Worn Britney Spears Versace Dress Auctions For Over $8000

The following italicized article is from www.gantdaily.com:

Miley Cyrus assembled some of her Hollywood pals for an eBay auction to benefit the American Red Cross for Haiti relief. The highest winning item was a Versace dress worn by Britney Spears.

After 75 bids, the dress fetched $8,100 during the eBay auction. It was the most successful of the auctions, which included signed tour costumes from Demi Lovato and tickets to the premiere of Cyrus’ upcoming movie, “The Last Song.”

The sparkling Versace dress was worn by Spears when she picked up three awards at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards for her clip “Piece of Me.” The silvery lavender dress was custom-made for Spears for the event. The auction even revealed the dress’ measurements, revealing that it measured 15 inches from underarm to underarm and 37 inches from top to bottom.

The auction helped raise thousands of dollars for Haiti relief. Another winning bids include $3,550 for Cyrus’ Herve Leger mini-dress worn to this year’s Grammy Awards, while a meet and greet with Hugh Jackman on the set of his next movie scored a winning bid of $4,800.

Britney Donates VMA Dress to Miley Cyrus' Auction for Haiti

The following italicized article is from www.people.com:

Miley Cyrus has recruited her celebrity pals for a star-studded online auction to benefit earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.

"Ever since the earthquake, I've been trying to do my part to help the people of Haiti – and I wanted to do more," Cyrus tells PEOPLE.

Starting Feb. 8, fans can go to Ebay.com/Miley to bid on the Herve Leger dress the singer wore to the Jan. 31 Grammy Awards as well as two tickets to the Hollywood premiere of her upcoming film, The Last Song.

Cyrus recruited a bevy of famous friends to chip in too: Nicole Richie donated jewelry from her House of Harlow line and Britney Spears offered up the custom silver Versace minidress she wore to 2008's MTV Video Music Awards.

Britney Spears Donates Dress to Haiti

The following italicized article is from www.tmz.com:

She's no George Clooney, but Britney Spears is doing her part for the Haitian relief effort -- she's donating a dress she wore at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards for auction.

Britney was in court today for a conservatorship hearing, but has since left the courthouse because of a commitment with her kids.

Brit's lawyer, Geraldine Wyle, asked the commissioner for authority to dispose of certain property -- items that are no longer useful to her or her estate. Wyle was not specific, though we're thinking Adnan is one of the items.

We're told the commissioner also wants to get a first hand look-see of how Britney was doing. No reviews so far.

Britney Spears' Style Is 'So Real,' Christian Siriano Says

The following italicized article is from www.mtv.com:

Britney Spears has made a career out of crawling around onstage and dancing through her videos in barely there outfits. But when it comes to really nailing down the one moment that Britney was at her most stylish, designer Christian Siriano says it's all about her understated look when she performed onstage with Madonna in 2008.

"My favorite Britney moment was when she was kind of having this tiny bit of a comeback, right at the beginning," he told MTV News. "And it was when she wore the beautiful black pants and that white blouse onstage with Madonna. I thought that was so chic and so not her, so that's why I really liked it."

Britney also dazzled Siriano's senses at the 2008 VMAs. "And then obviously when she won all of her music awards recently in that sequin dress," he recalled. "And she looked really chic, but I liked it. I think it worked."

She also could do no wrong at the 2001 VMAs. "She did wear a black Dolce and Gabbana minidress, like, years and years ago," he remembered. "That was good. That was really good. Even though it was crazy, that was good."

Siriano said he would love to tackle the challenge of designing a little something for the pop star. He's already got Lady Gaga on his résumé, so why not?

"I always say, 'Britney, I would love to do it,' " he said. "I would love to make something fabulous for her because fashion-wise, it's very interesting. She's one of the biggest pop icons but ... it's never about clothes ever. It's so weird, because every other of these pop divas it's so much about clothing and fashion, and it's not with Britney. It's very strange."

But, Siriano applauded her down-to-earth, girl-next-door sense of style. "On her down days, she's just a normal girl and in her cutout jeans and Uggs and cutoff T-shirt," he said. "And I think it's kind of cool that it's so real."

