Brit's Conservators Can Shut Down Sam
The following italicized article is from www.tmz.com:
The conservators who were appointed to manage Britney's assets have broad authority, including changing the locks to her house and keeping out anyone they want -- we're guessin' that's Sam Lutfi.
The judge granted the conservators - Jamie Spears and a lawyer as co-conservators - have the power to hire 24-hour security at her house, access her medical records and communicate with treating physicians. They also have the power to make any decisions on her behalf, and they can revoke any contracts she may have made recently - we're guessin' that includes the new Mercedes she just bought.

Father Knows Best
The following italicized article is from www.pagesix.com:
Jamie Spears won temporary conservatorship over daughter Britney today in a Los Angeles court decision. He has been granted power over her entire estate, as well as a civil restraining harrassment order against her sometime manager Sam Lutfi.
Jamie will now have control over Britney's medical treatment, her business and liquid assets, has the power to send a security guard to remove someone from her house and change the locks, can restrict and limit visitors at the hospital, and also approve and retain security guards and caretakers at the hospital.
The matter will be heard again on Monday, February 4.
California trusts and estates attorney Bill Hoehler tells PageSix.com that when an emergency conservatorship like this is granted, it would mean that the disabled person is an imminent threat to herself and/or her own financial wellbeing.

Father Wins Temporary Legal Control Over Britney Spears
The following italicized article is from www.usmagazine.com:
Jamie Spears has won temporary legal control over his daughter, a judge ruled after a brief hearing Friday.
Jamie now has the power to restrict any visitors to Britney. He is also in charge of arranging 24-hour caretakers for her, as well as security.
In addition, the judge gave Jamie the power to cut off all of the singer’s credit cards and to prosecute any restraining orders on her behalf.
He also has full control of her residence and can legally remove anyone who is staying there.
Jamie has control until another hearing set for Monday afternoon.
At the Friday hearing attended by both of Britney’s parents, Jamie’s attorneys had requested a conservatorship, which would allow him to make medical decisions on behalf of their daughter as well as control her finances.
The hearing underscores the growing tension between the Spears family and Sam Lutfi, who has acted as the primary liaison between the singer and her doctors.
In a telephone interview with Us Thursday, Lutfi blasted the Spears' parents.
“Oh boy, her family is crazy!” he said. "It’s just so sad."

Britney's Estate Under Temporary Conservatorship
The following italicized article is from www.tmz.com:
A Los Angeles court commissioner has placed Britney Spears and her estate under temporary conservatorship.
That means her financial assets and other holdings will be managed by a conservator - the judge didn't say who that conservator was, but we know Brit's parents asked that they be appointed.
The judge did not appoint a conservator to make medical decisions on behalf of Brit because the necessary paperwork was not filed.
As for the conservatorship that was filed, it is only temporary -- until Monday.

Britney's Parents Fight Back
The following italicized article is from www.eonline.com:
Sam Lutfi might be Britney's In-N-Out provider, but her parents, Lynne and Jamie, wanna be the ones making the important decisions, which presumably extend beyond, "Do you want fries with that?"
So, the two are headed to court this morning to establish conservatorship, a drastic step that would allow them to make medical and financial decisions on Britney's behalf.
Lynne's also fighting against the rumor mill, speaking exclusively to E!'s Ryan Seacrest on Friday to set the record straight on several points.
For instance, she says she wants to make it clear that Britney's wealth has nothing to do with this—despite Sam's allegation that she and Papa Spears are more concerned with "money and their own image than Britney's condition."
Lynne also tells Ryan her main focus is her daughter's well-being and that she just wants Britney to get better. She said she is doing everything she can and sees her role as mom to a child who clearly needs help.
One of Lynne's greatest concerns now, she tells Ryan, is that all the drama is going to divert attention from the real issue...Britney's health.
Seems like that issue got sidetracked a long time ago.

