Britney Moves Into A Tie For Second-Most No. 1s In The Mainstream Top 40

Britney Spears moves into a tie for second-most No. 1s in the Mainstream Top 40 chart's 16-year history, as "Circus" becomes her fifth chart-topper with a 3-1 rise. She's tied with Beyonce, Avril Lavigne, Pink and Justin Timberlake, and they all trail Mariah Carey's six career leaders. "Circus" also grants Spears her first set of back-to-back No. 1s -- "Womanizer" led for two weeks in December. She previously reigned with "Baby One More Time" (1999), "Oops! I Did It Again" (2000) and "Toxic" (2004).

Britney Spears's Hairstylist Testifies Against Sam Lutfi

The following italicized article is from www.people.com:

Britney Spears's hairstylist testified in a Los Angeles courtroom Wednesday that the singer's ex-manager, Sam Lutfi, harassed her with calls and text messages over a period of three weeks last December.

"Someone kept calling me from a private number ... he said his name was Sam," Roberta Romero stated Wednesday. "He wanted information about Britney He said he was on her side. I told him, 'Leave me alone, stop calling me.' "

Lutfi allegedly sent Romero a series of 11 texts within a four day period, saying things like, "Please relay the truth to her. I did not do this to her," apparently referring to Jamie Spears's indefinite control over the singer's life. Lutfi also allegedly texted Romero: "I've done everything I can to free her from this. Very close to getting her free now." On another occasion he allegedly wrote: "I went to court to free her." Romero says she repeatedly told Lutfi to leave her alone via text.

Restraining Order Extended

The hearing was held to determine whether to uphold a restraining order, filed by Britney's father, against Lutfi and ex-boyfriend Adnan Ghalib. After three hours of proceedings, the restraining orders were extended to March 18, with the case to resume April 1 to hear more witnesses.

Romero testified about an evening on Dec. 27 when she and Britney went to watch The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Lutfi had been sending text messages to Romero that evening, and later, the two women texted back, "Leave me the [expletive] alone."

At some point that evening, Lutfi texted Romero, "Can you wish her a Merry Christmas for me?" At 2 a.m., the women sought help from the singer's bodyguard, Itamar Gelbman, who also testified in court.

The Bodyguard Steps In

"[Britney] complained Sam was texting her, and that she's scared," Gelbman said in court. "She asked for more patrols [around the house]. She wanted me to do more, to make sure everything was locked. She couldn't fall asleep because of [Sam's texts to Romero]. She told me to make him stop." Gelbman says he immediately called Lutfi and told him to leave the women alone.

Lawyers for Jamie Spears said Lutfi had been subpoenaed Tuesday night for cross-examination in court. The process server taped a notice to appear on his car windshield, they said, but Lutfi failed to show up.

His attorney, Bryan Freedman, claimed that Lutfi wasn't properly served, and has denied that his client has been harassing the singer.

Brit's Bodyguard: She's So Scared That She Can't Sleep!

The following italicized article is from www.ok-magazine.com:

After the court heard testimony on Monday from Britney Spears' father Jamie Spears, the hearing to decide whether or not to extend the restraining order against Sam Lutfi continued today with revealing testimony from her hairdresser and bodyguard.

According to Roberta Romero, who has been working on the pop superstar's hair for about a year now, sometime in late December, Sam got a hold of her cell phone number and sent her a total of 11 texts between Dec. 24 and Dec. 28.

Per Roberta's testimony, Sam first began contacting her in early December, when he attempted to call her several times from a blocked phone. Though he refused at first to identify himself, she was able to get him to admit that it was indeed Sam. He allegedly tried to have Roberta get a message to Britney that he was "trying to help her," but she refused, telling him that she believed him to be a bad influence on Brit.

The texting barrage began on Dec. 24 when Sam contacted Roberta with asking to "please wish her a Merry Christmas for me."

And then on Dec. 27, he began texted Roberta again with pleas to relay "the truth" to Britney.

"She can look at the court docs online," read one text. "I didn't do any of this to her."

Another text made the claim that Britney's hospitalization in February 2008 was all part of a conspiracy for her family to gain control over her.

"Her family put her into the hospital just to set up the conservatorship," read the text. "I've done everything I can to free her.... I'm very close to getting her free now."