Britney Spears Celebrates VMA Win

The following italicized article is from www.celebrity-gossip.net:

It’s no secret that she’s experiencing one of the greatest career comebacks in recent memory, and last night (September 13) Britney Spears nabbed the MTV Video Music Award for Best Pop Video.

The “Gimme More” songstress was unable to personally attend the shindig, held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, so she appeared via satellite to say thanks.

Miss Spears was surrounded by the cast of her Circus world tour as she gave her acceptance speech, proudly holding the golden moonman and smiling from ear to ear.

The night before, Britney was busy rocking the stage at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota as she continues her non-stop touring schedule.

Britney Wins Best Pop Video @ VMA's

Britney Spears Gets Naked (Again) In VMA-Nominated 'Womanizer' Clip

The following italicized article is from www.mtv.com:

Picture it: you, Britney Spears, a sweaty sauna, and nothing else between you. Like the body-hugging sparkly catsuit in "Toxic" that got tongues wagging, veteran video director Joseph Kahn knew the sight of Britney lounging in a sauna in the "Womanizer" clip would set off a buzz bomb.

Mission accomplished. Like his work on Eminem's "We Made You," which is also nominated for Video of the Year at Sunday's 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, "Womanizer" was the first clip from a crucial comeback album for Britney and Kahn was behind the camera to make sure it went smoothly.

As Kahn has said, he approached "Womanizer" not so much as a sequel to "Toxic," but as an answer to that clip. "I had no idea what the song was going to be, so I had no ideas when I met her about what we would do," said Kahn. "She had a basis of an idea to make a 'Toxic 2.' There are things she's really good at, like having a really natural knack for knowing what girls want."

While his previous collaborations with Spears on "Toxic" had a revenge-on-a-boy scenario, and "Stronger" bore an empowerment message, in "Womanizer" Britney was interested in exploring what her man was doing when he was cheating on her by showing up in different tempting outfits. "It's just a great girl fantasy," Kahn said of the concept for the video, in which Spears portrays a handful of forceful, hyperstylized characters. "The problem was we only had two days to shoot it and it involved multiple costume changes, multiple locations and Britney could only work 12 hours a day."

That meant Kahn had to hustle even more than usual, so he said he was, literally, running around the Los Angeles sets like a maniac, plotting out every second of the shoot like an Army lieutenant.

Although the hectic schedule was a white-knuckle grind, Kahn admitted that one aspect of the shoot was no hassle at all. "That was definitely an interesting thing to bring up," he said of his suggestion to Spears that they film a scenario in which she (barely) covers her naked, sweaty body with just her hands while lounging in a sauna. "I knew that the whole world would be watching, so I wanted something in there that stated, 'This is Britney, this is why you should respect her.' "

Despite the idea of seeking respect through nudity seeming counterintuitive, Kahn explained that he was so angry about how Spears had been attacked over the previous years for her yo-yo-ing weight that he wanted to quash all that talk by ... well, in his own words, "If she was a car with a paint job, I was going to show off the paint job. It was a way for her to gain back her body and smash all those shallow jokes."

As with "Toxic," Kahn had to clear everyone off the set when the time came to shoot the scene, leaving just him and Britney alone for two hours. "We worked together on each costume in the video and we went into a costuming session where she played dress-up for a while," he said, explaining the different sexy looks Britney shows off in the video. "She walks out in different outfits and I'm like, 'Let's try the striped shirt.' I'm sitting there thinking, 'I can't believe they pay me for this. I probably have the best job in the world!' Even Obama would want my job."

All Hail Britney, Queen of the VMAs!

The following italicized article is from www.rollingstone.com:

Congratulations, Britney! You’re up for seven VMAs this year! It’s a moment of sweet redemption for Britz, because it means she will return once again to the stage where she’s tasted her sugariest highs and her most Xanax-tical lows. Let’s face it, Britney is the VMAs. She’s the reason we watch every year — it’s how we take the temperature of the Britney universe. She was made for this show, and it was made for her.