EXCLUSIVE: Sam Lutfi On Britney Spears: "Her Family Is Crazy"
The following italicized article is from www.usmagazine.com:
Britney Spears’ pal Sam Lutfi says the singer’s mental problems stem from her parents, Lynne and Jamie.
“Oh boy, her family is crazy!” Lutfi told Usmagazine.com in a telephone interview Thursday, the same day the singer was taken to UCLA Medical Center. “It's funny because that's what the doctors say when they meet the family. They always come back and say, ‘You know, [her problems] are inherited, right?’
“It’s just so sad. It's shared equally from both of her parents.”
He told Us the singer doesn’t “trust anything that her family says? Not a g----n thing.”
He said they have tried to stage multiple interventions and that Thursday’s move was “at least their fourth” attempt.
When the singer heard Lynne had arrived Sunday night, Lutfi said Britney asked him, ‘Is my mom really here?’ I said, ‘Yeah, she's here.’ And she's like, ‘Oh great, you know they're up to something.’
“They show up to the house like hillbillies, texting me,” Lutfi continued. “I find out that they’re outside, and they go, ‘You better let me in the gate, you ass.’ So I go, to Britney, ‘Your parents are here, let them come in and yell at you and scream at you. If anything else goes on, I'll throw you in my car and take you out of here.’ She said, ‘OK, fine, baby.’
“I let them in. Instead of going to see how Britney is, they come bouncing through the doors. They scream at me, ‘Why the f---k are you talking to Barbara Walters?’ I swear to God that's all they were saying.
“The dad pushed me in the chest and said, ‘Get the f—k out of here.’
“The dad gave up and then the mom tried to talk to her, but Lynne was like, ‘I gotta get my beauty sleep, I gotta get my nails done, I gotta do my hair.’ It was just so sick. We made the mom stay.”
Lutfi said the singer suffers from “mixed state bipolar” and has had it for “roughly five years.” (A person suffering from “mixed state bipolar” experiences symptoms of mania and depression at the same time.)
He said he has told the singer, “‘Britney, do you see why people think you are crazy? Look at your mother and look at your father.’”

Lutfi Won't Face Off With Brit's Parents In Court
The following italicized article is from www.tmz.com:
Sam Lutfi tells TMZ he's not going to show up for the court hearing today.
TMZ broke the story about Britney's parents going to court in an attempt to establish a conservatorship. They believe Lutfi is placing their daughter's health and assets at risk.
Lutfi says he is "appalled and disgusted" that the parents have gone to court, adding that "Britney is in control of her assets and her business manager is in control of her assets." Lutfi says his lawyers are discussing his legal options.
Sources say Britney's medical status right now is "gravely disabled."

Conserva-Huh???
The following italicized article is from www.x17online.com:
you're like most of us here at X17, your reaction to the news of Lynne and Jamie Spears seeking conservatorship over their daughter Britney was basically "Huh?"
Well, we've just spoken with legal analyst Royal Oakes about just what conservatorship might mean for the pop princess -
Oakes explained that basically, conservatorship suits involve a party - usually the parents - suing for the legal power to take responsibility for someone else's medical care and financial holdings.
Conservatorship, however, can only be invoked when the individual in question is proven to be a danger to themselves or others.
In Britney's case, Oakes opined that her recent behavior behind the wheel would probably be cited as the principle evidence of Britney being a danger to herself.
By way of example, Oakes brought up a similar suit brought against former Beach Boy Brian Wilson by his brother Carl in the early 1990s after allegations were raised that Brian's controversial therapist Eugene Landy had tricked the singer into making him the main beneficiary of his will.
Oakes was also quick to point out that Britney does have the legal right to fight the order, although he made sure to point out that she'd need to present "medical evidence" to do so.
Apparently, it's pretty common for people to fight conservatorship suits, although Mr. Oakes presented the possibility that Britney might instead take her parents' actions as an opportunity to earnestly seek treatment.
Two people who won't be able to fight the suit, however, are Sam Lufti and Adnan Ghalib!
Mr. Oakes made it explicit that, in cases of conservatorship, "friend" figures like Sam and Adnan have no legal recourse. He did, however, point out that Sam and Adnan could be called as witnesses, where they'd be able to offer evidence supporting the claims of Britney being capable of looking after her own affairs.
So have we seen the last of Adnan and/or Sam? Guess that's up to the courts to decide - we'll keep you posted on what they say!