Roberta testified that when Brit discovered the texts late in the evening on Dec. 27, she asked Roberta to text him back, asking him to stop trying to reach her. When that didn't stop, the pair went to speak to Britney's head of security, Itamar Gelbman, who also testified today.

After being made aware of the texts, Gelbman contacted Sam directly by phone and told him that if the attempts to contact Britney did not stop, he would notify the police.

"She was scared... She can't fall asleep," Gelbman testified, saying that Britney asked him to increase the security patrols around her house.

It was also revealed in court today that Gelbman and his team keep a binder of people who they feel are threats to the singer, and that both Sam and Brit's ex-boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib are in this binder.

Apparently the court thinks he's enough of a threat to Britney to merit extending the restraining order until March 18, at which point it will likely be extended once more until at least the scheduled trial date of April 1.

Illusionist Spills Britney's Circus Tour Secrets

The following italicized article is from www.people.com:

As Britney Spears gears up to kick off her Circus tour March 3 in New Orleans, PEOPLE enlisted the tour's resident illusionist, Ed Alonzo, for a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the tricks – musical and otherwise – the star, 27, has in store for fans.

So is this comeback for the serially-troubled Spears? "I don't know if I would call it a comeback," says Alonzo, a lead illusionist on MyNetworkTV's Masters of Illusion. "It's more of a continuation of the greatness she always had."

Britney Plays a Magician's Assistant

During one song (Alonzo won't say which one), Britney becomes part of his magic act. "She's incorporated into major illusions. She'll do dissection, where she's sawed in half, and transposition, where she's in one place and ends up in another place. She's doing all the classic elements of magic."

Yep, It'll be a Spectacle

"There are three giant [circus] rings with unbelievable things hanging in the air and flying around," says Alonzo.

Expect Outrageous Dancing

"She's dancing so hard in the show," Alonzo says. "It's elements of hip-hop, tumbling, it's really outrageous. The kind of choreography in the show is similar to the kind of stuff you see in America's Best Dance Crew."

Brit's Back in Shape

"She looks really incredible," says Alonzo, who played Max, the owner of the diner hangout, in the '90s TV hit Saved By The Bell. "She's really toned. Her stomach looks fantastic. This is the Britney Spears people remember from the past. Even stronger and better."

This Time, Britney's on Point

Forget her bungled performance at the 2007 MTV's VMAs. "She's really got it together," says Alonzo. "She's totally focused. And she's working her butt off."

Britney Spears to Get Sawed in Half and Other Circus Tour Secrets

The following italicized article is from www.eonline.com:

Sort of like a wayward career, Britney Spears is going to disappear into thin air—and then magically reappear, to her fans' ecstatic delight.

"Right away, she got into the boxes and into the magic contraptions to learn the stuff, and she's so excited about this tour and all the elements that are in it," illusionist-comedian Ed Alonzo, "the Misfit of Magic" (and former Saved by the Bell diner owner) who will be doing a number with Spears on her Circus tour, tells E! News.

The pop star will serve as Alonzo's assistant in the bit.

"We're going to be doing the classics of magic but a little high-tech," he said. "We'll be doing a little dissection, transposition, a vanish, an appearance—and if I do a trick she doesn't just hold the props, she's actually getting inside the big boxes or I am slicing her up."

Sounds a bit risky, which is perhaps why Team Spears decided to leave the tricks to a professional.

I "made [the tricks] really easy for her...but there are some complicated things that she is doing that you would think a contortionist would have to do, or a trained magicians assistant," Alonzo said. "But because...she's a dancer, it really makes sense to put her in the magic, and it works and she's really really good at it."

"Some of it's pretty scary but she gets right in there with no reservations," he added.

Alonzo wouldn't divulge which Spears tunes would be accompanying his mini magic show, but—news flash—he did assure us that the overall show will feature "the best music of Britney that people have loved over the years and of course brand new favorites from the new album."

And, like us, Alonzo has only seen Spears in warm-up clothes and sneakers during rehearsals, although she has been testing out different pairs of heels here and there.

The three-ring circus-inspired set is "exactly what you would see in a big giant Vegas production show, but it's going to be on the road," he said, and anywhere from 75 to 100 crew members and performers are usually around at any given time.

