Danielle Steel Talks About Britney's Situation

In a rare interview, New York Times best-selling author DANIELLE STEEL comments on BRITNEY SPEARS' situation telling Reuters, "I feel so sorry for her."

Steel speaks from experience. Her son NICK was diagnosed at the age of 16 with bipolar disorder and committed suicide more than a decade ago at the age of 19.

"Usually bipolars present extremely well and they can bounce into court ... look very together and be a complete mess three hours later on the streets somewhere," she told Reuters at an event for the 10th anniversary of the creation of the Nick Traina Foundation. "There's nothing you can do."

In echoing the recent and widespread speculation regarding Britney, Steel suggests that her problems, "illustrate the drama and dilemma of the family of mentally ill people in this country -- it's a very, very tough thing."

But she says there is hope for the troubled pop star and her family. "If it is the case (that she has bipolar), she can get on track with the right treatment and medication," she says. "In the case of Britney Spears' parents what you have to be is extremely loving, extremely resourceful and extremely persistent and every time you're defeated, just go at the problem again."

What we know so far in a nutshell, is that Britney Spears checked out of the UCLA Medical centre earlier on today.

She immediately drove back to her home at The Summit before heading back out again with much apprehension of where she wanted to go, eventually settling on her trusted Beverly Hills Hotel.

Adnan, cars, lawyers, Century City, disappearing act blah blah blah, X17 pulling their hair out.....

Basically, Ghalib who was called directly by Britney upon her release, she had requested for Adnan to meet her at the Beverly Hills which he did, but unaware of the technicalities of her release. That people, at this moment remains the same. A mystery.

Lots of rumors.

Time will tell...

Adnan has been in contact with her parents previous to today’s events, and as the day has unraveled they have all agreed to get Britney safely back to her home so that she can get the medical care and love that she deserves.

We can reveal that Britney’s family, including Adnan are taking care of Miss Spears at The Summit and are all doing very well.

We hope and believe this is the true start of her recovery.

Update: After spending most of the evening with The Spears at The Summit Adnan left and went back home at 2.30am. This to give the family some alone time.

Britney Goes Ballistic In Psych Ward

Minutes ago, Britney Spears made two calls at the UCLA Psych Ward and went crazy on the phone after learning that her dad is now the conservator of her estate.

In a heavy British accent, a ballistic Brit screamed (about her parents), "I'm so sick of all of this they can have the goddamn house and stick it up their f**king asses. Actually, no they can't."

Brit, who sounded drugged up, was furious that her dad became a conservator of her estate. She was screaming at the top of her lungs, at times impossible to understand. At one point she screamed, "Nobody's taking my house. Who is my family?"

Britney said she did not want her parents near her home and at one point said she would go to court to fight them.

She is under the impression she's getting out of the hospital tonight.

Britney Being Evaluated Today - Will She Stay Or Will She Go?

An X17online source and former patient of the UCLA Medical Center tells us that as part of her treatment, Britney will be visited by four to five doctors today to conduct an evaluation of her mental state.

According to the source, Britney cannot be held against her will for more than 72 hours if she is deemed stable, which will be determined today. Apparently, only half of the patients in the psych ward are held involuntarily.

The results will be reported to the family, as well as the state. A Los Angeles County Officer is the only one who can determine whether or not Britney is ill enough to be held against her will, although her therapist can argue for a suspension of her driver's license.

Should Britney choose to stay and seek treatment on her own accord, she can expect to be enrolled in a four week recovery program, which consists of meetings and group therapy aimed at teaching her about her disease and how to control it.

Britney learned that Lynne has been in contact with Adnan these past few weeks and was furious over that ... Britney was suffering a mental breakdown. She's been under the care of Deborah Nadel this past week. After today's visit, the doctor felt Britney needed to be hopitalized.

Me: So Nadel suggested the hospitalization?

Sam: Yes, Deborah did.

Me: Is Brit going to stay at UCLA for a while?

Sam: A few days at least.

Me: Was she asleep when they brought her in? Did she go willingly?

Sam: Wasn't asleep. Went willingly.

Me: Why did her mom rush to the house? Who called her? Seemed like an emergency. Did the doc really think Brit would hurt herself?

Sam: No, doc was concerned more about the driving. Not suicide.

Me: And why was she not sleeping the past two days? A manic episode?

Sam: Yes.

That was it -- I had to sleep for a couple hours.

But the battle between Lynne and Sam seems to rage on.

Sam was supposedly the one who orchestrated Brit's reunion with her mom just months ago. At that time, Britney emailed me and said, "Sam brought me my momma. I'm happy."