Britney's Parents Want Sam Out Of her Life!
The following italicized article is from www.pagesix.com:
Jamie and Lynne Spears are determined to keep Sam Lutfi away from their daughter Britney, and going to court today to gain conservatorship over their ailing child is just the first step in their plan.
A source close to the Spears family tells PageSix.com exclusively that the pop star's parents are even changing the locks on her Beverly Hills home, where Sam has been staying. "They want him out of her life completely," the insider says.
Jamie and Lynne's move in court today comes as sources tell PageSix.com that Sam has been trying to get Britney out of UCLA Medical Center, where she was admitted on a 72-hour psychiatric hold on Wednesday. An insider says that Sam "was seeking legal advice with a view to being given Britney's power of attorney, which would give him control over every aspect of Britney's life."
It appears, however, that her parents have beaten him to the punch. Applying for conservatorship is typically done on behalf of someone with severe mental problems. If they are successful, Jamie and Lynne will control Britney's medical care as well as her financial affairs.
There is no love lost between the Spears and Sam, who told Ryan Seacrest today that Jamie and Lynne "are incapable of telling the truth and incapable of sympathizing and are more concerned with money and their own image than they are about Britney's condition."
But an insider tells PageSix.com that the Spears family feels that if Sam really cared about Britney's wellbeing, he would step aside and let doctors take care of her, rather than be trying to get her out of the hospital.

Spears Family vs. Lutfi
The following italicized article is from www.hollyscoop.com:
This Spears vs. Lutfi drama keeps getting nastier and nastier. Britney's parents are going to court to gain control over their daughter’s health and financial assets.
The Spears family is concerned over Sam Lutfi's influence over their daughter. They want the court to create a conservatorship, which would allow both Jamie and Lynne to make medical decisions on behalf of Britney.
The conservatorship would also give them power over her financial affairs but they are planning on hiring a third party financial consultant, to avoid media speculation that they are interested in spending Britney's money.
They should be at court around 11:15AM so stay tuned for more details!

Spears Family In A 'Tug Of War' With Sam Lutfi
The following italicized article is from www.people.com:
While Britney Spears sits in a darkened room at the UCLA Medical Center undergoing a psychiatric evaluation, those closest to her are caught in a public power struggle over who decides what is best for the troubled popstar.
"There was a lot of arguing going on between her family and Sam Lutfi," says a Spears family friend. "There's a major tug of war going on."
Despite putting on a united front during the custody standoff on Jan. 3 that resulted in her first 72-hour emergency hold (known as the 5150), the relationship between Spears's family and her close pal Lutfi reached its breaking point at the hospital on Wednesday night. While Lutfi has been the primary liaison between Spears and her doctors, her family – which includes mom Lynne, dad Jamie, and brother Bryan – are currently lobbying to assume that role.
Lutfi hasn't taken their attempts lightly telling PEOPLE, "They came into the house with an agenda and are trying to look like the heroes after all the dirty work has been done." Adding "their main worry is being financially cut off." Counters a source close to Lynne, "she does not make money off those children. The media have made Lynne look like a money-grabber, and she isn't."
Sources confirm Lynne's Kentwood mansion Serenity is still paid for by her elder daughter.
Until now, a Kevin Federline source says Lynne has put up with Lutfi's hold over her daughter's life because she's "working under the motto, 'keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.'" The source also says Lutfi has been "telling Britney that Adnan [Ghalib] and her mother have been conspiring to do this so he looks like a savior. It's really sick and crazy."
Danish businessman Claus Hjelmbak, who was with Spears on Jan. 17 during a late-night shopping spree at Kitson, defends his friend saying Lutfi, "has been instrumental in getting her the help she needed."

Britney Being Evaluated Today - Will She Stay Or Will She Go?
The following italicized article is from www.x17online.com:
An X17online source and former patient of the UCLA Medical Center tells us that as part of her treatment, Britney will be visited by four to five doctors today to conduct an evaluation of her mental state.
According to the source, Britney cannot be held against her will for more than 72 hours if she is deemed stable, which will be determined today. Apparently, only half of the patients in the psych ward are held involuntarily.
The results will be reported to the family, as well as the state. A Los Angeles County Officer is the only one who can determine whether or not Britney is ill enough to be held against her will, although her therapist can argue for a suspension of her driver's license.
Should Britney choose to stay and seek treatment on her own accord, she can expect to be enrolled in a four week recovery program, which consists of meetings and group therapy aimed at teaching her about her disease and how to control it.