"It's going to be an amazing concert for people to watch," he said. "It's like watching a big Cirque du Soleil high-tech circus but with a really focused star in the middle of all of this."

Britney's Ex Charged with Three Felonies

The following italicized article is from www.tmz.com:

Adnan Ghalib -- the papper/ex-BF of Britney Spears -- has been charged with three felonies for allegedly smashing his car into a process server earlier this month ... and there's a warrant out for his arrest.

The L.A. County District Attorney has charged Adnan with assault with a deadly weapon, battery, and hit and run -- all felonies.

Ghalib allegedly hit a man with his car in an alley back on February 11. The man was reportedly trying to serve Adnan with legal papers on behalf of Britney Spears.

One law enforcement source says Ghalib allegedly hit the dude, who landed on the hood, and then continued driving.

The server jumped on the hood of Ghalib's Mercedes to avoid being pinned against a trash truck.

Cops and paramedics were called. The victim broke his wrist and suffered cuts and bruises.

Prosecutors are asking for bail set at $110,000. If convicted, Ghalib could get seven years in prison.

Britney's Dad Calls Ex-Manager a 'Predator'

The following italicized article is from www.people.com:

Under her father's care and control, Britney Spears now lives a protected life, her access even to telephones strictly restricted.

So when the 27-year-old pop star managed to get a prepaid cell phone recently, her security team confiscated it from her purse while she was at a dance practice. Confronted, she revealed the phone was given to her by someone during a hotel stay.

And that person, she disclosed, got it from two men whom her father wants to keep permanently in the singer's troubled past: ex-manager Sam Lutfi and former boyfriend, paparazzo Adnan Ghalib.

Jamie Spears described the cellular phone incident in testimony Monday in a Los Angeles court as he sought to maintain a restraining order against Lutfi, whom Jamie has claimed harassed Britney and has sought to undermine Jamie's legal control over her life.

"Leave Us Alone"

"When [Lutfi] was in so-called control, she'd lost everything – her kids and career," Jamie said at the hearing. "I believe he's a predator, I believe he's very dangerous to her ... and causes her a lot of anguish and disbelief. We've asked him to go away before, and now he's coming back. We just want the man to go away. Just leave us alone."

In court papers, Lutfi 34, denies he's been harassing Spears, countering that it's been Spears reaching out to him – not the other way around – by sending him text messages even though court orders forbid her from doing so.

Lutfi does admit that he's passed messages on to her through her hairdresser and others, including Ghalib, 36, but argues that the messages weren't harmful in any way.

Harassing Text Messages

But Jamie Spears testified about a series of what he called threatening text messages he received last month from someone with the screen name "citygalin310," who he was later "100 percent" sure was Lutfi.

Without divulging details, Spears said the texts appeared to be someone "trying to extort my daughter." He replied to the messages by saying, "What are you looking for? Our family has been through so much."

Fifteen minutes after receiving those texts, Jamie said Lutfi called him. "[Sam] began to cry and he basically fell apart on the phone," said Jamie.

Lutfi complained that the Spears family statements against him "were giving him a bad name," Jamie said. "He went on and on. He said he knew what was wrong with [Britney]." Lutfi wanted to meet with Jamie to discuss her situation, but Jamie declined and referred Lutfi to his lawyer, Jamie testified.

Details of Stand-Off

Jamie also revealed why his daughter locked herself in a bathroom with son Jayden, leading to her first hospitalization last year.

"She was told by Lutfi she could have her children for another night," Jamie said.

But when a bodyguard for her ex-husband Kevin Federline arrived to get the children, "She didn't want to let her kids go because she thought she could have them for another night," Jamie said. He then somberly described his daughter during that night at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center as "kind of wild" and "just very messed up."

Before he took legal control, he testified, Britney's life "was pretty well a disaster. She had nothing going on, just mostly [being] in the tabloids." But today she's "very stable, making her meetings, taking care of her babies, doing things she's supposed to do," he said.

In cross-examination, Lutfi's attorney Bryan Freedman pointed out that Spears's father only knew of one outgoing call to Lutfi's number. Spears testified that he didn't know whether Lutfi answered the line or not.