Once more, Lady B shall take the stage where she suffered the indignity of the 2007 VMAs, where she mumbled, bumbled, and stumbled through a rendition of “Gimme More” that traumatized her fans, bumping into her scared-looking back-up dancers, rocking her spray-painted abs and one of Bret Michaels’ used hairpieces. As people used to say way back in 2007, it was a “fail,” as well as a “hot tranny mess.”

Britz made her return to the VMAs last year, showing she could make the scene as a wholesome, soft-spoken Southern gal, but with all these nominations, she has a chance for an even bigger comeback — not to mention an even bigger celebration of her place as the pop queen of the decade. Nobody should be surprised if she sweeps all seven of her categories, just because “Womanizer” is a seven-times-awesome kind of song, although given that it’s up against heavy hitters like “Single Ladies,” “Poker Face” and “Love Lockdown,” she might want to rehearse her “it’s an honor just to be nominated, y’all” cliche just in case. (Bizarrely, she’s not nominated for Best Female Video, maybe because she’s too much of a woman-woman-womanizer?)

Given that Eminem got a bunch of nominations as well, maybe MTV is just having spasms of 1999 nostalgia. But this a moment for all her fans to savor, wonder why the new category for “Best [Old] Video That Should Have Been A Moonman” doesn’t have a nod for her “Lucky” video, from 2000. That’s a classic. It was her Kid A.

Britney Gets Nailed With Seven MTV VMA Nominations

The following italicized article is from www.eonline.com:

Britney Spears has done it again.

I can exclusively reveal that our favorite comeback kid has been nominated for not one, not two, not three…well, seven MTV Video Music Awards.

Last year, the pop princess made a brilliant return to the VMA stage when she took home three Moon Man trophies for "Piece of Me."

And while we hate to remember this...

Could ya believe it was only two years ago that Spears solidified her trainwreck status at the VMAs in Las Vegas with her disastrous performance of "Gimme More" in front of an audience that included Megan Fox?

This year's awards will be handed out and broadcast live on MTV from New York's Radio City Music Hall Sept. 13. Russell Brand returns as host.

No word yet if Brit will be added to this year's performance roster, which already includes Taylor Swift, Pink, Green Day and Muse. Additional nominees and performers are expected to be announced later today.

Britney Spears' Comeback -- It's The Real Deal

The following italicized article is from www.insidebayarea.com:

There have been points over the last five years when the chances of Britney Spears mounting a successful comeback seemed about as likely as George W. Bush being elected mayor of Berkeley.

At other moments, the odds looked even worse.

The former teen dream had spent the last five years becoming the ultimate tabloid queen. Her sad tale unfolded before us at the supermarket checkout lanes, as headlines screamed out the latest misadventures of the former "Mickey Mouse Club" sweetheart; with each paparazzi payday it seemed like Spears was taking another step toward the point of no return.

Connecting with the public

Yet a funny thing happened on the way to the land of pop culture has-beens: Spears somehow managed to turn things around, at least professionally. Her new album, "Circus" debuted at No. 1. Her concert tour is doing strong business. She's turning out to be one of 2009's most convincing comebacks.

How did this happen when things, not so long ago, seemed so bleak? Some point to the surprisingly good quality of her 2007 album "Blackout," which, ironically, was a commercial failure. But an even larger element seems to be that she was able to turn all her messy trials and tribulations into a legitimate connection with the public. We really wanted her to turn things around

As fans prepare for Spears' three Northern California concerts — Saturday at Arco Arena in Sacramento, April 12 at HP Pavilion in San Jose and April 22 at Oracle Arena in Oakland — it seems apropos to look back at Spears' recent rollercoaster ride of a career and hopefully shed some light on why Britney has succeeded in an area where so many others have failed.

'Til death do us part'

During the first half of her career, Spears seemingly could do no wrong. She rose to stardom with the 1998 single —...Baby One more Time" and released hit album after hit album, becoming the first female performer to have four consecutive discs debut atop the charts. She did all this while managing to maintain a highly marketable public image that, for the most part, successfully married teen idol and sex kitten. She also had a storybook romance with another emerging Mouse Club alum, Justin Timberlake. It seemed the young princess of pop would someday marry her equally attractive prince in a wedding that would be the grandest since Prince Charles wed Diana.

