GMA Performance Details
We'd better be, since -- ready or not -- the 29-year-old megastar pop vocalist is headed our way. She's set to perform a free concert on Sunday in San Francisco's Castro neighborhood, which will then be aired two days later — on Tuesday — on ABC-TV's "Good Morning America."
Here's what you need to know if you plan on watching what could turn out to be the biggest local pop-culture event of the season:
Showtime: Brit Brit will take the stage at noon for a one-hour show. The concert -- or, at least, some portion of it will then be aired on Tuesday's "Good Morning America." The show runs 7-9 a.m. on ABC-TV (local affiliate is KGO).
Concert site: Spears will be performing on a stage erected in front of the historic Castro Theatre. The audience will assemble in a two-block section of Castro Street. Specifically, it will gather in the 400 and 500 blocks, which covers from Market to 19th streets. This area will be closed to traffic.
Cost: It's free, and admission will be granted the old-fashioned way -- first come, first served.
Crowd size: A capacity limit has not been set, according to the office of Supervisor Scott Wiener, whose district includes the Castro. The final say on the topic belongs to members of the San Francisco Police Department, who will be on site to determine when the crowd has reached an appropriate size. At that point, no more people will be allowed into the concert area.
When to arrive for concert: The gates will open at 9 a.m. Fans are being told to line up no earlier than 8 a.m. There's no official word, however, on just how that directive will be enforced.
Where to line up: There will be two entrances to the roped-off concert venue -- at the northwest and northeast corners of Castro and 18th (the 400 block of Castro). The 400 block will be filled first, and then organizers will begin populating the 500 block.
If you don't get in: The "official" performance space is that two-block area of Castro Street, but many others will enjoy the show from just beyond the "velvet" ropes. The concert will be heard, if not seen, from blocks away. So, expect to see fans on the sidewalk along the 600 block of Castro -- as well as further afield. And, of course, the concert will be broadcast on TV two days later, when you can easily find a prime spot on your couch.
Traffic impact: The 400 and 500 blocks of Castro, from Market to 19th streets, will be closed to traffic beginning at roughly midnight Saturday to 4 or 5 p.m. Sunday. Bus lines 24, 33, 35 and F will be rerouted during the closure.
Business impact: Businesses in the Castro will be open during the concert.
Why Britney is doing this: The Castro appearance is part of a major marketing blitz surrounding the singer's seventh studio album, "Femme Fatale," which hits stores Tuesday.
Why the Castro is doing this: It's good publicity for both San Francisco and the Castro, according to Wiener, since some 10 million people watch "Good Morning America."

New Report: Britney To Attend The Grammy's

Jewellery designer DARA DUBINET has designed a $27,000 (GBP18,000) black Chinese agate rock ring for BRITNEY SPEARS to wear to the Grammy Awards in February (09).
Dubinet started work on the huge gem after she spotted Spears wearing a Tourmaline ring she had created and sent to the pop star when she appeared on U.S. morning show Good Morning America on her 27th birthday in December (08).
The designer tells Life + Style magazine she was told Spears "loved" her birthday gift.
And a source tells the publication, "She's worn it several times, She says it has a positive energy, and it just makes her smile."

Britney Spears Goes Christmas Caroling With Ellen DeGeneres

Britney Spears and Ellen DeGeneres spread a little holiday cheer in L.A. last Friday.
The singer - who just turned 27 last week - and the talk show host hit the street in old-fashioned dresses to sing a few Christmas Carols.
Spears donned a festive red crushed velvet hoop gown, tartan shawl and bonnet for the outing, while DeGeneres chose a mistletoe-topped bonnet and green crushed velvet outfit. Both wore white gloves and big smiles.
The segment airs on The Ellen DeGeneres show Dec. 16.
Spears has been busy making her comeback.
On Dec. 2, she released her sixth studio album, Circus, and celebrated her 27th birthday at NYC's Tenjune nightclub. Earlier that day, she sang her hit tunes "Circus" and "Womanizer" on Good Morning America
She spent the week before that performing in Germany, France and England.