Lutfi's lawyer denied to PEOPLE that Lutfi was the user of screen name "citygalin310."

The hearing will resume Wednesday with more testimony from other witnesses.

Jamie: Britney Was Drugged!

The following italicized article is from www.radaronline.com:

Taking the stand Monday afternoon, Britney Spears' dad Jamie testified in hopes of making the temporary restraining orders against Adnan Ghalib, Sam Lutfi, and a former lawyer John Eardley permanent. Ready for battle, the eldest Spears had some fighting words for the men who were once central figures in his daughter's life.

While Jamie was unable to point to any specific incidences of Lutfi threatening Britney, he pointed to menacing text messages he received from the alias "Citygalin310".

"I absolutely believe that Citygalin310 is Sam Lutfi. Sam is very deceitful and lies." Jamie said. In one of his more explosive statements, Jamie claimed "Sam put drugs in [Britney's] biscuits", often kept her out until 5 a.m., and restricted Britney's contact with her family.

Jamie has also been under scrutiny since stepping in as his daughter's conservator, but he says Britney has greatly improved under his watch.

"[Her career] was pretty well a disaster, nothing was going on, but she was in the tabloids," he says, describing the time period during which Lutfi oversaw Britney's activities. "[Today] weight-wise she's eating properly, she's very stable, making her meetings, and taking care of the babies."

As Radaronline.com previously reported, Britney did not appear in court and neither did Ghalib or Lutfi.

Jamie Spears Calls Sam Lutfi a "Predator"

The following italicized article is from www.ok-magazine.com:

In a rare open-court hearing this afternoon, Britney Spears' father Jamie Spears testified against her former constant companion, Sam Lutfi, whom he labeled as a "predator" and "very dangerous."

The testimony from Papa Spears was part of a hearing to determine whether or not restraining orders against Lutfi and Brit's ex-boyfriend, photographer Adnan Ghalib, should be extended. The actual hearing isn't until Wednesday, but Jamie testified today because he will be out of town.

In his testimony, Brit's dad recalled how he discovered how he believes that Sam, who has been forbidden from contacting the pop star for almost a year, was keeping in touch with her.

According to Jamie, Britney's nanny discovered the singer talking on a cell phone in her room during the wee hours of the night. Problem is — Brit-Brit is not allowed to have a cell phone. She must use either her father's phone or the house phone.

So when his daughter was away from the house one day, he had her head of security go through Britney's purse, where he discovered a prepaid Nokia cell phone. He then confronted her with discovery and she explained that someone had given it to her while she was at the Peninsula Hotel. Per Jamie's testimony, the person handed it to Brit and said, "This is from Sam and Adnan. Take the phone."

Perusing the numbers on the phone, Jamie saw several calls to people he believed to be Sam — using the code name "CityGalN310" — and Adnan, who supposedly used the code name "Ruba."

On Jan. 10, Sam, using the CityGalN310 name, allegedly sent several texts to Jamie before ultimately calling him on the phone.

"Sam wanted to know if her could help me in any way," Jamie told the court. "He began to cry and fall apart. His mother and family is very upset because I had given him a bad name."

About the texts, Jamie testified, "They were very disturbing. They felt like a threat... like someone was trying to extort my daughter."

And Brit's dad wasn't done with the harsh talk, as he then described Lutfi as a "predator... He's very dangerous to my daughter, controling. He causes her a lot of anguish and disbelief in her mind and that she's lost without him.

"While Adnan was neither present at the hearing, nor did he send legal representation, Sam's lawyer Brian Freedman maintained that his client is not a threat, that there's no evidence at this point that CityGal is indeed Sam or that his client had even called Britney in the first place.

During a break in the hearing, Freedman told OK! that restraining orders were "created for stalkers, but there isn't anything in Jamie's testimony or in the court papers that prove Sam and Britney even had one actual confirmed phone conversation. It's hard to prove 'harrassment' if you can't prove they've even talked once in 11 months."

Britney Sneaks Calls -- Daddy Pissed

The following italicized article is from www.tmz.com:

There's a hearing underway in the Britney Spears restraining order case against Sam Lutfi and Adnan Ghalib.

