Britney Spears' Choreographer Calls 'Hold It Against Me' Director 'Genius'

The following italicized article is from www.mtv.com:

Jonas Åkerlund certainly has the resume to pull off an epic clip for Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me." Having already directed spectacles like Lady Gaga's "Telephone," Madonna's "Ray of Light" and Pink's "Sober," Åkerlund is known for creating sexy, controversial and sleek pop videos. So, working with Spears was a natural fit, said her choreographer, Brian Friedman.

"[When] Jonas and I got on the phone for the first time, I was actually jumping on a plane somewhere, so the conversation was very brief, but I am a huge Jonas Åkerlund fan," Friedman dished to MTV News. "Anything that he does is magical. His eye for art is insane, so I was excited to work with someone who loves art so much and it's not just a job, it's not technical; it really is a string aesthetic to what he does."

When Friedman and Åkerlund finally did get the chance to hash it out, the conversation was about how to ensure the video would be focused on what Spears is known for: her tight and sexy dance moves.

"So with that said, I had a meeting with him at his house. We went through the video from top to bottom, and I gave him as much input from the dance side, 'cause it's a dance video, as I could to try to help bring his story to life," he recalled. "And the collaboration was incredible."

Friedman said Åkerlund completely understood his and Spears' ideas on the project, and the results, he said, are no less than stellar.

"I really feel like bringing two artists together in a way like that — where the director really loves the dance and understands the art of the dance and doesn't try to cover it up and water it down — is the best way to go," he said. "He was genius for me with dance."

Britney Spears Walks Down the Aisle – for a Friend's Wedding!

The following italicized article is from www.people.com:

Looking beautiful in blue, Britney Spears was bridesmaid in her friend's wedding in Miami Saturday.

She and boyfriend Jason Trawick flew in Thursday to partake in the weekend wedding festivities of her assistant and close friend Brett Miller.

They bunked down in an oceanfront room at the Newport Beachside Hotel where members and friends of the wedding party were staying, a source tells PEOPLE, but she didn't make it to the kickoff event.

"During Thursday night's rehearsal dinner, Britney ditched the reception and ordered room service for herself, Jason and her bodyguard," the source tells PEOPLE. "They had spaghetti bolognese, turkey burgers, chicken noodle soup, a fruit plate and one turkey sandwich."

Leaving her parents and friends at the Sunny Isles hotel Friday, Spears and Trawick moved into the Frank Sinatra Suite at the Fontainebleau in Miami beach because the Newport hotel's "pool wasn't private" enough.

Their new digs were reportedly a $35 million penthouse that rents for $15,000 a night, is four bedrooms, has a kitchen, whirlpool, piano and a large balcony overlooking the ocean.

After a few hours shopping, Spears and Trawick headed back to the Newport for another wedding party. "At one point, during the early evening Jason took Britney's hand and twirled her to a cool Frank Sinatra sound," the source tells PEOPLE. "It was cute and romantic."

The couple left the party after Spears she noticed that a group of kids spotted her in the ladies room, and headed for the Fontainebleau club LIV.

"Britney and Jason were dancing and laughing and having a great time at LIV," another source tells PEOPLE. "He was very sweet and affectionate with her. And she got very excited when her favorite songs came on."

Miller's wedding took place Saturday at Miami's Spanish Monastery where she married her sweetheart, Frank Lionetti.

Rumoured Music Video Details

Earlier this week we learned of a few new deets about Britney Spears‘s new music video for her single Hold It Against Me … but today, I have some new information that, to my knowledge, has not been reported anywhere else. According to a trusted source with direct knowledge from the Hold It Against Me music video set, Britney will be doing something very cool in her video … something she’s never done before.
So, I’m told that in the video for Hold It Against Me, Britney will be shooting paint from her hands (fingers) onto video screens. The director, Jonas Åkerlund, wanted to paint Britney‘s face for the scene but she was adamantly against having paint put on her face (I’m told she suffered a minor meltdown on set as a result). A body double stand in was used for the paint scenes that Britney was not comfortable doing. Now, we won’t really know if any of this is true until the video comes out and we see (or don’t see) Britney shooting paint from her hands … but I think this bit of info is deffo worth sharing since it’s totally new information.

