Britney Watch

Currently on tour, Britney has been in and out of Dallas this week in the run-up to her show tonight at American Airlines Center.
On Monday, she was with her two young sons at Gatti Town in Frisco. Tuesday, she turned heads as she walked through the mall at NorthPark. About 1:30 p.m., Britney stopped in at the La Duni eatery overlooking the NorthPark courtyard and had some coffee and cuatro leches cake.

Yoko Ono: Britney Spears Is a Survivor

Britney Spears has come a long way, but Yoko Ono, John Lennon's 76-year-old widow, thinks the pop star deserves more respect.
"I think that the world was not fair to her, and they're just using her and not dignifying her," she told Usmagazine.com at the ThreeAsFour Homage to Yoko Ono on Thursday in NYC.
Up until last year, headlines bearing Spears' name reported on her bizarre psychotic behaviors, drug use, and a tumultuous custody battle with ex Kevin Federline over her two sons, Sean Preston, 4, and Jayden James, 3.
Now, Spears, 27, is hard at work promoting her sixth album, Circus, on a sold-out international tour.
"I think she's a survivor and she's doing very well," Ono told Us.

*Does Happy Dance*

No, she won't be singing live the whole show. BUT, she will be filming those performances and insiders tell us that the shoot will most likely be in 3-D.
How very Miley Cyrus of her!
Details on the release - whether it will be in theaters or some other option - are still being worked out.

The Power of Britney

The following italicized article is from www.wday.com:
Her big top circus brought a big economic boost to Grand Forks. That from economic experts about last weekend's Britney Spears concert at the Alerus.
David Flynn, an Assistant Professor at UND says about one-third of the tickets were sold to Canadians who probably spent $500-thousand dollar on hotel rooms, shopping and restaurants over the weekend.
In all, Flynn estimated the event brought a couple million dollars in extra spending into the Grand Forks community.

Spears' "Big Apple Circus" Comes to Town

A legless woman and a bald man traded tricks on a trampoline. A midget ringleader shouted encouragement from the sideline. Martial artists kicked and flipped in unison.
A near-capacity audience hooted with disbelief as a gymnast flipped and jumped on an inches-wide balance beam.
Then things got more surreal.
Nearly 10 minutes into Spears’ Tuesday night show at Tulsa’s BOK Center, the main attraction herself descended from the ceiling into the center of a gyrating circus.
Spears was nearly lost in the mix. Her dancing, caged animal routine was sexy, but the masked men who danced around her wheeled golden cage during “Piece of Me” stole the show.
By stomping her heels and strutting across the stage in glittered bombast, she stole it right back.
The evening’s show was an over-the-top big top performance in every way. It had to be. Spears is larger than life. Everything about her is gilded and glitzy, over-hyped and hyperspeed. Her “Circus” tour show showcases those traits.
The three-ring spectacle was filled with live choreography — Spears as its sultry ringleader, if not its full-time singer.
The five-act legion of illusion and bewitchment wasn’t the only sleight-of-hand Tuesday night. Much of her set was lip-synched — and Spears was too busy dancing and contorting to be bothered with concealing it.
The lack of “live” singing at a concert is controversial for many, but not for this crowd. The fans came to be entertained.
A magician appeared to cut the star into pieces and then made her lingerie-clad form disappear while she lip-synched and shimmied to “Ooh Ooh Baby” and “Hot as Ice.”
And then there was another costume change and another hippodrome-ready vision of pomp and grandeur.
Half a dozen gold-plated low-rider bicycles rolled in. Dancers enveloped Spears, and then — a solo.
She covered Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know” sans fanfare, nearly alone on stage and dressed in rocker black spandex pants and bikini top. She traipsed out from the circus and into a house of fun.
Quite possibly the largest crowd response came with her live version of “Everytime” as she sat perched in a shimmering bird seat.
Following that song, she skipped, cat-like, into another costume change and into songs “Freakshow” and “Get Naked.”
Masked men gave way to more than a dozen dancers on golden couches. “Breathe on Me” and “Touch of My Hand” followed in an electrified freakshow-peepshow segment.
That morphed into metallic props and welding sparks as a leather-wearing troupe launched into a tattoo and boom-beat segment with “Do Something,” “Toxic” and a street-tough, amped-dance version of “Baby One More Time.”
The live band was lost in the pits for most of the show but gained momentum toward the end of the concert. The organic sound of beating drums and wailing guitars added a sense of humanity — even if it was surreally Technicolored.
But, all that said, even with the sex, the innuendo, the crassness, the bombast and the million-dollar production, there’s still a subtle naïveté about Spears and her stage presence. It peeks from beneath her curtain of hair extensions and her torrid lash-batting, but it’s there.
She didn’t command her audience — but that seemed OK because everyone was already along for the ride.
In many ways, Spears is still the child-like Disney Musketeer. She’s choreographed; she’s beautiful; and her timing’s perfect.
Maybe that’s why, weirdly, it all worked.

