Jamie Lynn Spears Spends 17th Birthday Without Family

Pregnant Jamie Lynn Spears celebrated her 17th birthday quietly with just fiance Casey Aldridge in Mississippi, while the rest of her family went out across the country in Brentwood, California.

Jamie Lynn hit up a local Wal-Mart and Ruby Tuesday restaurant just outside Kentwood, while big sis Britney, brother Bryan and his girlfriend, Lynne and Jamie dined with a group at Italian restaurant Peppone in Brentwood.

There was no mention of Jamie Lynn or the fact that it was her birthday at the Spears family dinner, an eyewitness told Usmagazine.com.

"Britney was beautiful and happy," adds the onlooker, who said she acted "very polite and composed.

"She was giggling with her friend and having a wonderful time."

Throughout dinner, the singer, 26, "was talking most to her brother Bryan, whom she seems to be close to. He seemed protective of her and shielded her from the rest of the restaurant."

After the meal, the family — carrying doggy bags — returned to Britney's Beverly Hills home.

Just two years ago, the Spears family celebrated Jamie Lynn's birthday at an Italian restaurant called Divino — across the street from last night's gathering.

Will Britney Ever Get the Boys Overnight?

"Britney's progress over the last two months is good," admits an unlikely source — Mark Vincent Kaplan, attorney for Brit's ex-hubby Kevin Federline — exclusively to OK!. "But it's premature to say that two months shows a pattern of consistency."

So what is it going to take — outside of a court order — for K-Fed to let Brit-Brit have the boys for a weekend? "We need to see a steady, consistent trend of behavior for a while," explains Kaplan. "The goal is consistency over time with nothing at all out of the ordinary."

Barring any emergency hearings, the next court date is May 6, though Kaplan tells OK! that he anticipates the custody battle will likely go all the way to a trial that will probably take place some time in September.

And once again, Kaplan insist's that his client his client does want Britney to be involved in the boys' lives. "Kevin's goal involves primary custody but also involves his desire to see Britney become, over time, a solid and substantial figure in her boys' lives," he tells OK!. "And she is inching toward that."

Here's hoping that, for everyone's sake, Britney continues on the path toward having the boys back in her life.