Britney’s Manager: ‘She’s In Full Control, Nobody Is Telling Her What To Do’

Following a stunning performance on “Good Morning America” Tuesday and a star-studded lavish birthday bash later that night, not to mention a record release, there is no doubt that Britney is back – she even has “the eye of the tiger back,” according to her manager.
But is the Brit media frenzy too much too soon for a pop star who was hospitalized just 11 months ago? Not according to Larry.
“This has been a gradual process. It just didn’t happen over night,” Larry told Billy. “She’s in a great place. She is very happy with what she is doing. She’s being incredibly productive. She’s looking good and she’s feeling good.”
Despite her permanent conservatorship that placed dad Jamie Spears in control of Britney’s legal and financial decisions, Larry squashed any notion that people other than Britney are making her decisions.
“Nothing is happening that’s not at her request or her comfort level. She’s doing what she loves to do, and it’s making her very happy,” Larry continued. “She’s in full control, nobody is telling her what to do. If at any moment she said, ‘I don’t want to do this.’ That’s what would happen.”
But don’t expect the current Brit frenzy to fizzle anytime soon. Larry told Billy that Britney is planning to rehearse every day for two months straight in order to prepare for her tour, “The Circus starring Britney Spears” 2009, that kicks off in New Orleans on March 3, 2009.
“We are going to bring the circus to town,” Larry added. “It is [going to be] just amazing… this is going to be the best Britney show ever, by far. It’s going to be a don’t miss show.”

Britney Was Never Scheduled To Perform At Rockefeller Center Tree-Lighting

Despite a rousing performance on “Good Morning America” of her hit single, “Womanizer,” and online reports that Britney Spears had pulled out of a scheduled live performance for the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree-lighting ceremony, Access Hollywood has learned that the pop star was never scheduled to perform live.
A NBC source told Access Hollywood that Britney was never due to perform at the festive holiday event. Instead Britney pre-taped an appearance for the NBC special, which takes place tonight.
Live performers scheduled for tonight include Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Beyonce, Stephen Colbert, The Muppets, and more.
The pop star’s appearance is just one of the many events keeping her busy this week. On Tuesday, her sixth studio album, “Circus” was released, coinciding with her 27th birthday.
Britney celebrated with a circus themed extravaganza at New York City’s Tenjune nightclub with fellow celebs Lance Bass, Heidi Klum, Ciara, Jeremy Piven, Will.i.Am, Russell Simmons, Josh Lucas, and Wade Robson.
Britney’s mom Lynne Spears, dad Jamie Spears, and manager Larry Rudolph were also in attendance.

Britney Spears Lights Up New York City
Britney Spears was on hand last evening to help the City of New York light the Xmas tree at Rockefeller Center for a pre-taped event that will air on the live TV special featuring Beyoncé, Jamie Foxx and more on NBC tonight. As you may recall, Britney got her day off to an early start yesterday when she appeared on Good Morning America in the early AM and it looks like she just kept on going. Here are a few pics of Britney (looking absolutely gorgeous) taping a segment at the Rockefeller Center New York City Tree Lighting Ceremony event last night and some info on the NBC special that airs later on tonight:
Rockefeller Center is about to get a lot brighter. On Wednesday evening, the 76th Christmas tree-lighting ceremony will be held in midtown. The eight-ton 72-foot Norway spruce will be illuminated at 8:58 p.m. in the center’s plaza near the skating rink and the gilded statue depicting Prometheus bringing fire to mankind. The tree, which is 40 feet round, has been decorated with 30,000 energy-efficient LED lights on 5 miles of wire, topped with a massive crystal star. It was donated by the Varanyak family in Hamilton Twp., N.J. Beyonce, Tony Bennett, Harry Connick, Jr., and Jamie Foxx are among the entertainers scheduled to perform. While the first official lighting was in 1933, the first Rockefeller Center Christmas tree was put up two years earlier during the Depression in the mud by workers building the Art Deco complex. Among those expected to attend the ceremony is a Pascagoula, Miss., family whose new home was built in part with lumber from last year’s Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, an 84-foot-tall Norway spruce. Tracey Davison and her four young daughters were displaced by Hurricane Katrina. They had moved into their first apartment just two days before the storm nearly destroyed their neighborhood near the Gulf Coast. Subsequently, Davison, a 40-year-old assistant teacher, and her daughters, with a few suitcases and bags in tow, lived in a friend’s home, at her brother’s, in a docked cruise ship and a Federal Emergency Management Agency trailer. Then Davison and Ashunti, 10, Nylah, 9, Majsa, 8, and Karly, 4, were chosen to receive a new Habitat for Humanity home that former President Jimmy Carter, among others, helped build, Davison said. The three-bedroom baby blue home was finished in September and the family moved in a couple of weeks ago. Davison says she pays a “very affordable” mortgage. Lumber from last year’s Rockefeller Center tree was used to build two-by-fours that were placed in the walls and floors in the home’s living room, Davison said. “It’s kinda like Christmas before Christmas,” Davison said after arriving in New York City. “It was a dream come true. We’re very very excited to be in the house.”
Aww … it sounds like a really great event this year. I’m glad that Britney was able to be a part of it (methinks that Brit Brit will be flying back to SoCal sometime today, which is why she won’t be on the live special tonight — I understand that she will be appearing live on The Ellen DeGeneres Show tomorrow, tho). I managed to make my way up to Rockefeller Center Monday afternoon and I got to see the massive unlit tree. The tree and the ice skating are two of the most beloved Xmas traditions that NYC has to offer … at this point, it really is beginning to look a lot like Xmas. OY!

