Dallas Austin: Jive pushed Britney to do VMAs

The following italicized article is from www.untouchablebritney.net:

Speaking to MTV News music producer Dallas Austin, who partied with Britney and P. Diddy the night before the 2007 VMA's, revealed how Britney told him she was not ready to perform.

"The night before the VMAs she came in and told me and Diddy "You know what, I am not ready to do the show" and her management were basically saying "No you have to, you can't back out now". But Diddy and I told her "No, no, no if you aren't ready to do it, then don't do it." Both of us said they'll forgive you later if you deliver something great, but if you ain't ready to do it, then don't"

The music producer, who has worked with the likes of Michael Jackson and Madonna also revealed that he is a fan of Britney's latest album 'Blackout'.

"To tell you the truth this is one of my favourite albums. I'm not a Britney Spears superfan but this album is ridiculous to me. I play it over and over again. It just shows you how big of a star she is. She hasn't done one promotional thing for this album period and her record sales and gone up and people love it."

Britney Screwed Every Which Way

The following italicized article is from www.tmz.com:

Talk about screwed up -- Britney Spears is having to pay her new lawyer big bucks for challeging another lawyer's bill. Our sources tell us, Stacy Phillips, Brit's lawyer du jour, took K-Fed's deposition this past Monday. Phillips grilled Federleze like a cheeseburger, asking him about ... his lawyer's bill!

That's right, Mark Vincent Kaplan is asking for a cool half mil for repping K-Daddy these past five months and he wants Brit to pay. We're told Phillips will challenge that bill in court on Monday.

We're also told Phillips deposed MVK (last Tuesday), along with his former publicist, Michael Sands (last Wednesday) about precisely the same issue -- the reasonableness of Kaplan's fee.

We haven't been able to find out how much Britney will have to pay Phillips, but are you getting the irony?

Here's what's really ironic. When disso-queen Laura Wasser left the case, Britney had 50/50 custody. Since then, she lost custody, lost visitation and basically has squat -- and it could cost her more than a million bucks in legal fees.

Brit to Lawyers: Dang, Stop Dinging Me With Fees

The following italicized article is from www.tmz.com:

TMZ has learned Britney Spears' conservators are ballistic over the legal bills she is being asked to pay in her custody fight -- bills totaling more than a million bucks for a five-month period.

Sources tell us the conservators have filed documents with the court and will appear on Monday, challenging lawyers' fees in the case. K-Daddy's lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, has asked for around $500,000 for the five-month period from October 2007 through February 2008 and has filed papers demanding that Brit pay his bill. The court has ordered Brit to pay K-Fed's reasonable attorney's fees.

We're told Brit's last law firm, Trope and Trope, has billed her more than $600,000.

Sources say the conservators feel they're being fleeced and the bills are inflated. In particular, they're upset that multiple lawyers on Brit's side have attended various court hearings -- they say unnecessarily. The conservators will argue this is a simple custody case and bills of that magnitude are simply outrageous.

Hey guys,

Katherine and Britney Primp Together

The following italicized article is from www.pagesix.com:

Californians from Pasadena to Beverly Hills felt the burn today as Katherine Heigl, on the east side doing some home shopping, struggled to reach Britney Spears, all the way on Robertson Boulevard, with a "No, you did not!" stare.

The girls about town were unknowing twins, in matching sweatshirts from Primp. Chin up, Katherine! Keep covered, wash your hair, make sure all your clothes are opaque, and you should avoid this kind of mishap again.

Britney Forwarding Mail to the Feds

The following italicized article is from www.eonline.com:

Britney Spears' next single might end up being a cover of "Return to Sender."

A source close to the songstress tells E! News that Spears has been the recipient of a number of disturbing letters and packages, including at least one letter mentioning "how to bomb" and others containing threatening language and "weird gibberish."

The situation has become so off-putting that Spears' camp is planning to hand the unwelcome mail over to local law enforcement and the FBI, the source said.

Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Officer Ana Aguirre told E! News that no specific investigation has been launched in connection with Spears' postal drama, as yet, but that authorities "have been looking at allegations that have cropped up in the past couple of months."

An FBI spokesperson says the bureau doesn't comment on ongoing investigations.

According to the Spears insider, the offending communiqués have been sent to multiple locations associated with the "Gimme More" singer. And in addition to the previously mentioned creep-outs were a letter than mentioned Israel and the Middle East (obviously sent by someone confusing Britney Spears, Pop Star, with Britney Spears, Diplomat).

"A lot of it was disturbing stalker kind of stuff," the source said. "But to be safe her security team is turning it all over to the police and FBI."

Britney's Dad: His New Powers

The following italicized article is from www.people.com:

When his temporary co-conservatorship over his daughter Britney Spears was extended until July 31, Jamie Spears was also granted new powers, court documents from yesterday's hearing show.

