Britney Spears Gets BMW at Her Sober B-Day Soiree

The following italicized article is from www.eonline.com:

Sounds like Britney Spears had herself a very happy birthday indeed!

The singer, who turned 28 yesterday, received a shiny new white BMW convertible with a ribbon on it and balloons inside during a party at her Calabasas home.

Birthday girl Brit was in good spirits, a source tell E! News. She was dressed sexily, in a blue velvet blazer, shorts and fishnet stockings.

She had a cake presented to her around 10 p.m., but there was no champagne toast, since no alcohol was served at the soiree, the insider tells us.

"It was really mellow," says the source.

So who was on hand to help her celebrate?

BF Jason Trawick (who went shopping with her earlier), dad Jamie, her two boys, manager Larry Rudolph, as well as some backup dancers and friends.

If you didn't get an invite, don't feel bad. Less than 20 people attended.

No word on where her mom and sister were.

Britney Spears Earns Grammy Nomination for Best Dance Recording with 'Womanizer'

Britney Spears has scored a Grammy nomination for her No. 1 hit single "Womanizer" in the Best Dance Recording category. Spears previously earned a Grammy win in the same category with her mesmerizing hit "Toxic" in 2004.

"Womanizer" was the lead single from her sixth studio album Circus and climbed to the coveted No. 1 position on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart. The song rocketed to No. 1 in over 10 countries outside of the U.S. In addition to setting new records with the song last December, the global icon earned critical-accolades: Rolling Stone praised "Womanizer" as an "electro-glam stomp" and went on to describe the song as "head-boppingly hypnotic." Overall, The New York Times praised Circus, noting that "most of her new songs are crisp, cunning dance pop..." Upon the release of the album, Spears became the first female ever to have five No. 1 album debuts, and both the single and album resonated with her fans as evident by the sales. "Womanizer" sold close to 3.5 million combined digital/mobile units domestically while the album has sold 3.4 million units worldwide to date.

Spears, who has just wrapped up her international tour, recently set another record when she became the first artist in over three years to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with her new song, "3." The catchy song is from Britney Spears' new album The Singles Collection which hit stores last month. "3" has already sold over one million tracks and is presently the No. 2 pop song in the country (Source: Mediabase) and ranks No. 10 (with a bullet) on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart.

Buzz: Britney Spears 'Very Happy' – But Not Engaged

The following italicized article is from www.people.com:

Not all the bad news out of Australia about Britney Spears is true.

Although she was in fact embroiled in a lip-syncing controversy, reports that her agent-boyfriend Jason Trawick abruptly left the country after rejecting her wedding proposal are "100 percent absolutely false," says a source close to the couple. "There was no proposal and they were never engaged."

The couple of more than six months had spent time together across Australia with her two boys, Preston and Jayden, while Spears performed on stops of her Circus tour. When Trawick headed back to L.A. instead of spending the holidays it was simply a matter of logistics. "Jason spent more time in Australia than originally planned," says the source. "They are very happy."

Britney Spears' Shopping Trip in Melbourne Hit on Twitter

The following italicized article is from www.news.com.au:

FANS of Twitter hijacked a shopping expedition by pop star Britney Spears in Melbourne yesterday.

Spears, who performed her final Melbourne concert at Rod Laver Arena last night, went on a shopping spree at Myer in Bourke St.

The entertainer spent $4618.45 in the spree that lasted just over 45 minutes.

Spears bought pieces from the Jack and Milly childrens wear range for her sons Jayden James and Sean Preston.

For herself she selected a coat from the Penny Black label, a cardigan from the Armani Jeans range, several items of clothing from the Cacharel and DKNY ranges, and a party frock by popular Australian designer Camilla and Marc.

Spears private shopping expedition became a huge spectator event with people posting word of her planned shopping trip on their Twitter pages.

Word quickly spread and about 300 fans waited at Myers Little Bourke St entrance to get a glimpse of the star.

In preparation for her visit, Myer curtained off an area on level one of its store and organized a selection of items for her to check out in private.

Two of Spears burly security guards lingered around Myers cosmetic department, near where her signature fragrance was on display, from midday.