We still don’t know when the video will be released but now I’m dying to know if my source is right … I’d love to see how this potential paint scene turns out.

Some Old People Talk about Britney

The following italicized article is from www.popeater.com:

Debbie Gibson argues that times have changed and that all the ups and down-down-downs that Britney has gone through in recent years have had a silver lining attached to them.

"It was a great thing for her next hit record," Debbie said of the Brit head-shaving disaster of 2007. "People were like, 'She's back. She's thriving again!' And then they want her to melt down again. And they want to lift her up again. I heard a great phrase once that goes, 'America loves a good comeback.'"

Britney Spears Sets March 15 Release Date For New LP

The following italicized article is from www.mtv.com:

As the wait for the dance-heavy video for "Hold It Against Me" continues, details regarding Britney Spears' new album have surfaced. Based on a sales-solicitation sheet, which was confirmed as accurate by a label rep to MTV News, the pop superstar's still-untitled LP is set to drop March 15.

With the rocket success of the album's lead single, it's no surprise that the singer's seventh studio album will feature "multiple songs" from pop masterminds Max Martin and Dr. Luke. Additional production credits include Rodney Jerkins, Stargate, Fraser T. Smith, Bloodshy & Avant and more. Fans can choose between a standard (soft pack/wallet packaging) version of the album and the deluxe (expanded soft pack with additional booklet pages), which will feature three or four additional tracks.

Spears has been hitting the dance studio hard, as the notice describes the forthcoming "Hold It Against Me" video as "a sexy, edgy dance piece directed by Jonas Åkerlund and showing Britney at peak form and ability." Earlier this week, MTV News took the liberty of mashing together some of the singer's most-iconic music-video dance scenes to give fans an idea of what Brit's new clip might look like.

In terms of Spears' press plans, the follow-up to 2008's Circus will be met with "a major TV event to launch the album" and a TV campaign, which will feature a variation of spots before the LP hits stores. The promotional rollout will extend to advertisements on everything from the Internet to the side of taxicabs. Other marketing schemes include a "LGBT/Lifestyle campaign," worldwide online fan contests and routine tweets from Brit.

New Music Video Details

The following italicized article is from www.mtv.com:

Sure, details are limited on what the Jonas Åkerlund-directed video for Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me" is going to look like, but when Brit's choreographer, Brian Friedman, sat down with MTV News, he teased some scintillating details about the video.

"I didn't necessarily have pressure with this — it was more excitement," he said of working with the pop diva again. "I haven't been with Britney in five years on a project, so it was excitement to be back with her. It was excitement to get her dancing really hard again 'cause she's had a couple of years where she's been dancing different styles of dance and it hasn't been me.

"It's not necessarily that she hasn't been dancing, it hasn't been what I get from her, and what I seem to get from her is this tigress quality," he continued. "And she prowls. She really dominates when she does my choreography, and that's what I wanted to get back. Excited yes, scared no."

Shot over two days last weekend, the video shows Spears in a look she tweeted from the set. The preview pic, a lo-res photo, shows Spears from the shoulders up, standing with her back to the camera and her face turned toward it. The singer is in a red outfit, surrounded by a wreath of microphones.

While Friedman danced around any specific details about the clip, he did share that the video will have 10 male dancers. He also told us his favorite part: "I love nudity," he teased.

"I can tell you that Britney is wearing a couple of hats in this video — not literal hats, but she's playing roles in this video. That is what I can give you," he explained. "In every role, she is dancing. She is going to be dancing throughout the whole video. Like I said: Dance is the focal point of this video."

He also teased a bit about the costumes: "She's taking fashion risks. Things we've never seen her wear before she's wearing in this video, and I think it's just very sexy and it's a little bit playful," he added. "She's going to be doing something in this video that we've never seen her do. I'm not gonna tell you what that is but she's going to be sweating and she's going to be getting bruised and battered."