Daddy Jamie Spears is on the stand right now, explaining that Britney somehow got her hands on a pre-paid cell phone which caused him fits because they have been strictly monitoring the phones she's able to use.

The nanny heard Britney talking to Sam and Adnan on the pre-paid phone in the wee hours of the morning one day. It appears Jamie believes Sam and Adnan got her the phone in an attempt to poison her against Jamie and torpedo the conservatorship.

If Sam did have any contact with Britney, he would have violated a court order to stay the hell away from her.

Jamie is trying to make the temporary restraining order against the dynamic duo permanent.

Britney's Ex-Manager Fights Back Against Restraining Order

The following italicized article is from www.people.com:

A manager and confidante to Britney Spears when her life was at the peak of turmoil, Sam Lutfi insists that in these calmer days he's no threat to her safety.

Fighting back against a restraining order, Lutfi 34, not only denies he's been harassing Spears, but claims that it's been Spears reaching out to him – not the other way around, sending him text messages even though court orders forbid her from doing so.

"I don't think anyone would want to have on public record allegations of behavior that weren't committed," Lutfi's lawyer Bryan Freedman tells PEOPLE. "A restraining order to is protect someone against stalkers and people who want to commit violence, and that description doesn't fit my client."

In court documents filed Friday, Lutfi, 34, does admit that he's passed messages on to her through her hairdresser and others, including her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib, 36. But Lutfi argues that the messages weren't harmful in any way.

"I have not, in any alleged communications with Britney, her hairdresser or any other person, threatened any act of violence against Britney or her family," he states in the papers.

Lutfi's lawyer agues in the filing that the singer, 27, and her father haven't provided evidence that she's suffered emotional distress from Lutfi's indirect contact. As co-conservators, Jamie and lawyer Andrew Wallet hold indefinite control over her affairs since her two forced hospitalizations in early 2008.

In his request for the restraining orders, Jamie Spears accused Lutfi of working with Ghalib and a lawyer to "disrupt the conservatorship with utter disregard for Ms. Spears's health and well being," court documents show. Lutfi allegedly sent a text message to the hairdresser saying, "I've done everything I can to free her from [the conservatorship]. Very close to getting her free now."

Lutfi has since sued the Spears family for defamation and battery. Jamie Spears is set to testify at a 1:30 p.m. hearing on Monday to uphold the restraining order.

Lutfi: BS Stands For More Than Britney Spears

The following italicized article is from www.tmz.com:

Sam Lutfi is fighting back against Britney Spears' permanent restraining order against him, saying he never threatened her in any way.

Spears got a temporary restraining order last month claiming Lufti threatened to expose Spears family secrets, which they say have no basis in reality.

Sam claims in legal papers, "I have not, in any alleged communications with Britney, her hairdresser or any other person, threatened any act of violence against Britney or her family."

It's a confusing statement, because Brit never accused Sam of threatening violence

.Lutfi claims he received anonymous text messages saying Jamie Spears was about to release a letter written by Brit "making serious accusations" against him.

Sam says he called Jamie to discuss the letter.

The Spears clan didn't see it that way, especially since Lufti was supposed to cease all contact with Brit.

UPDATE: An L.A. judge just extended the restraining order against Sam, Adnan Ghalib and Jon Eardley until Wednesday, so Poppa Spears could have time to testify.

Mel Gibson: Spears Dad Pulled Her Through Breakdown

The 'Braveheart' actor phoned the pop star to offer her advice while she was struggling through her recent problems.

He said: "She's a nice kid. She was just going through a rough patch. You see kids that you know in the industry... I just felt like this poor kid she's lining up to be stoned. I just thought, 'I wonder if anyone is reaching out to her', so I just called her and she's doing great now."

Britney's public meltdown saw her shave her head in February 2007 and culminated in her being hospitalised in January 2008 and losing custody of her two sons Sean Preston, three, and Jayden James, two.

She has since got her career and life back on track and is to embark on her new 33-date tour 'Circus' on March 3.

Despite his friendship with Britney, Mel - who invited the 27-year-old star to holiday with his family in Costa Rica last March - does not take any credit for helping the 'Womanizer' singer out of her troubled spell.

He told US TV talk show host Jimmy Kimmel: "It's got nothing to do with me. She pulled herself out of this, and her dad - he's the real hero."