Alli Denied?
The following italicized article is from www.x17online.com:
With Britney spears currently confined to the UCLA Medical Center, it's certainly a relief to know that her friends are still looking out for her - like Alli Sims!
We caught Britney's former assistant stopping by UCLA yesterday for a quick visit.
She returned later to drop off some personal items to make the pop princess' stay a little more comfortable - shampoo, clothes, that sort of thing.
Unfortunately, she wasn't able to stay long - she left almost immediately with a sad look on her face.
Alli appeared to be exhausted by the ordeal, politely declining to answer questions about Britney's status.
Thankfully, earlier in the day she loosened her lips long enough to confirm that Brit's doing all right - that's certainly good to hear!

Brit Refuses All Visitors Except Sam
The following italicized article is from www.x17online.com:
Brit's pal Sam paid a visit to the troubled pop star yesterday around 4pm. We're told that Brit's refused to see any family members; the only one she's allowed in her room so far is Sam.
As Sam visited with Brit, Jamie and Lynne Spears waited in the waiting room with Brit's cousin Alli, who left the Medical Center around 4:15 (video coming soon).
Sam made a fast food run around 8:15 (as we reported yesterday, patients are allowed to consume outside food), returning about 20 minutes later.
Despite reports that Sam is at odds with Brit's parents, a fact that may be exacerbated by the fact that she seems to only want to see him, Sam denied any fighting between him and Brit's parents took place, and even admitted to having contact with Adnan the day before.
Photogs spotted Alli returning at about 9pm with some shampoo, but she left almost immediately with a sad look on her face.
We're also hearing that Brit's refusing medication, which, considering at this point they may consist mostly of sleeping pills, may not be such a bad thing!

Brit's Parents Make Their Move In Court

TMZ has learned Britney Spears' parents are going to court - the courtroom that establishes conservatorships for people with severe mental problems.
Jamie and Lynne Spears are going to the County courthouse in downtown L.A. Sources say both parents are extremely concerned about the welfare of their daughter and upset because Sam Lutfi is trying to call the shots on all matters Britney.
The court has the power to create a conservatorship, which would allow both Jamie and Lynne to make medical decisions on behalf of Britney. The conservatorship would also allow them to control Britney's financial affairs. Both parents have made it clear - they believe Lutfi and Adnan Ghalib are squandering Brit's assets.
We're in court, so stay tuned. The hearing is scheduled to begin at around 11:15 AM.

Britney Spears Requests In-N-Out Burger At Hospital
The following italicized article is from www.usmagazine.com:
Britney Spears' parents, Lynne and Jamie, spent the entire day with their daughter following an early morning intervention Thursday.
They arrived at UCLA Medical Center around 11 a.m. and left in separate vehicles around 8:35 p.m. shortly before visiting hours ended at 9 p.m.
The pop star got another visit that day: her pal Sam Lutfi.
He showed up around 4:10 p.m.
He briefly left at 7:42 p.m.
Though a source close to Lynne tells Us that Lutfi "had no contact with Britney," Lutfi told Usmagazine as he left the hospital, "Britney is doing good. She is fine. She is awake."
Lutfi returned around 8:03 p.m. with a "Double-Double" combo (a double cheeseburger, fries and a drink) from In-N-Out Burger, which he said the singer had requested.
He left at 8:14 p.m. When asked by Us if he was worried about Spears, he replied, "I think we all are."