Instead, they broke up. And if one had to nail down a date for when it all began to unravel for Spears, one might point to Jan. 3, 2004, the day she surprised the world by marrying childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander at a Las Vegas chapel. The fact that the marriage only lasted 55 hours before being annulled gave the impression that the starlet didn't have a firm grasp on her personal life.

From there, things began to snowball. She married a second time, to little-known dancer Kevin Federline, who abandoned his girlfriend and their two out-of-wedlock children to take up with Britney. Spears had two children with K-Fed, did things that made mothers-at-large cringe, then divorced her second husband and fought for custody of their children.

Living la vida loco

Spears become a constant fixture on the celeb night life scene, and revealing photos of her (such as that infamous panty-less shot), once considered the Holy Grail for Web-browsing peeping Toms, became as ubiquitous on the Internet as ads to refinance your home.

She shaved her head, for no apparent reason, and was hospitalized for psychiatric evaluation, for very apparent reasons. There was talk of drug use, and her career was stalling: Her fifth disc, 2007's "Blackout," became her first not to top the Billboard album charts.

As late as February 2008, Rolling Stone magazine ran a cover story titled "The Tragedy of Britney Spears," which summed up the public perception of the fallen star. The whole thing was like some grandiose Greek tragedy, starring a former Mouseketeer from Mississippi, and oddly enough people couldn't get enough of it. Or, perhaps, the appeal wasn't so weird after all.

What Spears had succeeded in doing, with all her personal failures, was to create a celebrity image that felt far more "real" than nearly anything the public had ever seen (with a downfall that rivaled Lindsay Lohan's for media access). It's hard for regular folks to truly identify with a megastar who's on top of the world and selling millions of albums, but it's not hard to connect with one going through breakups, child custody battles and financial woes. Spears was unable to do something that she was never able to do before 2004: She made us feel like she was one of us.

Now, seemingly every celebrity is attempting to accomplish something similar. Countless pop culture icons, who once nurtured the image of being different from the public at-large, are going out of their way to come across like Average Joes and Janes. They use their blogs and Twitter to keep fans up to date on everything from what they had for breakfast to how their relationships are going. Think John Mayer and Pete Wentz. None of them, however, have consistently given us more of interest, without seemingly trying, than Britney.

The public might be fascinated with a "crash and burn." But people love a comeback. Spears certainly qualified for the former, and she showed enough resilience to give watchers hope that she might also make it to the latter.

'Circus' comes to town

By Britney standards, "Blackout" was a commercial disappointment, though many critics (including this one) thought it was her best record to date. And it plays a big role in Britney's comeback. It propelled Spears to a big night at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 7, 2008. The CD's key single, "Piece of Me," would garner trophies for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Video of the Year. Suddenly, Britney was getting good press.

Spears' record label, Jive, capitalized by quickly releasing the first single from her forthcoming sixth CD to radio. The track, a contagious dance ditty called "Womanizer," shot to the top of the charts by mid-October and — surprise, surprise — Britney found herself with one of the biggest hits of her career.

When the album "Circus" was released at the end of November, it debuted at No. 1. It's one thing to persuade a fan to drop $15 on a CD (or download), but it's quite another to get people to spend hundreds of dollars on concert tickets. Spears proved up to that challenge as well.

The singer's road show is turning out to be one of the year's top tickets. That's definitely the story in Northern California, where the tour — the singer's first major outing in five years —is expected to see nothing but full houses during its three stops.

"Anytime an artist is away from the scene for awhile, you have to wonder if their audience will still be around," says Gary Bongiovanni, editor-in-chief of the concert industry trade publication Pollstar. "Obviously, Britney has a legitimate fan base that still wants to see her perform live."

That fan base is also willing to pay top dollar for the opportunity. Tickets for her local concerts run as high as $750. That's a lot of dough to drop in these tough economic times, especially for an artist who has seemingly given her fans every reason in the world to stop caring.

Yet, if anything, they seem to care even more than ever.

"I want my kids to see her succeed," says Castro Valley resident Arlene Chaves, who is spending some $2,000 to take her family to the Oakland concert. "I'm excited, personally, to see the show, because I really feel bad for her. I feel bad for what she's been through, and it makes me feel good to see her come back."