The 53-year-old Hollywood actor also revealed his regret at not helping actor Heath Ledger before his tragic death in January last year from an accidental drug overdose.

He said: "I should have called him years before. I didn't really know the ins and outs of what was up with him, but I don't believe it was just an accident. Maybe, I could have called him. When you see sort of an impending tragedy that might go wrong, it just felt like I should do something about it."

Heath won the best supporting actor Oscar last night (22.02.09) for his role in 'The Dark Knight' - which he was working on at the time of his death.

Britney To Make $100 Million Of 'Circus' Tour

The following italicized article is from www.dailystar.co.uk:

BRITNEY Spears will spend a mind-blowing $7.2million on staff this year.

But the pop babe will make $100million with her biggest tour in seven years.

Figures for the star show she pays dad Jamie a $200,000 salary.

He has run her finances since her 2007 meltdown.

Britney also pays $180,000 to her mum Lynne. Her manager Larry Rudolph, fired when she hit the skids then re-hired last year, gets the biggest slice of her income – up to $1.5million a year.

And eight bodyguards who work in shifts round the clock each earn $150,000, adding up to a personal security bill of $1.2million.

Britney pays ex-husband Kevin Federline $480,000 a year, made up of $20,000 per month in “spousal support” and $15,000 a month on nannies for their sons Preston, three, and Jayden, two.

Federline, 30, will also get a $5,000-a-week “bonus” for letting the kids join Britney, 27, on legs of her Circus tour which kicks off in New Orleans on March 3. When the massive show hits the road, Britney’s staff wage bill will soar to $616,000 a month.

At the height of her problems her income fell to $737,000 per month.

She blew $60million in her 18 months of turmoil and it’s believed her crew on tour now includes a psychiatrist.

Another constant companion will be $100,000-a-year assistant Brett Miller.

But gone will be the hangers-on including “lifestyle guru” Sam Lutfi and paparazzo ex-boyfriend Adnan Ghalib, both of whom are the subjects of court restraining orders.

A member of her entourage said of Brit’s past problems: “She was literally throwing money away…unscrupulous people used her as a cash cow.”

Britney Spears Bans Victoria Prince From “Circus” Tour

The following italicized article is from www.popcrunch.com:

The Circus Starring Britney Spears could soon turn into a nightmare–with the pop tart threatening to pull the plug on her first world tour in more three years if her ex-husband brings his new girlfriend along for the ride.

Earlier this month, Britney, desperate to have her toddler sons Sean and Jayden on tour with her, agreed to front ex Kevin Federline $4,000 a week and his own tour bus to bring the boys along. But that could all go up in smoke over K-Fed’s plan to invite main squeeze Victoria Prince to accompany the family on the road.

“Britney doesn’t want Victoria on tour-period. She’s fooling the bill, and she wants to call the shots,” a source reveals in the March 2 edition of The National Enquirer. “Britney doesn’t want to see her boys reach out for Victoria.”

The 26-year-old professional volleyball player has become like a second mom to Britney and Kevin’s sons snce moving into the stay-at-home dad’s Tarzana, California home, tabloid tattles say.

“Victoria has been playing full-time mom to the boys since she quit her job at FOX Sports in January. She’s even skipped volleyball practices and games to be with Kevin and the boys.”

Assistent Mystery Solved

The following italicized article is from www.radaronline.com:

On the eve of her new tour, Britney Spears welcomed back an old face into the fold, re-hiring former assistant Felicia Culotta (who was working for The Jonas Brothers). But the move had Britney watchers wondering, what happened to her other assistant and constant companion Brett? Was this a sign of further turmoil in Spears land?

"Nothing is wrong, there is no chaos, [Brett] just took a vacation," a source confirms to RadarOnline.com exclusively. "The job is too much for one person. Felicia will handle more of the personal stuff and Brett will focus on the business side."

Culotta had parted ways with Spears in 2007. At the time, Culotta sent out an e-mail about the difficult separation saying, "I cannot convince her in ANY way to love herself...I cannot save her from herself." Culotta's ties to the family were so close that she often spent the holidays with them and was viewed as one of Britney's closest advisors and friends.

The Circus tour kicks off on March 3 in New Orleans.