The performer, dressed in black, carrying a large red handbag, and wearing large dark sunglasses with her hair tied in a messy bun, arrived at Myer around 4.30pm and moved through the store surrounded by an entourage of about eight people.

She gave Myer the thumbs up as she left, saying she had bought lots of "good stuff.

Britney Spears Channeled 'Classy' Madonna In 'Radar' Video

The following italicized article is from www.mtv.com:

Britney Spears has been compared to Madonna since she leapt onto the pop scene, dancing around in a schoolgirl uniform. The two did eventually hook up for "Me Against the Music," but Britney's video for "Radar," from her Circus album, really paid tribute to the pop queen and her ultra-glamorous Bedtime Stories period.

In the video, Britney is stuck in a love triangle with two very sexy polo players, who spend a good part of their time trying to woo Spears or riding their horses. Spears hooked up with "Boys" director Dave Meyers for an ode to Madonna's "Take a Bow."

"That was the premise behind 'Radar.' [We were] looking for a way to take her into a contemporary, classy environment," Meyers explained. "I felt empowered by referencing Madonna's video. Britney hasn't done anything like that."

Meyers had a very clear idea of how he wanted the story line to work. "There is a narrative going on, a romantic triangle on a weekend at this polo mansion," he said. "A soap-opera romance."

Britney apparently got nervous around the guy playing her lover (not her official boyfriend) in the clip, but Meyers said that shyness captured the essence of Britney. "She was really shy with this guy. She's really pretty here too," he said. "I think it's the Britney a lot of us know and love. It was nice to bring that out in her."

Despite the song's midtempo dance groove, the video is noticeably choreography-free. "I don't miss the dancing," he said. "When I watch, I feel like all the cuts and the dissolves keep the pace of the song alive."

Britney Spears' 'Womanizer' Clip Proved She Still Had It

The following italicized article is from www.mtv.com:

By the time 2008 rolled around, Britney Spears had once again taken her rightful place as the pre-eminent princess of pop. There was no question about it: Britney was back and "Womanizer" confirmed it. After all, what better way to show everyone you're back than to appear naked in a sauna?

"It was an actual sauna and we built a big tent around it ... and Britney, naked again. I guess I have one of the best jobs in the world," Joseph Kahn, who also shot Britney in the nude for her "Toxic" clip, told MTV News. "I was like, 'You know, if we do this video, and she went through all this work to get a new paint job, I was gonna show off the paint job — she's gonna be naked in this video.' "

The idea, however, like so many videos before, was all Britney's suggestion. "She pitched to me a very detailed idea of what she wanted to do," Kahn explained. "She wanted to dress up in costume, she wanted to follow her man to work, and she eventually wanted to show at the end that she is all three of those women."

He went on to say that this video was the one where he and Britney would prove that she was still at the top of her game. "It was, like, her first video that no one really knew if she could even come on set, you know? It was just a big question as to you know, like, what would that video look like?" he said. "What shape would she be in? Can she really dance? Can she perform? Who is she at this point?

" 'Womanizer,' for me, was a great experience on a personal level, because it completely verified that she was coming back," he continued. "By the time I worked with her on 'Womanizer,' you know, that was the Britney that I knew and it was a fun experience for me."

Kahn had to basically turn the video around overnight, and it was worth all the hard work — the video quickly became a fan favorite. "By the time it got out — and the beautiful thing about the Internet is that you get instant reaction — the reaction seemed to be very positive. I'm going to sound like such a wuss, but I think I cried," he said. "That sounds super lame, but come on, man — that's five days of some serious stress. And I had to end the video on her smiling, for sure. Like, we just need to tell everybody that she's OK."

Britney Spears Took Aim At The Media In 'Piece Of Me' Video

The following italicized article is from www.mtv.com:

Britney Spears might not have been at her personal peak when she released Blackout in 2007, but she also wasn't afraid to show the world that she was in on the joke.

On her single "Piece of Me," Britney sings about how every move she makes is reported by the media. And what better place to film a video for the song than in a nightclub with reporters and paparazzi trying to capture Brit's every move?