It appears Sam and Lynne's relationship has since been strained ...

Britney Officially On Psychiatric Hold

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ a L.A. County Superior Court judge has just signed a "5150," meaning Britney Spears is on a three-day psychiatric hold at the UCLA Medical Center.

We're told there is a "good possibility" that it will be extended to 14 days. We've also learned there have been several parallel attempts to get Britney on a 5150. Her lawyers, Anne Kiley and Tara Scott, secured a new psychiatrist late last week -- he's the one who triggered the 5150 last night.

At the same time, we're told Britney's mother, father and brother have been "working closely with the LAPD for weeks" to get her back in for psychiatric care. There is now a dogfight between Britney's family and Sam Lutfi over who will make medical decisions, however, that fight is now put on hold because the judge now makes the call.

Once the psychiatric hold ends, something has to give.

Britney Being Treated For Her Disease

Multiple sources tell TMZ Britney has seen numerous doctors. We know that she's seen a new psychiatrist who has come to her home every day this week and that she's on medication to treat her bipolar disease. We also know doctors have indeed concluded she suffers from bipolarity.

Britney has seen doctors who have been referred by other doctors, plus doctors who have been referred by celebrities Britney knows, and doctors referred by her lawyers, family and friends. We're told the process has been excruciating for her, partly because her disease is severe.

Sources tell slightly different stories about the efficacy of the medication. A friend says when Britney takes her medicine she is like "a different person -- normal and sweet." But she takes her meds for a while and then feels as if she can live without it -- so she stops taking them -- and her condition quickly deteriorates. But a professional tells TMZ flatly, "The medication just isn't working."

That same professional tells TMZ, "She's really trying. Whether it works -- we'll have to see." That person also says it's extremely frustrating when the media shows video of Britney out on the town acting crazy, adding, "She has a disease. Sometimes when you see her she's in the middle of an episode. It's like mocking someone with Down syndrome."

Britney's Rocky Reunion with Her Mother

“Lynne, at one point said, 'I just want to give her a hug. I'm very worried," says a source. "Lynne was so nervous and worried, she just kept asking how they could get her daughter back home."

When the pop star did return home, Lynne, Britney and several friends including, Alli Sims and Sam Lutfi, had a "family bonding session over a lot of things," says the source.

But the family time does not seem to have changed Britney's behavior. On Tuesday afternoon, she and Lutfi visited a nearby J. Crew, where an onlooker described her as "totally out of it."

"She was talking in a slight accent. It was a little of a British accent," says the eyewitness. "She kept to herself, quiet, she just wanted to go. She really wanted some Bubblelicious gum and she kept asking Sam for it and got frustrated when he didn't have any. Her mood lifted when she found some in her bag."

Exclusive: Britney Hasn't Spoken To Her Kids In 20 Days

An insider says that although Britney and ex-husband Kevin Federline's interactions are “strained,” they still talk every few days, mostly about their sons. The 26-year-old pop star is taking the separation from her children hard, according to the insider, and her temper tantrums have continued to get worse. Kevin, 29, has been looking into both joint counseling for Britney and the boys and individual counseling for Britney.

The family insider says that at the custody hearing on Tuesday, Kevin was questioned about the boys well-being and he reported to the court that the boys are doing well and are happy. Kevin is also said to be planning to ask for his financial arrangement with Britney to be amended because his expenses for child care and security have substantially increased now that he has full custody of his sons.

While the world continues to be baffled as to why Britney keeps showing up at court only to back out at the last minute, her family has their own theories. The family insider tells PageSix.com that Brit’s mom believes that the singer’s control issues are keeping her out of court. “Lynne thinks Britney is afraid of facing people she sees as having to much control over her life,” the insider says.

Kevin is said to be disappointed that Britney failed to appear in court on Tuesday but “he is beginning to understand that she has an emotional issue with it.”

“The entire experience is scary for her,” the insider explains. “Britney has panic attacks when she has to go to court. She really does love the boys, and wants to make sure she can see them, but her fear keeps her from doing what she knows she should."

Britney's Pap Pal Surprised by Restraining Order Rumor

According to one of the photographers, Lutfi said that they'd filed a request for a restraining order against Ghalib because they want him "out of Britney's life."

"Britney asked us to leave the cameras in the car, and
 she poured some champagne for us. She was very sweet," said one of the photographers. "Sam was telling us to not worry about Adnan because they have filed a restraining order against 
him."

The Los Angeles police department says they are "not aware" of any emergency protective orders issued against Ghalib. The L.A. Sheriff's department also says no order was issued.

The Irwins Want To Help Britney