Britney Treated By 'Caring, Concerned' Therapist
The following italicized article is from www.people.com:
The psychiatrist who hospitalized Britney Spears is a highly respected therapist known for her compassion, a former colleague tells PEOPLE.
"She's an excellent clinician and an excellent psychiatrist," says Harold Young, the clinical director at the Maple Counseling Center in Beverly Hills, where Spears's psychiatrist Dr. Deborah Nadel worked for about five years.
Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Nadel graduated from University of California Medical School in San Francisco 18 years ago, and she did her residency at UCLA, records show.
Nadel, who has recently started treating the troubled pop star, had instigated Spears's second hospitalization in January, this time at UCLA Medical Center's psychiatric ward, for a 72-hour evaluation, sources tell PEOPLE.
Spears chose Nadel from a list of doctors recommended by her lawyers, a source says.
Young, who worked with Nadel about 12 years ago at the center – a non-profit agency that provides low-cost counseling to people in need – said Nadel is now on the staff at UCLA and is "well thought of in the therapeutic community."
"I think [Britney] is in somebody's hands who will be caring, concerned, compassionate and respectful," says Young.

Britney’s Gun-Toting Guards
The following italicized article is from www.pagesix.com:
Britney Spears and loaded weapons are the last two things you’d want to be combined right now but luckily the pop stars proximity to half a dozen pistols is not as scary as it sounds because the firearms are being toted by the security team guarding her seventh floor hospital room in UCLA’s psychiatric unit.
Britney, who spent the majority of her first day in isolation at UCLA's psychiatric unit, entered the facility yesterday under orders from her psychiatrist Dr. Deborah Nadel. The "Toxic" hit-maker was being assessed by the medical team to try and ascertain which drugs she has been taking and what medications she requires to stabilize her bi-polar disorder.
"The first day is always tough but the medical staff will have to fully assess her condition but she is in a good unit, an insider revealed. "Her room will be comfortable but basic. There may be no television, telephone or radio, so that she can rest. But she will be being monitored at all times.”
However one thing that employees can’t remove from Britney’s room is her family. Both Lynne and Jamie Spears were seen leaving the hospital shortly after 10 am yesterday but the insider says, “although nothing is done to stop family members from visiting this is usually not recommended at this stage in case of any undue stress."
Staff at the psych unit have been told to be 'very wary' of any intrusions. After the initial 72 hours of assessment and treatments doctors will decide what further treatments she will require.

Britney Spears -- In-N-Out Already?!
The following italicized article is from www.tmz.com:
Being locked up in the psych ward won't keep Britney from getting her fast food fix! Her manservant, Sam Lutfi, dropped by with some In-N-Out for the popwreck.
On the long walk to and from his car at UCLA Medical Center, Sam was bombarded with questions by TMZ. He said Britney is doing "good" and that he doesn't speak to Lynne Spears at all -- and denies that he argued with Brit's father, Jamie.
As TMZ first reported, an all-out war over Britney erupted early Thursday morning when she was committed -- with Sam reportedly fighting with Brit's family over who would control her treatment. As of now, her parents are in the driver's seat.

Is Britney's Behavior Hurting Her Kids?
The following italicized article is from www.ok-magazine.com:
With their mother under guarded medical care for the second time in a month, OK! spoke to psychotherapist Dr. Robi Ludwig to get a better idea on the possible long-term effects Britney Spears' recent erratic behavior could have on her two young boys, Sean Preston, 2, and one-year-old Jayden James.
"When you have a mother who is mentally ill who is acting out and not taking care of herself," begins Dr. Ludwig, who has not treated Britney, "the child senses it and senses a lack of safety."
In the weeks leading up to Brit's latest visit to the hospital, the pop star had been exhibiting trademark signs of being caught up in a manic state, including staying awake for extended periods of time — some sources say as long as four straight days — leading her to seemingly unexplainable behavior like abandoning her car in the middle of the road and speaking in a British accent.
Dr. Ludwig tells OK! that such upsetting activity could actually end up having a negative impace on the "eating and sleeping patterns and emotional stability" of her two children. What both Jayden and Sean need, says Dr. Ludwig, is consistency — something they're currently only getting from dad Kevin Federline. "There needs to be stable family around as much as possible to make up for the instability of Britney."