In addition to a $58,800 payment to the conservatorship for attorney fees and other costs, Jamie was given weekly payments of $2,500 and the authority to tap his daughter's funds to lease a car for her security team. The pop star also cannot leave California before a scheduled April 7 hearing without permission from the court or from her father.

The document also revealed that L.A. Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz extended the temporary conservatorship out of concern that an attorney claiming to represent the pop star might again tie the case up in federal court.

On Wednesday, Jon Eardley, an attorney who claims to represent Spears – even though the court has determined her incapable of hiring her own attorney – filed new papers under seal with the federal court. On Feb. 14 Eardley had filed a civil rights challenge to the conservatorship; for almost two weeks the case was in limbo until a federal judge declined to hear it.

Jeffrey D. Wexler, Jamie's attorney, tells Goetz in court documents that he believes, based on previous filings by Eardley, that the new papers include an amended petition "to include federal claims involving witness intimidation, victim intimidation."

Wexler writes that Goetz on Wednesday still had jurisdiction to extend the conservatorship. A new federal challenge by Eardley might again freeze Goetz's ability to alter the conservatorship, but would likely not undermine any orders already in place.

Source: Britney Doing Well

A source says Britney is doing well, and Goetz could decide to dissolve the conservatorship before July 31. "Is it possible she might make significant enough progress to get her life back in three or four months? Yes, and her dad would like nothing more," says the source.

Jamie Spears is Being Paid to be Britney's Conservator

The following italicized article is from www.pagesix.com:

Jamie Spears is going to be paid $2,500 per week to act as conservator for his daughter Britney's estate, according to the minute order obtained today by PageSix.com. He is allowed to lease one vehicle, and the funds have been released to pay medical expert Dr. Judith Armstrong her $4,000 retainer.

The court order released this afternoon also states that Samuel Ingham, the probate volunteer panel attorney (who testified last month that Britney wasn't mentally competent to retain counsel) is to receive compensation of $58,000 for his services.

Additionally, the court order states that Britney's not to have any contact with her former pal Sam Lutfi.

Britney Paying Dad $2500 a Week!

The following italicized article is from www.ok-magazine.com:

As OK! reported last night, in Wednesday's unscheduled hearing before Judge Reva Goetz, the court decided to extend Jamie Spears' conservatorship over his daughter Britney Spears until at least July 31.

But what has just come to light in newly released documents is the fact that Jamie will now be receiving a stipend of $2500 a week for the duration of the conservatorship. Which means that between now and July 31, he stands to take in over $50,000 for the inenviable task of watching over his troubled daughter as she tries to get her life back together and regain custody of her two sons.

Additionally, the court has allowed Jamie to lease one vehicle, though it's not clear why he'd need one as he already owns a car.

Brit's Dad Pays Himself -- Out of Her Money!

The following italicized article is from www.tmz.com:

A court commissioner has ruled that Jamie Spears can draw $2,500 a week from Britney's accounts as conservator of her affairs. It pays to be Britney's dad!

TMZ has obtained the minute order from yesterday's conservatorship hearing. In it, the judge ruled on the money, plus gave him the right to lease a car.

The commish also ruled that Samuel Ingham, Brit's court-appointed attorney, be paid $58,800.

As we reported yesterday, the judge also extended the conservatorship until July 31. But sources tell us that Jamie wants to end the conservatorship before then if his Brit's mental state improves.

Commish Doesn't Think Brit Nuttier than Ever

The following italicized article is from www.tmz.com:

Sources tell TMZ the Britney Spears conservatorship was extended not because Brit is on a downhill spiral, but because the court commissioner wants to ensure stability, given all the craziness.

As we first reported, Jamie Spears will be in control of Brit and her personal affairs through July 31. The commissioner extended the conservatorship yesterday in a closed hearing. We've learned Brit's mental state was not a factor in extending it. The real concern is that another wacky motion might be filed to derail the conservatorship and the commissioner didn't want some outside lawyer swooping in if the conservatorship were to expire.

Sources also tell us Jamie Spears wants to end the conservatorship before July 31 if his daughter's mental state improves. The commish was impressed that things have already stabilized.

Brit Bodymen Smack Paps Down

The following italicized article is from www.tmz.com:

It was a mad scene outside of Intermix yesterday, where the paps butted heads with Britney's security team as the popwreck left the Robertson Store.

After she celebrated her daddy's extended conservatorship with a shopping spree, Brit and her new beret tried to make it to her waiting SUV -- but couldn't get to it without her bodyguard strong-arming a few photogs to clear a path. TMZ tried to ask a few questions, but due the insane camera crush, she didn't hear anything.