Britney Spears: Inside Her New York Birthday Party

Britney Spears can't stop turning 27—or at least celebrating it, anyway.
Not only did she have a candle-covered cake at a London nightclub on Saturday, but just this morning she was serenaded by celebs like Hugh Jackman after her "Womanizer" performance on Good Morning America.
And as I type this, the doors are about to open for her big circus-themed bash at New York's Tenjune nightclub.
Heidi Klum, Lance Bass and Lipstick Jungle's hot guy Rob Buckley are already there, and the lady of honor should be arriving in the next hour or so. But I've already got some VIP details for you.
Inside, according to a partygoer, the place is done up like a circus tent with a hot-dog stand and popcorn and cotton-candy machines emblazoned with the pop star's name. And outside, there's a huge screen projecting circus imagery.
There's even a dude on stilts.
If you haven't heard by now, Brit-Brit's new album is called Circus.
Make sure to click back later for more details. No doubt the party will be going until the wee hours.

OK! Exclusive: Inside Britney's Diva-Licious Birthday

Is Britney Spears starting to crack under the pressure?
Following a pair of performances on Good Morning America on Tuesday morning, the superstar birthday girl was back to her some of her old diva tricks as she arrived more than an hour late to shoot her pre-taped segment for the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at NYC's Rockefeller Center.
"You have no idea how many times Britney has changed things on us, at least 14 times since I got here on Thursday," a source connected to the TV special tells OK!. "It is Britney Spears and she can do that because they want her to boost ratings, but no one is happy putting up with this. I probably shouldn't say this, but guys on the crew were making bets about whether she would show up at all."
One eyewitness tells OK! that Britney had been scheduled to appear live on Wednesday night's broadcast, but that plan was ultimately scrapped in favor of a pre-taped "message."
"She was originally supposed to perform live and then she wanted to pre-tape her performance instead," the source says. "Then she didn't want to do that. She keeps changing her mind and now she's not performing at all."
Following her delayed appearance at Rockefeller Plaza, where it took multiple takes for Britney to record her "Happy Holidays" message, it was off to the Rainbow Room high atop 30 Rock.
Looking elegant in a sexy black dress with her hair swept up, Brit and an entourage of 11, including her manager Larry Rudolph, her assistant, security guards, parents Jamie and Lynne Spears and her boys Sean Preston and Jayden James, sat at a table overlooking Manhattan.
An eyewitness tells OK! that the group dined on carpachio for appetizers and later ate salad, risotto and had a choice of chicken or beef from a pre-set menu.
At one point, Jayden started crying and Britney pulled the toddler on to her lap.
"Jayden kept screaming 'Daddy', it was so sad," the eyewitness tells OK!. "She asked for a high chair. Jayden was throwing a tantrum so Britney picked him up and walked outside. As she did, she literally snapped her fingers at her security guards who immediately got up and followed her outside."
Nanny to the rescue! After failed attempts to calm her son down, Brit finally handed him off to a nanny who quickly left the restaurant.
In the meantime, Britney's other son, Sean Preston, was having a great old time sitting happily next to his grandma, Lynne. Towards the end of the night, servers brought out a giant triple layer chocolate cake with berries and everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to Britney. The table then enjoyed a round of celebratory bellinis.
"Britney ate only the smallest bite of her birthday cake!" the eyewitness tells OK!. "She must be on a strict diet."