Rep: Britney’s ‘Hold It Against Me’ Video Not Dropping After Super Bowl

The following italicized article is from www.acceshollywood.com:

Britney Spears fans will have to wait a little bit longer than Super Bowl Sunday before they see the video for her new single, “Hold It Against Me.”

Despite an online report claming the pop star will debut the video in between the game and a special Sunday episode of “Glee,” Britney’s manager, Larry Rudolph, told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush that this is not true.

“Definitely not premiering Super Bowl Sunday!” Larry told Billy on Wednesday morning.

The latest Britney rumor comes on the heels of another online report that the pop princess was scheduled to perform at the upcoming Grammy Awards, which her rep also shot down.

According to Britney’s Twitter, the video is still in the works.

“I’m so excited to see the 1st cut of the #HIAM video next week. I asked for more pics to send to you guys. Hopefully tmw…. – Brit,” she Tweeted on Tuesday.

Britney Spears' Beau Signs Back On as Agent

The following italicized article is from www.usmagazine.com:

Britney Spears' office romance is back on!

Less than nine months after the singer's beau, Jason Trawick, stepped down as her agent last May, she has resigned with his company, William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, her rep confirms to UsMagazine.com.

But an insider stresses Trawick, 39, won't be the only person handling his gal's uber-busy career.

"Jason will be part of the team handling her career," a source tells Us. "He won’t be the only agent working with her, he will handling acting endeavors, but there will be a big music department also on her account."

Behind the switch? "Jason is someone the family trusts, they know he will make the best decisions for her and she feels comfortable with him," explains the insider. "WME is absolutely the best choice for Britney. They are the best at what they do and her team recognize that."

Meanwhile the duo's nearly two-year personal relationship is going strong.

After the mother of two celebrated her 29th birthday with her man in Mexico in December, she told Us, "My birthday weekend away with Jason was amazing. Best birthday of my life!"

Britney Spears Speeds Into Pop Songs Top 10

The following italicized article is from www.billboard.com:

Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me" becomes one of just seven songs to reach the Pop Songs top 10 in only two weeks, charging 16-10 with Greatest Gainer honors (5,601 plays, up 38%, with spins detected on all 130 reporting stations) on the Nielsen BDS-based radio airplay survey.

The song logs the speediest ascent to the top tier in more than six years:

Songs to Reach the Pop Songs Top 10 in Only Two Weeks

Artist, Title, Chart Move Into Top 10, Chart Date, Peak Pos.
Britney Spears, "Hold It Against Me," 16-10, Feb. 5, 2011, tbd
Eminem, "Just Lose It," 33-10, Oct. 16, 2004, No. 5
'N Sync, "Pop," 21-10, June 9, 2001, No. 5
Madonna, "Frozen," 16-10, March 14, 1998, No. 4
the Rembrandts, "I'll Be There for You," 22-10, June 3, 1995, No. 1, eight weeks
Mariah Carey, "Dreamlover," 12-4, Aug. 21, 1993, No. 1, eight weeks
Janet Jackson, "That's the Way Love Goes," 29-9, May 8, 1993, No. 1, nine weeks

Of the prior six such songs, the three earliest went on to spend multiple weeks at No. 1. The next three, however, failed to reach the top three, raising the question: Will "Hold It Against Me" be a fast-rising - but fast-burning - radio hit? Or, can it sustain momentum?

Early programmer reaction bodes well. "Just saying the name 'Britney' conjures up instant recognition like any other intimately familiar brand," says WKCI/New Haven, Conn., program director Stan 'The Man' Priest, who considers Spears "undoubtedly a pop culture fixture."

Also a positive: "Hold It Against Me" blasted in atop Digital Songs last week with 411,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. (On the Billboard Hot 100, the song became one of just 18 in the chart's 52-year history to launch at No. 1).

Of the previous six quickest Pop Songs top 10s, only Janet Jackson's "That's the Way Love Goes" reigned at retail, having led the Hot Singles Sales physical singles sales chart for five weeks in 1993.

