'Circus' Sells 219,000 Copies On The First Day

The following Italicized article is from www.billboard.com:

Britney Spears' sixth studio album, "Circus," is on track to debut at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 next week, as the Jive set will lead Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart when it is released later today (Dec. 3).

Unweighted first-day sales of "Circus" through the close of business yesterday stood at 219,000. Billboard estimates the eight merchants who report to Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart -- Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Circuit City, iTunes, Starbucks, Borders, Target and Anderson Merchandisers -- comprise about 80% of all U.S. album sales.

Sources close to the project suggest that "Circus" could move as much as 400,000 in its first week.

If "Circus" arrives atop the tally, it will be Spears' fifth No. 1 album. Among female artists, only four have racked up more chart-toppers: Barbra Streisand (eight), Madonna (seven) and Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson (both with six).

Spears' last release, 2007's "Blackout," bowed at No. 2 with 290,000 behind the debut of Eagles' "Long Road Out of Eden" (711,000).

Britney Was Never Scheduled To Perform At Rockefeller Center Tree-Lighting

The following Italicized article is from www.accesshollywood.com:

Despite a rousing performance on “Good Morning America” of her hit single, “Womanizer,” and online reports that Britney Spears had pulled out of a scheduled live performance for the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree-lighting ceremony, Access Hollywood has learned that the pop star was never scheduled to perform live.

A NBC source told Access Hollywood that Britney was never due to perform at the festive holiday event. Instead Britney pre-taped an appearance for the NBC special, which takes place tonight.

Live performers scheduled for tonight include Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Beyonce, Stephen Colbert, The Muppets, and more.

The pop star’s appearance is just one of the many events keeping her busy this week. On Tuesday, her sixth studio album, “Circus” was released, coinciding with her 27th birthday.

Britney celebrated with a circus themed extravaganza at New York City’s Tenjune nightclub with fellow celebs Lance Bass, Heidi Klum, Ciara, Jeremy Piven, Will.i.Am, Russell Simmons, Josh Lucas, and Wade Robson.

Britney’s mom Lynne Spears, dad Jamie Spears, and manager Larry Rudolph were also in attendance.

'Circus' To Sell More Then 450.000 Copies

The following Italicized article is from www.hitsdailydouble.com:

Britney might not want to call her latest release a comeback, but whatever you dub it, her new Jive/ZLG album Circus is soaring past all expectations.

Thanks to a barrage of good publicity for a change, the pop star, who just celebrated her 27th birthday yesterday with a performance on ABC’s Good Morning America, will debut at #1 on next week’s HITS Album Sales chart with a total that seems to be in excess of 450k, and very capable of climbing even higher.

According to retailers who haven't been clubbed into submission by the economy, first-day sales were brisk for the album, coming on the heels of MTV’s highly rated documentary, Britney: For the Record, a Rolling Stone cover story and surprisingly rave reviews. Hey, the media owes her.

With initial guesstimates in the 350k range, Spears appears to be blowing away the pundits' first-week predictions. Based on first day sales reports, the album seems poised to top the recent first week total of the current #1, Kanye West, and, possibly, even Beyonce.

Meanwhile SRC/Universal Motown’s Akon, fresh off a hit single, will be the next highest debut of the week in the 80-90k range, while Asylum rapper (and one-time Geto Boy) Scarface looks to scare up some 30-40k in sales.

The market was up 29% vs. last week, thanks to Black Friday, basically flat vs. the same week last year and still down 14% year to date.

Britney Spears Celebrates 27th Birthday With Circus-Themed Party in NYC

The following Italicized article is from www.usmagazine.com:

Britney Spears' 27th birthday party Tuesday night ended up being quite a circus.

Literally.

To tie into the release of her latest album Circus, NYC hot spot Tenjune was transformed into a giant circus tent, complete with with a hot dog stand and popcorn and cotton candy machines emblazoned with the pop star's name and even a man on stilts and jugglers.

Outside the club, a huge screen projected circus imagery.

Spears - who had taped a speech to air on the upcoming Rockefeller Center New York City Tree Lighting Ceremony special earlier in the day - arrived in a low-cut Roberto Cavalli cocktail dress that showed a lot of cleavage.

She smiled throughout the night as she mingled with guests, including her mother Lynne Spears, her manager Larry Rudolph, Lance Bass, Jeremy Piven, Robert Buckley and Ciara.