Lutfi Speaks Out About Britney Spears' Condition
The following italicized article is from www.thecelebritytruth.com:
Britney Spears manager and friend, Sam Lutfi, has spoken out about Spears' hospitalization in the early hours of Thursday morning, saying that the popstar is "not a happy camper" but is doing well.
The 26-year-old was taken to UCLA medical center on the advisement of her psychiatrist, who she has been seeing daily – under the condition of a court ruling – in order to have her visitation rights with her two sons restored.
Various internet reports state that Spears attempted suicide on Thursday, however, according to authorities, the call that was made to them did not mention a suicide attempt.
Spears is currently on a 5150 hold for 72 hours – which is a code used to describe patients who pose a threat to herself and others – with Lutfi telling Entertainment Tonight that, "She's doing fine right now. Britney is fine, she's calm, not a happy camper, but I'm hoping she gets the treatment necessary. I love and support her all the way."

Will Britney's Hospitalization Help This Time?
The following italicized article is from www.people.com:
Britney Spears's latest hospitalization could finally give her the help she needs – if she's more willing to accept treatment this time around, experts tell PEOPLE.
Unlike her dramatic Jan. 3 hospitalization – in which a wild-eyed Spears was captured on camera being hauled away – her current hospital stay had been planned in advance, sources say, and did not involve her children.
What's more, sources say Spears was more receptive to treatment this time, which experts call a promising sign.
Other key differences between then and now:
Her Psychiatrist Gave the Order
Once again, Spears was committed using California's 5150 emergency hold, but this time, a source says, it was her psychiatrist – Santa Monica-based Dr. Deborah Nadel, who is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology – not police, who issued the order.
"This means it might be a more favorable outcome," says Dr. Diana Kirschner, a New York City psychologist who has not treated Spears. With mental illness such as bipolar disorder – which two sources tell PEOPLE Spears has been diagnosed with – patients "have to make a connection [with a mental health professional] to move forward," says Kirschner. "There is a way you can bond with a client even though you are slapping them with something like [the 5150]."
Although pal Sam Lutfi told PEOPLE that Spears entered the hospital "willingly," Dr. Mark Goulston, a Santa Monica psychiatrist, points out that the 5150 is by necessity "an involuntary hold. ... It may be that she went in willingly, [but] her mental state was seen to be so volatile that whomever evaluated her didn't trust it would change."
Her Severe Lack of Sleep
Sleeplessness – friends say Spears hadn't slept since Saturday – "is a cardinal symptom of bipolar disorder," says Dr. Goulston, who has not treated Spears. "Not sleeping for three days could interfere with all of us functioning at a reasonable level. In someone who has bipolar disorder, sleep deprivation can trigger a full-blown episode. One of the things they will want to do in the hospital is get her to sleep. The question is: When she wakes up, will she be sane enough to leave, and then not accept treatment? That will be the challenge."
Possibility of Longer Hospitalization
Although the 5150 typically involves a 72-hour hospitalization for treatment and evaluation, when she was last hospitalized Spears left Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after just two nights. Currently, "[Nadel] has the power to decide whether Spears can be released in that time frame or not," says a veteran L.A. psychiatric social worker. "However, [Nadel] is only one opinion. Within the three-day hold, patients-rights workers from the L.A. County Department of Mental Health will interview Spears and review her charts to determine whether the hold is legally justified." After 72 hours, "[Nadel] can request a 14-additional-day hold called a 5250."
Medication
Although Spears is more likely to comply with medical orders in a hospital setting, forcing her to take medication can still be challenging. "If she refuses to take meds that a doctor determines she needs, [Nadel] can request a court to grant that power – but that's a lengthy process that won't happen in just 72 hours," says the social worker. "I've seen patients housed for 40 days with not a single pill given."
Family Involvement
Although her dad Jamie visited Britney in the hospital during her Jan. 3 hospitalization, her mom Lynne remained in Kentwood. This time, Lynne has been present throughout the crisis. Still, "during a 5150 hold, a patient's family has no power unless the patient is a minor," says the social worker. "This is because, in part, family involvement could create further conflict. Even visitation can't be granted to family unless the patient asks for it in writing."
Says Dr. Kirschner: "The fact that the person's family is around them is generally favorable." Given the fact that she was hospitalized a second time under a 5150, "she was probably increasingly worrying people who were worried for her well-being," says Dr. Goulston. "If she's driving and she's actively bipolar she is a danger to herself. The question is: How many of these will it take to stick and for Britney to be willing to get help?"