Britney Spears Celebrates VMA Win

It’s no secret that she’s experiencing one of the greatest career comebacks in recent memory, and last night (September 13) Britney Spears nabbed the MTV Video Music Award for Best Pop Video.
The “Gimme More” songstress was unable to personally attend the shindig, held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, so she appeared via satellite to say thanks.
Miss Spears was surrounded by the cast of her Circus world tour as she gave her acceptance speech, proudly holding the golden moonman and smiling from ear to ear.
The night before, Britney was busy rocking the stage at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota as she continues her non-stop touring schedule.

Britney Spears Gets Naked (Again) In VMA-Nominated 'Womanizer' Clip

Picture it: you, Britney Spears, a sweaty sauna, and nothing else between you. Like the body-hugging sparkly catsuit in "Toxic" that got tongues wagging, veteran video director Joseph Kahn knew the sight of Britney lounging in a sauna in the "Womanizer" clip would set off a buzz bomb.
Mission accomplished. Like his work on Eminem's "We Made You," which is also nominated for Video of the Year at Sunday's 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, "Womanizer" was the first clip from a crucial comeback album for Britney and Kahn was behind the camera to make sure it went smoothly.
As Kahn has said, he approached "Womanizer" not so much as a sequel to "Toxic," but as an answer to that clip. "I had no idea what the song was going to be, so I had no ideas when I met her about what we would do," said Kahn. "She had a basis of an idea to make a 'Toxic 2.' There are things she's really good at, like having a really natural knack for knowing what girls want."
While his previous collaborations with Spears on "Toxic" had a revenge-on-a-boy scenario, and "Stronger" bore an empowerment message, in "Womanizer" Britney was interested in exploring what her man was doing when he was cheating on her by showing up in different tempting outfits. "It's just a great girl fantasy," Kahn said of the concept for the video, in which Spears portrays a handful of forceful, hyperstylized characters. "The problem was we only had two days to shoot it and it involved multiple costume changes, multiple locations and Britney could only work 12 hours a day."
That meant Kahn had to hustle even more than usual, so he said he was, literally, running around the Los Angeles sets like a maniac, plotting out every second of the shoot like an Army lieutenant.
Although the hectic schedule was a white-knuckle grind, Kahn admitted that one aspect of the shoot was no hassle at all. "That was definitely an interesting thing to bring up," he said of his suggestion to Spears that they film a scenario in which she (barely) covers her naked, sweaty body with just her hands while lounging in a sauna. "I knew that the whole world would be watching, so I wanted something in there that stated, 'This is Britney, this is why you should respect her.' "
Despite the idea of seeking respect through nudity seeming counterintuitive, Kahn explained that he was so angry about how Spears had been attacked over the previous years for her yo-yo-ing weight that he wanted to quash all that talk by ... well, in his own words, "If she was a car with a paint job, I was going to show off the paint job. It was a way for her to gain back her body and smash all those shallow jokes."
As with "Toxic," Kahn had to clear everyone off the set when the time came to shoot the scene, leaving just him and Britney alone for two hours. "We worked together on each costume in the video and we went into a costuming session where she played dress-up for a while," he said, explaining the different sexy looks Britney shows off in the video. "She walks out in different outfits and I'm like, 'Let's try the striped shirt.' I'm sitting there thinking, 'I can't believe they pay me for this. I probably have the best job in the world!' Even Obama would want my job."

Tweet: Mom Finds Britney Spears Tickets!