Britney’s 27th ‘Circus’ Birthday

Britney Spears celebrated her 27th birthday doing what her fans love to see her do most — performing.
The pop star continued her comeback with an appearance on “Good Morning America” Tuesday morning at the Big Apple Circus tent at New York’s Lincoln Center.
Britney, who was dressed as a ringmaster, made a grand entrance on a circus wagon with jugglers, clowns and performers in animal costumes accompanying her, before performing her hit single, “Womanizer.”
The pop star’s festive appearance coincides with the release of her sixth studio album, “Circus.”
“GMA” host Robin Roberts noted that Brit’s appearance was “our concert event of the year.”
Robin’s co-host, Diane Sawyer, agreed, saying, “There are about a gazillion people [here].”
The “gazillion” people included Brit’s sons, Preston and Jayden, and her mom, Lynne Spears and brother Bryan.
And it wasn’t only just family wishing Britney a happy birthday. During the broadcast, a slew of stars, including Taylor Swift, John Travolta, Nicollette Sheridan, Teri Hatcher, Reese Witherspoon and Hugh Jackman – who sang “Happy Birthday” to the pop star – sent well wishes to Britney via taped greetings.
“You look great,” Reese said to Brit, “and I hope you have a great day.”
Robin and Diane ended the celebration by surprising Brit with a circus-themed birthday cake.

Britney Spears Wows Fans, Family With 'Good Morning America' Birthday Performance

Britney Spears kicked off her 27th birthday Tuesday (December 2) not just with the release of her Circus album, but with a performance on "Good Morning America." Fans lined up in Times Square, where the mini concert was held, hoping for the opportunity to catch a glimpse of Britney in person.
The performance found Britney decked out in her Circus gear: midriff-baring shirt, a ringmaster jacket and top hat, and she alternated between hot pants and a pair of body-hugging leather pants. Brit and a group of dancers, jugglers and performers dressed as circus animals performed two songs from the album: the title track and "Womanizer," which also were featured in the singer's documentary, "For the Record," which premiered on MTV Sunday night and is re-airing throughout the week.
Spears also announced her world tour dates, which will begin in her home state of Louisiana on March 3, 2009. The Pussycat Dolls will be the supporting act.
Fans were cheering so loudly that Britney said she couldn't hear a thing. "That's so sweet," she said. "Thank you!" During the show, celebrities including Hugh Jackman, Reese Witherspoon, John Travolta and Taylor Swift sent the pop star birthday wishes, and "GMA" hosts Robin Roberts and Diane Sawyer presented her with a birthday cake.
Also in attendance were Britney's young sons, Jayden James and Sean Preston, and her mom, Lynne.
"They were cheering her on, they were excited! They were so cute," said fan Emily Rehm, who, along with friend Giffy Rahini, was seated two rows behind Britney's family at the performance. "[Britney's set] was so amazing. It was awesome."
"It was incredible, better than what I expected," said Dayna Caerafice, who was with her friend Jessica Mullen. "It was hot. It was amazing."
"[She looked] better than she's ever looked before," the friends said. "She just looked amazing." The duo, who got there at 6 a.m., even made special T-shirts to show their support for Britney, although they were less than pleased with the results. "Well, my printer was having a mishap," Mullen joked, displaying the shirt. "This was her face, but it's not anymore."
Three other fans, who traveled from Maryland and Washington, D.C., to attend Spears' big "GMA" performance, told MTV News that the experience was well worth the effort. "It was great. It was my first time ever seeing her live," said Jamal Jolly, who was with friends Anthony Johnson Jr. and William Jefferson. "Britney's back!"