Unsurprisingly, all seven songs to reach the Pop Songs top 10 in a mere two weeks have introduced new albums. Spears continues the streak, as "Hold It Against Me" builds anticipation for her forthcoming seventh studio set.

Britney Spears Returning to 'Edgy' Sound on New Album

The following italicized article is from www.people.com:

While Britney Spears's new single, "Hold It Against Me," may have provided an upbeat preview of her new album, what will the rest of the work sound like?

"It's way more edgy than the last album," songwriter Claude Kelly, who composed several tracks for the as-yet-untitled album, tells PEOPLE at a New York NARAS reception. He adds that Spears, 29, is returning to the grittier sounds of 2007's Blackout. "[It's] more in the vein of the album before," he says.

Though Kelly admits he's not completely sure what the "final product is going to be," he does say, "the last album [2008's Circus] was more clean pop. [Its purpose] was to reintroduce Britney to the world as the pop princess."

As the first single also indicates, Spears, who Tweeted from her "Hold It Against Me" video shoot this weekend, has new tunes are definitely club-worthy.

"She's always ready," Kelly says. "Dr. Luke and Max Martin are running the show, and it's all about the beats. It has a heavier bass line and it's much harder, more urgent, more club. She's ready again!"

Britney Spears Is NOT Collaborating with Gucci Mane

The following italicized article is from www.gossipcop.com:

“Gucci Mane has confirmed to sources that he’s throwing down a few lines for Britney Spears‘ new album,” writes Perez Hilton, who adds, “The pair are set to meet next week in an Atlanta studio to record a track called Hit.”

Perez goes on to note, “Gucci insisted that Britney was a fan of his music for years and her adoration is what persuaded him to record a song with her.”

The blogger, who doesn’t bother to fact-check, is once again regurgitating bad dish from hacks and amateurs at other wannabe entertainment sites.

Gossip Cop, however, has learned directly from Spears’ manager that there is “no shot” of a collaboration.

The Return of Our Perfectly Imperfect Pop Star

The following italicized article is from www.huffingtonpost.com:

I've been battling the patronizing (and ridiculous) "You like Britney Spears?" question since '98.

Perhaps I was still mourning the loss of Ginger Spice, but I was immediately hooked on a case of Britney (and I've got a mall-made "Britney's Slave" t-shirt and an MTV fan special appearance or two to prove it). What can I say: there was something about those flirty, fluttering lashes, the growling and cooing pop-tastic vocals, and the "...Baby, One More Time" video's break-out-and-dance-in-midriff-baring-school-girl-garb that I wanted to replicate — I mean, that I supremely enjoyed.

Pegged from the get-go as another here today, cover of Playboy tomorrow (See: Tiffany, Debbie Gibson), Britney always seemed destined for more to me than mall tours replete with back-flips and pigtail-whipping. Then, there was her first oh-no-she-didn't! David LaChapelle-shot Rolling Stone cover... I was right. 17 and coquettishly sprawled across her bed in her antique-doll strewn Kentwood, Louisiana bedroom, Britney got her Lolita on while cuddling a purple Teletubby and flaunting her teen dream curves with a mischievously ambitious look in her eyes; what I'd like to point out as an "It's Britney, bitch!" foreshadowing gaze. Just a few gyrating-with-a-python, Madonna-kissing performances later, and a pop icon was born.

I'm 24 now, and I must confess, I still believe (sorry, had to!) in the power of Britney Spears. And I'm not exactly the only one who still wants a piece of Brit Brit. Newsflash: Britney's explosive pop gem and imminent anthem for the Chelsea gays, "Hold It Against Me", raced to Numero Uno on the iTunes charts in 17 countries just last week, shattering records and beating out Kanye West and Jay-Z's mega duet. All massively impressive for Brit Brit considering she hasn't released new material since Lady Gaga's global takeover.