"On 'Piece of Me,' I really just wanted to put the mirror back onto the whole experience," director Wayne Isham told MTV News about the video's concept, which finds Britney flirting with boys and dancing around the club. "You can see that she had that kind of confidence. And, literally, every take became a more and more confident take, so that she could have fun with what was going on. Not being over-the-top sarcastic, but ... having a laugh at everything that was going on around her, with confidence."

At the time, Britney had become a tabloid staple. And, even when she was trying to get her career back on track, it seems the paparazzi were there to mess with any comeback plans. "She was late," Isham recalled. "People made a big thing about it, [but] how could she not be late, when you have 50, 65, 75 people running down the street chasing her car? That was a long day for the crew. It was literally a 20-hour day for the crew. She was there for the last six hours of it. She got there late, showed up and just kicked ass."

Isham encouraged the pop star to get loose for the video and (literally) let her hair down.
"The very last dance of the piece, she had her hair up, and I go, 'Can you just do one for me with your hair down?' She dropped her hair down," Isham recalled. "You'll see we intercut with her hair up and her hair down. That was the last piece. She just rocked it from her heart. She choreographed that last dance at the very end. She did that on her own and said, 'Let's go for it.'"

The video, which earned the singer three VMAs in 2008, would prove that no matter what was happening in her life, she could bring it. "When she goes for it, she goes for it," Isham said. "You know, it's about the story line, it's about her dance, it's about her appearance," he said. "I just love that she's one of the few that are still left that step up to what music videos are about."

Britney Spears: 'The Singles Collection'

The following italicized article is from www.digitalspy.co.uk:

Rating: 5/5 stars

When Britney released '...Baby One More Time' at the tail-end of the last century, few would have predicted that she'd still be around today. Sure, it quickly became obvious that the track - reportedly rejected by TLC - was one of the great pop singles, but the history books are littered with the remains of stars that instantly light up the charts only to burn up just as fast. Despite some filler-heavy albums, Britney has always been something else, and this compilation perfectly captures the career of one of the best singles artists of the last ten years.

Where her 2004 Best Of, My Prerogative, was let down by some needless inclusions, unsatisfying sequencing and under-written new material, the 18-track Singles Collection is as lean as the star herself after a couple of months on the road. Better still, it features the best singles from the Blackout and Circus albums, which salvaged Britney's career as a pop artist in the face of a personal breakdown. The only possible quibble is having newbie '3' tacked on the start rather than the end - ruining the otherwise chronological tracklisting - but in the grand scheme of things that matters not-a-jot.

Running from '...Baby One More Time' to 'Radar', you get a single-disc timeline that shows a progression in style and substance from school uniform-wearing pop ingénue to sultry motorik saucepot. There's an argument that the 65-minute run-time should have been extended to include a few more songs, but in the main it's the slowies that have been dropped, and that's no bad thing. Of course, there's little you can say about the songs themselves that hasn't already been said. Hits like 'Toxic' and 'Oops!... I Did It Again' proved their cultural cachet by featuring in Doctor Who and John & Edward's most magical moment respectively. Even the oft-forgotten 'Stronger' boasts two stone-cold classic pop moments: the lyrical inversion of her debut hit ("My loneliness ain't killing me no more") and that sound drop-out at two-and-a-half minutes that teases before the chorus slams back in.

Britney's voice has long been a source of contention, but while the debate about the value of a lip-synced live concert continues to rage, this compilation underlines her worth as a distinctive pop singer, at least on record. She certainly doesn't have the pipes of contemporaries Christina or Shakira, let alone the likes of Mariah or Whitney, but as last year's X Factor finalists showed, it's not as easy as it looks to make these songs sound as good as they do here.

And there's nothing that sounds out of place. The thematic muddle of wedging a coming-of-age ballad ('I'm Not A Girl...') between two slabs of sexed-up hip-pop ('Slave 4 U', 'Boys') looks dodgy on paper, but sounds perfect in the listening. Best of all is the double-header of 'Everytime' and 'Gimme More', where you get Brit's best ballad jammed up against a throbbing robopop thriller that's rightfully survived her infamous VMAs performance. The only arguable weak link is the Madonna-featuring 'Me Against The Music', but in this context what once looked like a respectful passing of the baton now seems like an unconditional surrender of pop Queendom to its rightful heir.