As she was presented with a cake -- featuring sparkling candles that tied into the bash's circus theme -- Barry Weiss, CEO and president of Jive Records, told the singer, "We are so proud and so happy to be a part of your life. Looking at your two boys today, it's an amazing experience."

So what's Spears' birthday wish?

"A million more wishes! Definitely!" she told Entertainment Tonight.

Added pal Bass, "I'm so proud of her! The album's amazing. I love when people do themes for their albums. A circus is a lot of fun."

Britney Spears Lights Up New York City

Britney Spears was on hand last evening to help the City of New York light the Xmas tree at Rockefeller Center for a pre-taped event that will air on the live TV special featuring Beyoncé, Jamie Foxx and more on NBC tonight. As you may recall, Britney got her day off to an early start yesterday when she appeared on Good Morning America in the early AM and it looks like she just kept on going. Here are a few pics of Britney (looking absolutely gorgeous) taping a segment at the Rockefeller Center New York City Tree Lighting Ceremony event last night and some info on the NBC special that airs later on tonight:Rockefeller Center is about to get a lot brighter. On Wednesday evening, the 76th Christmas tree-lighting ceremony will be held in midtown. The eight-ton 72-foot Norway spruce will be illuminated at 8:58 p.m. in the center’s plaza near the skating rink and the gilded statue depicting Prometheus bringing fire to mankind. The tree, which is 40 feet round, has been decorated with 30,000 energy-efficient LED lights on 5 miles of wire, topped with a massive crystal star. It was donated by the Varanyak family in Hamilton Twp., N.J. Beyonce, Tony Bennett, Harry Connick, Jr., and Jamie Foxx are among the entertainers scheduled to perform. While the first official lighting was in 1933, the first Rockefeller Center Christmas tree was put up two years earlier during the Depression in the mud by workers building the Art Deco complex. Among those expected to attend the ceremony is a Pascagoula, Miss., family whose new home was built in part with lumber from last year’s Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, an 84-foot-tall Norway spruce. Tracey Davison and her four young daughters were displaced by Hurricane Katrina. They had moved into their first apartment just two days before the storm nearly destroyed their neighborhood near the Gulf Coast. Subsequently, Davison, a 40-year-old assistant teacher, and her daughters, with a few suitcases and bags in tow, lived in a friend’s home, at her brother’s, in a docked cruise ship and a Federal Emergency Management Agency trailer. Then Davison and Ashunti, 10, Nylah, 9, Majsa, 8, and Karly, 4, were chosen to receive a new Habitat for Humanity home that former President Jimmy Carter, among others, helped build, Davison said. The three-bedroom baby blue home was finished in September and the family moved in a couple of weeks ago. Davison says she pays a “very affordable” mortgage. Lumber from last year’s Rockefeller Center tree was used to build two-by-fours that were placed in the walls and floors in the home’s living room, Davison said. “It’s kinda like Christmas before Christmas,” Davison said after arriving in New York City. “It was a dream come true. We’re very very excited to be in the house.”

Aww … it sounds like a really great event this year. I’m glad that Britney was able to be a part of it (methinks that Brit Brit will be flying back to SoCal sometime today, which is why she won’t be on the live special tonight — I understand that she will be appearing live on The Ellen DeGeneres Show tomorrow, tho). I managed to make my way up to Rockefeller Center Monday afternoon and I got to see the massive unlit tree. The tree and the ice skating are two of the most beloved Xmas traditions that NYC has to offer … at this point, it really is beginning to look a lot like Xmas. OY!

"Cousin" Alli Break$ Her $ilence

BritBrit's former confidante / assistant / coffee-getter, Alli Sims, is worried that Britney is being pushed too hard too soon, despite her excommunication from the Pop Princess' inner circle and scapegoating by Brit's parents as an "enabler."

Alli was hired as Brit's ASSistant last year and was living with her for a while too. But, her relationship with the performer came to an end when Britney lost her shit and her parents took control, claiming Alli (who was and is BFFs with Osama Lutfi) was hurting, not helping, the situation.

Expressing concern in an interview with In Touch Weekly, Alli says, "How can they say Britney is sick and then shove her out on the road, with all that pressure?"

Good point!

But telling the media about it smacks a little too much of the Michael Lohan method.
How much did this hasbeen get paid????

Anything more than hundreds is way too much!
