over, I would say, over the last couple of months. I saw her before that and ,you know, her life has seemed always, at least lately, as of late to be, a hurricane. But I haven’t spoke to her recently. Um, ya know, I just think she’s got a lot on her plate.

DJ: You know, I think it would be tough because you guys had contact so many times from Mickey Mouse Club to throughout the years with N’Sync and everything. It’s gotta be tough when you turn on the news and say “Aw man, thats the girl I came up with!” Ya know?

JC:Well, heres the …. There are two perspectives on that in my opinion, ya know?. Believe it or not, a lot of this stuff happens everyday to everyday people. Its just that because its on the picture, ya know, her pictures on the cover of a magazine, ya know, its actually amplified. But, ya know, but as far as like the things that are going on in her life, ya know..a divorce! I think theres something like a 50-60% divorce rate.

DJ: Now thats valid! I agree with that but…

*JC cuts him off*

JC: Thats everyday, OK? Now when you’re dealing with like the two kids involved, theres always disputes over, ya know, custodies and things like that.So thats an everyday kinda thing.Now ,ya know, now you’re dealing with a twenty-year old, ya know, a twenty-something year old whose going out and partying. I mean, its hard for me to find people in their twenties who aren’t going out and partying. So I mean, she’s, the fact is that, ya know, its just that people are focusing on the negative things that she’s doing right now because it sells more papers and things like that.

Now, I don’t necessarily agree with everything that she does, obviously, but I don’t necessarily really think that some of things that she’s doing are abnormal that…that they are saying are abnormal.

Now some of the stuff, I absolutely don’t agree with.Some of the stuff tho, I think is blown way out of proportion and taken out of context.

DJ: But I think in our society we live with the nature of the beast that because of the mediums that we have that you can get stuff so fast and everything.

JC: Absolutely. And everybodys so quick to end up…..the weird part is that everybodys so quick to judge.I mean, I will be honest, ya know.There are chicks that are going, who are out at a bar, and having a conversation going:“I can’t believe she’s going out and getting so wrecked with her two kids at home and blah blah blah”.Meanwhile, they’re at a bar getting trashed. You know what I mean? Like, .. uh again, because its… because its instead of,ya know, instead of its their next door neighbor doing it, its her doing it. So it becomes something to pass judgment on and things like that.

GHALIB'S WIFE: 'I WON'T LET SPEARS MARRY MY HUSBAND'

The estranged wife of BRITNEY SPEARS' paparazzo boyfriend ADNAN GHALIB is adamant he will not wed the troubled star - because she forbids it.

American model and beautician AzLynn Berry has been hiding in her parents' Los Angeles home since her photographer husband began romancing the Toxic hitmaker after meeting in December (07).

But the 28-year-old has vowed to initiate a difficult divorce battle if Ghalib wants to end their marriage.

She told U.S. entertainment news show Access Hollywood, "The only way he'll marry her is over my dead body. "We were living together as man and wife when he started romancing Britney. I believed he was purely working and he was trying to win her confidence for a photoshoot." Berry, who is still legally married to Ghalib, threw the photographer out of their marital home when she found out about his infidelity.

She adds, "It's been reported that ours was a marriage of convenience to help him get his green card but that's simply not true. He's broken my heart and I haven't stopped crying for two weeks. "But he's living on the same fantasy planet as her if they think they'll be walking down the aisle any time soon."
