Britney's Dad Named Permanent Conservator of Her Affairs

The following italicized article is from www.people.com:

Britney Spears's father, Jamie, has been named permanent conservator of his daughter's affairs, a Los Angeles court ruled on Tuesday. He was also named permanent co-conservator of her estate, along with an attorney, Andrew Wallet.

"I've met several times with [Britney] and she requested that I not object to the permanent conservatorship," the singer's court-appointed lawyer Samuel Ingham said in open court.

Commissioner Reva Goetz stated that the permanent conservatorship was "necessary and appropriate.

"Experts say, however, that the permanent status doesn't necessarily mean forever. "

People shouldn't read too much into the word 'permanent'" explains Terry K. Wasserman, a mental health lawyer not involved with this case. "In many cases, it's just a formality to avoid having to renew a temporary status over and over again."

A source close to Spears concurs, saying, "This is by no means something that's going to last forever. The conservatorship being made permanent in name is primarily to ensure increased time with her children, and provide support for her music and work goals."

Adds Wasserman: "Ms. Spears can regain control of her life anytime – as long as her doctors feel she's able to manage her own affairs."

Britney Spears Is Too Hot For TV

The following italicized article is from www.entertainmentwise.com:

Britney Spears has been told by TV executives to keep her comeback performance clean for US audiences.

After getting back on track in recent months with a trim, toned figure and a steamy new video, the princess of pop is gearing up for her first live performance in over a year.

But according to reports the show she had planned on Good Morning America is a little too risque for prime time TV.

The appearance was set to include heavy duty S&M and some of Britney's trademark grinding.

But it seems the former troubled star will be keeping her moves squeaky clean.

Britney Under Permanent Conservatorship

The following italicized article is from www.tmz.com:

Lawyers in the Britney Spears conservatorship case have just asked the court commissioner to make her conservatorship permanent. And the judge said she would grant the request.

The conservatorship was scheduled to end on December 31.

Sources say one reason why Brit & Co. wanted to extend the conservatorship is that it makes it easier for her to regain custody of her kids -- the family law commissioner will feel more comfortable giving her added face time if there is a safety net.

The conservators will now also be responsible for handling her business affairs and career opportunities.

As for why they suddenly asked for a permanent conservatorship -- we're told the commish doesn't want to keep extending temporary power...that it makes more sense to make the conservatorship permanent and then just lift it when Brit is safe and sound.

Under the permanent conservatorship a medical team will oversee Britney's career to make sure what she does will not compromise her mental health.

The commish said, "The conservatorship is necessary and appropriate for the complexity of financial and business entities and her being susceptible to undue influence."

Britney Agrees to Permanent Conservatorship, Puts Regaining Custody in Doubt

The following italicized article is from www.eonline.com:

Britney Spears may be comebacking like a madwoman, but the court thinks she can still use some guidance on that road to redemption.

The popster's conservatorship arrangement with father Jamie Spears was made permanent today, with no objection coming from the 26-year-old "Womanizer" warbler. If the terms of the deal remain the same, her dad will continue to oversee her estate, finances, legal affairs and medical care along with attorney Andrew Wallet.

"The court finds the proposed permanent conservatorship is necessary and appropriate," said Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz, who has been presiding over the Spears saga for the past year, at a Tuesday status hearing.

And while Britney was no fan of the arrangement back when it was imposed Feb. 1, her attorney informed the court today that his client had requested he not argue with Goetz's ruling, despite the fact that it's very unlikely Spears will be able to regain custody of her two sons while her dad is in charge.

"It certainly makes it more difficult to gain custody of the children because if one court found that she is not capable of taking care of herself and affairs than how is the other court going to find her able to take care of the affairs of two babies," certified family law specialist Alexandra Leichter tells E! News.

The conservatorship seems to have been made permanent because "the condition that apparently caused temporary conservatorship did not change," she said.

Britney memorably lost control of her affairs following her hospitalization Jan. 31 on a 5150 hold, meaning she was considered a danger to herself or others. The involuntary R&R came after months of erratic, worrisome behavior on the popster's part.

"The burden now shifts to Britney Spears or her conservator [Spears' father] to prove that she is perfectly capable, rather than the conservator having to prove that she is not capable," says Leichter.

"If the court makes it a permanent order, she would have to come into court and show that she no longer needs it."

Not that permanent means forever.

"The permanent conservatorship doesn't have a set date to expire," court public information spokeswoman Vania Stuelp tells E! News.

"In order to make it go away, someone has to petition the court. It was supposed to expire on Dec. 31. It's not anymore."

In the meantime, an evaluation detailing Spears' psychological fortitude has been completed and will remain sealed, Goetz said. Another status hearing has been set for Dec. 22.

But while this may all be as-expected news for Britney's camp, it doesn't bode well for the lawsuit against her filed by former manager Johnny Wright.

Saying that Spears' "capacity issue remains open and has not been resolved one way or another," Goetz ruled earlier today that Wright's attorneys are not allowed to depose Spears, whom he says owes thousands in unpaid commissions, until the conservatorship ends.

"We think it's reasonable," Wright's lawyer, Clay Townsend, who had been hoping to have Brit sit for a deposition Nov. 17, tells E! News. "Being on the cover of OK magazine, signing a big contract with AEG to go on a world tour, going on Good Morning America—gosh, it seems fairly reasonable to try to do a deposition in late November. It's not like she is in the hospital and we are dying to go down and take her deposition."

Instead, they will have to speak with ruler-of-the-roost Jamie Spears next month.