A multi-city scavenger hunt to find Britney Spears tickets led dozens to an Urbandale park on Friday.
Spears' team and a local radio station posted clues as to where to find the tickets on Twitter. The prize was VIP ring-side seats at the singer's concert Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena.
One clue read, "Look close to the center of the city and you'll find a card, the size of a drivers license so you better look hard." Another Tweet read, "Hopefully you have 'EAGLE' eyes; because you'll have to look high and low for this surprise." Around noon another Tweet appeared," The circus will be fun, we're not lion...remember you're looking for a little card...we know where we'd be tryin." Tweets also hinted at a city that starts with "U", a circus animal statue and tennis and basketball.
The Tweets started around 8 a.m. and by 1:40 p.m. Kathy Knoetfler had found the treasure.
Knoetfler found a laminated card jammed under a picnic table at Lions Park in Urbandale at 72nd Street and Aurora Avenue. The card read, "congratulations you have won tickets to Britney Spears circus tour" and included a phone number to call.
Knoetfler was called to the park by her daughter, Madison, and son, Jackson, who were in the park about 30 minutes before mom found the prize.
Madison, a senior at Dowling High School, said she was thrilled to get the tickets. The family didn't yet have tickets to the concert.

Britney Spears Gets in Some Shopping Before Leaving Chicago

Britney Spears can thank Oprah and U2 for the lack of buzz surrounding her visit to Chicago this week. The talk show host and Irish rock band stole most of the headlines, making Spears somewhat of an afterthought.
The lack of Britney buzz was also due, in part, to her low-key lifestyle these days. Or at least low-key by Spears' standards. There were no outrageous club stories or panty-less pictures, just a couple of sightings at downtown restaurants and a visit to Bloomingdales.
On Wednesday, Spears ate at Bistro 110 with her two sons before performing at the Allstate Arena. The following night, she had dinner with her kids at Baisi Thai, which is located on the 6th floor of The 900 Shops. Spears ordered sweet and sour chicken, sweet and sour shrimp and broccoli and beef -- or as the Chinese place down the street from me likes to call it, the No. 105, the No. 106 and the always popular No. 85.
After dinner, Spears stopped by Bloomingdales and bought a few things from the children's department.

Celeb Fragrances Are Down...Except for One Person

Celebrity names can sell loads of stuff, but these days, they’re stinking up the perfume business.
Indeed, sales of celebrity-branded fragrances are going out of favor faster than the last Britney Spears single, according to TheStreet.com.
Some of the decline, experts suggest, is because consumers may be embarrassed to use a celebrity fragrance.
“On blind scent tests many of these fragrances test extremely well; they're designed to be the least offensive and offer the broadest appeal,” Karen Grant of the market research firm NPD Group told TheStreet.com. “But when a celebrity is associated with it, you see a different reaction.”
Fragrance peddler Parlux France relies heavily on its celebrity branded scents and has taken a hit for it. The company produces Queen Latifah’s Queen, Jessica Simpson’s Fancy and Fancy Love, Andy Roddick's Andy Roddick and all of Paris Hilton's many fragrances (Paris Hilton, Paris Hilton for Men, Heir, Heiress, Just Me, Can Can, Fairy Dust and Siren).
The company lost $4.3 million last year and $2.5 in the second quarter of this year alone.
While the prestige fragrance market as a whole is down 10% from last year, Britney Spears is one celeb who appears to be bucking the odds.
Sales of her fragrances - Fantasy Britney Spears, Britney Spears Believe, Curious Britney Spears and Curious in Control Britney Spears - rose 13% in the June quarter. Elizabeth Arden, the company behind the ageing pop tart's perfumes, just brought out Circus Fantasy, named after her latest tour and album.
Then again, she’s global.
“More than half of the sales of Britney brands were sold of outside of North America,” said an Arden company spokesman.

Britney Is Smokin' (Hot)

BRITNEY SPEARS has successfully quit greasy takeaway food and fatty Starbucks, but there's one habit she just can't seem to kick - smoking. The Womanizer singer was spotted indulging her nicotine cravings on her hotel balcony in Miami yesterday during a break from her Circus tour.
She's been showing off her trim body throughout the summer, courtesy of her improved diet and frequent trips to the gym.
The on-stage outfits have been getting skimpier too.
Brit is, quite literally, smokin'.