Britney Spears 'Comeback' Waxwork Unveiled At Madame Tussauds

The following italicized article is from www.telegraph.co.uk:

The attraction already has several Spears waxworks at its museums across the world but wanted a glamorous new model to depict the pop star's return to form.

The statue, which was unveiled in London this morning, shows the 27-year-old singer in a sparkly silver dress with plunging neckline, holding one of the three MTV Video Music Awards she won in September.

"We are delighted to be featuring Britney at Madame Tussauds London for the second time," said the venue's Liz Edwards.

"Her original figure captured a provocative pose from her 2001 Dream Within A Dream Tour and was extremely popular.

"However, she's undergone a huge transformation since then and we wanted to reflect her as she is now."

The broad smile and long blond hair are a far cry from images of Spears in 2007, when she was filmed shaving her head in a salon window during a high-profile breakdown.

But the former Disney child star has rebuilt her career and her world tour is due to hit the UK this summer at London's 02 Arena.

She recently released her sixth studio album Circus, a follow-up to her album Blackout which was popular with the critics despite expectations due to her well-documented personal troubles.

Spears is one of the top-selling artists of the last decade and has sold more than 62 million albums worldwide.

To celebrate her latest wax incarnation, Madame Tussauds has launched an interactive dance experience. The Britney Dance Chain will allow visitors to learn some of Spears' best moves, enter a "dance tunnel" and strut their stuff on camera.

Britney Spears: A Look Back At How The Pop Star Took Back 2008

The following italicized article is from www.mtv.com:

If anyone is the comeback kid of 2008, it's Britney Spears. That's pretty amazing, considering the fact that in just the first week of the year, she was placed in a hospital for psychiatric observation and lost custody of her two young sons. But over the course of the past 12 months, she seems to have recuperated her losses. She got back to work, showed off her comedic chops on TV, hit the recording and dance studios, won some VMAs, made a tell-all documentary and had a #1 single and album.

Here's a look back at the moments — from awful lows to victorious highs — that made up the year in Britney:

Britney Hospitalized

On January 3, Britney refused to turn her sons over to Kevin Federline's bodyguards and reportedly locked herself in a bathroom with Jayden James. Police, fire trucks and helicopters arrived at the scene, and the pop singer was taken to Cedars-Sinai, where she was held for mental evaluation. Spears wasn't charged with any criminal wrongdoing and was released from the hospital two days later.

Britney Loses Custody of Her Kids

Following Britney's first hospitalization, Federline gained sole custody of Sean Preston and Jayden James, and Britney's visitation with her sons was temporarily suspended.

Britney Hospitalized ... Again

In January 2008, the best way to describe Britney was as a "beleaguered pop star." She was rushed to the UCLA Medical Center after being physically removed from her home by authorities, only weeks after her first hospitalization. Both her parents were by her side, as well as constant companion and "manager" Sam Lutfi. She was released a week later.

Britney Hooks Up With, Then Ditches Sam Lutfi And Adnan Ghalib

Aside from Justin Timberlake, Britney has always had questionable taste in men. From Jason Alexander to Federline, Spears has always opted to have unfamous clingers-on by her side. And in 2008, that included paparazzo Adnan Ghalib and Lutfi, who managed to take control of the pop star's life and push away those closest to her in a very short time. With the help of her parents (and their lawyers), who filed a restraining order against Lutfi while Brit was in the hospital, she ultimately got rid of these questionable influences.

Britney Goes To Court— And Sometimes Doesn't

In 2008, Britney had a lot of dates with her lawyers. She was in court to regain custody of her kids (eventually getting her visiting rights restored), she was in court for her driving violations, and she was in court when her dad, Jamie Spears, took over control of her affairs in February. This court order may have taken away her right to make her own decisions, but it gave her the stability and structure she seemed to need.

Britney Makes Them Laugh

In a March episode of the CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother," Britney showed everyone that she's up for making you laugh, intentionally, playing Abby the love-struck dermatologist's receptionist. She did so well, in fact, that she was asked to return for another episode, and some wondered if perhaps comedy could be a new career option for the "Mickey Mouse Club" alum.