Britney’s Son is Having Nightmares

The following italicized article is from www.pagesix.com:

Britney Spears’ visits with her kids have been emotional for the whole family. Sean Preston has been sleeping in the same room as father Kevin Federline lately because he’s been having nightmares.

According to insiders, Preston, 2, also cried for his dad at first when Britney picked them up, but Kevin soothed him and he settled down.

“Jamie told Kevin that Britney handled the visit well. She actually did cry, but that was only because Sean cried when she took them from Kevin,” says the insider.

Britney has her own way of trying to soothe her sons. "Britney always sings to them. She loves lullabies. In fact, before the split, both Britney and Kevin sang to the boys every night."

The boys are said to be confused when it comes to their mom, which is another reason why either Jamie Spears or a psychologist is present during the visits.

“Jamie plays with them and keeps them busy. They enjoy their grandfather, so it makes the time easier,” says the source.

Part of the problem is that Britney treats her sons more like dolls than children. "She dresses them for show and tell," says the insider. "She likes to show them off, but not give them the nurturing they need. I understand she is working on this part of her motherhood with her psychiatrist."

Other sources tell us that the kids are said to be playing a "pivotal role in her progress."

"Brit has expressed interest in becoming closer to the boys. Kevin hopes she is talking from her heart."

The singer is also said to be terrified of going back into the hospital and made a deal with her family to try to make the home visits and periodic outpatient visits work. If they do, then no hospital.

Adds the insider: “It all depends on how she does each time and how the boys are when they get home after visiting her.”

Meanwhile, sources tell us that Britney could get up to three visits per week with her kids now that she has new attorney Stacy Phillips on her side. "The number one goal is for Britney to regain routine visitation with the kids progressing to a mutually agreed upon custody arrangement between Kevin and Britney and averting a custody trial," says the insider.

Britney Under Dad's Thumb Until Summer

The following italicized article is from www.eonline.com:

It's looking as if Britney Spears' summer vacation is going to be another family affair.

Jamie Spears' coconservatorship over his daughter's estimated $100 million estate has been extended until July 31, Los Angeles Superior Court spokesman Alan Parachini said Wednesday.

No other details were given, but the temporary power Britney's dad has had over her affairs was scheduled to expire on Monday, and it's well-documented that Jamie and his attorneys have been adamant about stopping efforts made on Britney's behalf to wrest control away from the conservators, including a recent move apparently orchestrated by Sam Lutfi to transfer the case to federal court.

Jamie and attorney Andrew Wallet were named coconservators of Britney's finances and Jamie was put in charge of her welfare on Feb. 1, the day after the Blackout artist was admitted to UCLA Medical Center's psych ward for evaluation, her second hospitalization that month.

Brit's Dad Stays the Boss

The following italicized article is from www.pagesix.com:

Britney Spears' dad Jamie will be in charge of her affairs through the summer.

Court Public Information Officer Allen Parachini confirms to PageSix.com that lawyers for Jamie Spears filed an unexpected ex-parte motion in the matter today today, and Commissioner Goetz extended the conservatorship through July 31, 2008.

Parachini also tells us that the original hearing on the case, scheduled for Monday March 10th, is still on the calendar and will take place. Also on the horizon for Brit: a custody hearing (on Monday as well), and a hearing on the temporary restraining order against Sam Lutfi (on March 17).

In addition to extending his conservatorship, PageSix.com has learned that America's busiest dad, Jamie, attended the deposition of Michael Sands today in connection to the custody case. Sands, a former spokesperson for Kevin Federline's lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, currently speaks for Sam Lutfi and Jon Eardley, the attorney who failed in an attempt to get all of Brit's cases moved to federal court.

Brit's Conservatorship Extended Through the Summer

The following italicized article is from www.ok-magazine.com:

On Wednesday, a court commissioner ruled to keep Jamie Spears on as conservator over the personal and business affars of his daughter, Britney Spears, through July 31.

TMZ is reporting the order is effectively a seal of approval for Poppa Spears, who has been co-conservator since Brit's latest breakdown.

Sources also say the conservators are open to ending the conservatorship earlier than July 31, if Britney's mental state sufficiently improves and stabilizes.

Under the conservatorship, Britney appears to be recovering significantly. She teaches regular dance classes to children at Millennium Dance Complex, has abandoned her wild and erratic night life and has won back visitation rights with her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.

Today's news is probably not going over well with Britney's former confidante, Sam Lutfi, who after being served with a restraining order two weeks ago by the conservators, has vowed publically to "fight to the end" to overturn the order and regain his friendship with the pop singer.

With all of the positive energy surrounding Britney right now, it's hard not to think that Sam's absence might be a good thing after all.

And, by the looks of things, the court seems to agree.