Paparazzo Quits In Protest At Britney 'Hounding'
The following italicized article is from www.guardian.co.uk:
When paparazzi have a crisis of conscience over the wellbeing of their celebrity prey, events have clearly reached a serious level. So it is with Britney Spears, the troubled pop star and America's favourite tabloid fodder, who was back under psychiatric evaluation in a Los Angeles hospital last night after the latest in a series of highly publicised meltdowns.
As the singer's family and manager bickered over the right to direct her treatment after a court-ordered commitment into mental health care, a British photographer who has quit the chasing media pack warned the hounding could kill her.
Nick Stern has resigned from Splash, a Los Angeles-based, British-owned celebrity picture agency, in protest at the "aggressive" tactics employed in pursuing Spears, and predicted tragedy.
"Directly or indirectly, Britney is going to come to some horrific end, or a member of the public will," he said. "It's not what's being done, it's the way it's being done. As she continues to deteriorate psychologically, I just can't see a positive way out."
The biggest threat, Stern said, came from the high-speed convoy of photographers' cars and motorcycles that follow Spears' every move through Los Angeles. The pursuit reached a new frenzy in the early hours of yesterday when the paparazzi tailed an ambulance and police escort taking the 26-year-old singer to hospital for the second time this month.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the trail of emergency vehicles that took Spears to the UCLA Medical Centre stretched longer than a football field. In an operation conducted with military precision, police and medical crews spoke secretively of "delivering the package", in a failed attempt to throw photographers off the scent.
"The paps are completely out of control," said Stern, 43. "It's not unusual to have 20 or 30 cars pursuing her at any one time. It's become acceptable to drive at 80mph down the wrong side of the street into oncoming traffic. I was horrified at what goes on. It's so aggressive, there are fights and crashes and slashed tyres. I felt I needed to say something."
Spears has exhibited increasingly bizarre behaviour in the past 12 months and has lost visitation rights to her two children, Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, one, fathered by her estranged husband, Kevin Federline. The two are engaged in a custody battle.
After the singer's admission to hospital yesterday, a judge at the Los Angeles county superior court signed an order committing her to a mandatory three-day evaluation, after which the stay could be extended to 14 days.
According to sources, Spears' family had planned the intervention for two weeks with the cooperation of the police and hospital but against the wishes of the singer's manager, Sam Lutfi. In recent weeks, friends and family have said they believe she is suffering from bipolar disorder, which is characterised by abrupt mood swings, or other psychiatric problems.
The circus continued in the hospital corridor early yesterday with a heated argument between Lutfi and Lynne and Jamie Spears. According to the celebrity website tmz.com, doctors are now "cooperating fully" with the singer's parents.

The Pop-Queen is going through a hard time in her private life, but her musical career is returning to the top of the world. After the great successes of “Gimme More” and “Piece of Me”, yesterday was launched “Britney Spears feat. Zedstar - Break the ice”.
The song “Break The Ice” was already considered by many Britney’s fans one of the best song of the last album (Blackout), so she has surprise her fans with the launch of a feating version with the new popstar Zedstar.
An inside source says that the song was downloaded more than 50,000 times only yesterday. The Zedstar Official Site http://www.zedstar.net) reports the news in homepage, while the Britney Spears Site http://www.britneyspears.com) is still in construction for the great restyling. It will be ready next week.
Voices says that the launch of the song has been anticipated to remove the attention by last Britney’s private life news.A curiosity is that Zedstar was launched on the international music world an year ago with a duet with another great popstar, Rihanna, with a feating version of “Unfaithful”.
The song has been reviewed by some music crtics, who have compared it to a “Pop-Opera” for his very polished arrangement. They have underlined the importance of the incredible number and of the great variety of the sounds that go with the song in the background. The males voices weave perfectly with the females choirs, while the sex-breaths are totally blended with the music, giving to the song an “instinctive and emotional” style. They have also highlighted how the two voices perfectly merge each other: both Britney and Zedstar have a “mid-high” based voice and a similar behaviour.