Britney Hangs With Russell Brand ... And An Elephant

"How I Met Your Mother" proved she could be funny, so even skeptics were interested when she teamed up with VMA host Russell Brand for a promo spot. Ignoring the literal elephant in the room, the "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" star flirted with Brit relentlessly. And when Brand suggested there was some sexual tension between them, Britney won back our hearts and confidence by quipping dryly, "I didn't feel any tension."

Britney Finally Scoops Up Some Moonmen

With nearly a decade of VMA nominations and performances under her belt, Britney finally earned herself not one, but three Moonmen in 2008, including Video of the Year for "Piece of Me." Erasing the image of her 2007 VMA appearance, Brit glammed it up and giggled her way to victory at MTV's big show, which included a funny little opening skit with "Superbad" star Jonah Hill.

Britney Tells All In "For The Record"

In her very personal MTV documentary, Brit talked in great length about her breakups with Federline and Timberlake, discussed being a mom and how important her two sons are and opened up about her very public breakdowns. It also showed everyone the steps Britney was taking to making her big, splashy comeback with her new album, Circus.

Britney's Back On Top With Circus

On the heels of the less-than-stellar success of Blackout, Britney headed to the Circus and released her sixth studio album on December 2, her 27th birthday. The album and its first single, "Womanizer," have become smash hits. With first-week album sales of over 500,000 copies, the once-disgraced pop princess has managed to finish 2008 with a triumphant bang. And judging by ticket sales for her tour, 2009 might not be too shabby either.

Britney Seals Her Comeback With X-Factor Performance

The following italicized article is from www.dailymail.co.uk:

After a No.4 hit with her latest track Womanizer and two MTV Europe Music Awards last week, Britney Spears is continuing her comeback with a live performance on The X Factor.

The pop star, 26, will cement her return to the music industry with a performance of her single on the hit ITV talent show.

Britney will also meet the six remaining contests on the November 29th broadcast.

Britney's appearance comes after Mariah Carey and Will Young appeared on recent Saturday's, mentoring the contestants.

The superstar's X Factor performance will be her first on UK television for five years.

After a difficult few years, during which she went through a divorce and was hospitalised twice for psychiatric evaluation, Britney is now looking better than she has in years.

Since dealing with her problems with the help of her father Jamie and mother Lynne, Britney has been focusing her energies of getting her career back on track.

She picked up three awards at the MTV Video Music Awards in September for her single Piece Of Me, and continued her success at the MTV Europe Music Awards last week with two trophies - even though she was unable to attend the Liverpool ceremony.

Earlier this month, Britney wowed fans when she joined Madonna on stage during the Material Girl's Los Angeles gig.

Her sixth studio album Circus is set for release on her 27th birthday on December 2nd.

She took a step back from her career when she first met her then-husband Kevin Federline in 2004.

The dancer accompanied her to London on the European leg of her Onyx Hotel Room Tour.

But after injuring her knee filming the video for her song Outrageous, Britney cancelled the rest of her tour and returned to the U.S., where she started planning her marriage to Kevin.

After marrying the aspiring rapper in September 2004, Britney took several years out of her career to raise her two children Sean Preston, three; and Jayden James, two.

Billboard Reviews 'Womanizer'

The following italicized article is from www.billboard.com:

Everyone loves a good comeback, though it's ironic that commercially, Britney Spears never went anywhere. If anything, her personal troubles heightened interest in last year's "Blackout" album and top five smash "Gimme More." This year has seen a less public Spears —certainly none of the bizarre behavior of the past couple of years. "Womanizer" from new album "Circus" (Dec. 2), finds Brit in futuristic electronica mode (similar territory to peer Christina Aguilera). Credit producers/ writers the Outsyders for injecting a bit of reality into her lyrics, in this case directed at a certain ex, in which Spears chastises, "You say I'm crazy . . . I got your crazy." While the repetitive hook might affect chart longevity, the best news here is Spears' engaged vocal, unlike last year's tracks, which focused more on production tricks to cover unfocused delivery. After triple-play wins at MTV's Video Music Awards, where a coherent Spears appeared grateful and surprised —and a creative (albeit gratuitous) video that's igniting blogs—could it be our Britney is truly back?