"She seemed to be doing so well, that we thought it was not unreasonable," Townsend added. "My client Johnny Wright still has great affection for Britney. He worked with Britney for a long time in the early days. So that last thing that we would want to do was to harass her."

Goetz said that she will revisit the deposition issue Feb. 2.

Judge Postpones Decision On Britney Spears Conservatorship

The following italicized article is from www.accesshollywood.com:

A Los Angeles Judge today put off further discussion about when Britney Spears might resume her life, free of a court-ordered conservatorship.

The decision came as a result of a wrinkle that appeared in the case on Tuesday, revealing how Spears’ complex legal matters remain unresolved when she is not allowed to testify about them.

The latest development in the singer’s conservatorship saga came as a result of a business relationship between Spears and entertainment executive Johnny Wright. Attorneys for Wright were in court based on an ongoing Florida lawsuit with her former manager Wright regarding what appears to be a contract dispute.

In order for the suit to go forward, they wanted Spears to sit for a deposition.

Wright’s lead attorney, arguing via speakerphone, said “We have seen appearances where she seems to be doing so good.”

But Spears’ father Jamie, who is one of the executors of her estate, filed an ex-parte motion stating Britney is not ready to undergo a deposition.

Judge Reva Goetz ruled in favor of a protective order for Spears, saying, “The capacity issue remains open.”

A new date of February 2, 2009 has been set to re-visit the deposition. Britney remains under the conservatorship until at least the end of this year.

Miley on Britney and Lindsay

The following italicized article is from www.okmagazine.com:

After hearing what was surely a first-time question about how she feels about being compared to Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, Miley Cyrus showed she's pretty savvy when it comes to dealing with the media.

"I think they are both really talented and, I don't know about around here, but at the Video Music Awards and everything, Britney Spears has been taking all the awards home and has really had quite a comeback," the tween sensation told reporters in Germany while on tour for her new album, Breakout.

Being careful to keep the praise limited to their activities onstage and onscreen, the Hannah Montana star went on to heap on the praise a little thicker.

"So, I just think that they are super successful, and hopefully when I am compared to them, it's them [...] career-wise because they have all been super successful and had amazing careers and they are both really talented."

Only time shall tell, Miley, especially with that 20-year-old boytoy of yours!

Live from New York: It's Britney?

The following italicized article is from www.celebuzz.com:

Spreading her comeback across the board, it looks as though Britney Spears will revisit a touchstone in her career: hosting Saturday Night Live.

A source tells Celebuzz that on Saturday, November 22, Spears will have her third go at hosting the sketch show.

Eight years ago, at 18 years old, Britney became the youngest person in history to both host and perform on the same episode.

Spears returned to play ringmaster to Saturday Night in 2002.

The cast of repertory players currently includes Andy Samberg, new mother Amy Poehler and Kristen Wiig.

None of them will be in quite so physically toned as Britney.

UPDATE:

Representatives from NBC have officially denied to Celebuzz that Britney Spears will either host or perform on the November 22 episode of Saturday Night Live.

Britney's own people have neither denied or confirmed rumors that she will be on the show.

However, Britney's new album, Circus, is due to drop next month; so from a marketing viewpoint, a brisk song and dance on Saturday Night would go a long way.

Plus New Music Tipsheet is not afraid to list Britney Spears as scheduled to appear on the November 22 SNL.

This story is still working. Stay tuned for details as they develop.

No one is exempt from parking tickets these days, and that includes Britney Spears and her entourage!

Brit's driver parked her white Escalade outside of the International Dance Academy last night, but apparently not in a legit spot. We caught the parking enforcement officer as he ticketed the vehicle, and he seemed pretty amused when photogs informed him that it was Miss Spears' SUV.

Britney Spears Gears Up For Circus Tour With Online Workout Video

The following italicized article is from www.mtv.com:

Don't just take Britney Spears' word that she's planning a major comeback, go to the tape. In keeping with her promise to give fans an inside scoop on her attempt to get her career back on track with her upcoming Circus album, Spears posted a video on her site on Monday of the grueling five-times-a-week workout sessions she's been sweating through to get in shape for an expected tour.

"Now that Britney's bangin' bod is back, we've been wondering how she managed to get so toned so fast!" the site's webmaster wrote. "Well, no secrets here. We've got an exclusive video from Britney's home gym so you can see for yourself!" In the video, Spears can be seen working out with her trainer, the mysteriously named Seven, during one of their sessions. As her own "Gimme More" thumps in the background, the singer, wearing striped hot pants and a tank top, can be seen working on her lats, back, triceps, biceps and shoulders in the short clip that was shot in her home gym, which is tricked out with giant gilded mirrors, a coat of arms and more weights than the typical hotel workout room.

According to the post, Brit has already moved past these sessions to "intense" dance rehearsals "many" times per week — with photographic proof, of course.

The site also now features a video of Britney's dance troupe celebrating the 10th anniversary of her breakthrough hit, "... Baby One More Time," and news that the singer is going to celebrate her 27th birthday on December 2 by performing tracks from Circus on "Good Morning America."

Brit's Show Too Rude For TV

The following italicized article is from www.thesun.co.uk:

BRITNEY has got her body back – but her plans to flaunt it have hit a snag.

The back-in-shape star has booked her first live performance in more than a year for December 2, on TV show Good Morning America.

She had planned to celebrate that day’s release of album Circus with a trademark raunchy performance with a heavy S&M theme.

But TV bosses stepped in and demanded she tone it down for a family audience.

I suppose we’ll just have to wait until the tour for the raunchier stuff.