But even my 87-year-old grandfather with a Star magazine penchant realizes that Britney — 29, divorcee, rehab-tress and mother of two — is no longer Disney's trillion-dollar creation of a meticulous squeaky-clean, "virginal" pop princess with superhero abs and the most desirable pop star BF in the universe. Duh.

Probably the most photographed celebrity of the past decade, the world watched as the "Lucky" singer shredded (reminder: hair, panties, a little dignity) her seemingly perfect image in the ultimate image implosion. When I'm forced to look back at those dark, depressing days, I'm pretty positive I developed severe anxiety, fearing Britney was nearing a Judy Garland not-so-yellow-brick-road trajectory. But there was a crack of light in the darkness, and I'm not just talking about the brilliance that was her haunting, bass-heavy Blackout album... The world was introduced to Britney the human.

Between the ubiquitous frappuccino runs, barefoot gas station breaks, and baby-carriage-pushing walks with her hair in messy rollers, Spears' not-so-glamorous daily life became its own jaw-dropping spectacle — a peekaboo into the life of a superstar who is in ways just like us! It's a sick and twisted obsession, but there's really nothing like watching the pop princess, who once was known for her 1,000-crunches-a-day fitness regime, puffing away at those Marlboro Lights while hitting up an In-N-Out burger drive-thru.

Every uber-fan satisfies their Britney voyeuristic appetite with a true treat: Britney's biggest fan website, Breatheheavy.com. Jordan Miller, who launched the site as a 16-year-old high school sophomore, explains: "I started out being interested in Britney because I was a fan of her music, but throughout the years of reporting on her, I've followed all the ups and downs and documented all the details."

Seven years later and now 22, Miller's still getting and giving his Britney fix -- to approximately 300,000 pageviews a day. "It's hard to explain, but something about her inspires me to write, be an artist and express myself." Well, going from being strapped to a gurney to readying her seventh buzzed-about studio album -- which boasts an a team of mega-producers like Dr. Luke, Max Martin and the rumored William Orbit (hello, Madonna's Ray of Light!) — is worthy of a little inspiration.

In today's dizzying mainstream music world saturated with pop starlets battling in a whose-drag-queen-costume-is-most-iconic, err, ironic competition, most with colorless music juxtaposed with blindingly confusing get-ups and unfortunate hair-dye/wig choices, I'm basically doing cartwheels in the streets in preparation for some Britney in 2011. I think it's safe to say we are ready for Britney; our Southern girl-next-door who makes headlines with her Walmart errands and disheveled extensions (and yes, she cleans up well too when it's show time...) — not for tripping in her S&M-friendly number at the airport like an ass-clown.

Let it be known that I think Gaga was necessary at the time -- she filled the pop star void, changed the game and performed CPR on the dying music video (and kept the pop throne lukewarm for Britney's return)... But in a sea of pop-stars-replicating-pop-stars-replicating-pop-stars, Britney stands out amongst the meat dress-wearing, whipped-cream-spewing-from-brassiere caricatures who occasionally sing.

Yep, it's perfect timing for the small-town girl-with-big-dreams-turned-pop-titan to make a "comeback" (Advice: Don't call it a comeback to hardcore Brit Brit fans). Because animal carcass dresses may expire, but having faith and loyalty in everyone's favorite pop princess never dies. And she's just like us, y'all.

Britney Spears' ''Hold It Against Me'' Debuts at #1

The following italicized article is from www.billboard.com:

Britney Spears becomes just the second artist in the Billboard Hot 100's 52-year history to debut multiple songs at No. 1, as "Hold It Against Me" blasts in at the summit.

Spears previously launched at the apex with "3" the week of Oct. 24, 2009. She joins Mariah Carey as the only acts to arrive at No. 1 more than once. Carey made such grand entrances with "Fantasy" and "One Sweet Day" in 1995 and "Honey" in 1997. (All charts will be refreshed tomorrow (Jan. 20) on Billboard.com).

"Hold It Against Me" is the 18th song to debut at No. 1 and the first since Ke$ha's "We R Who We R" the week of Nov. 13, 2010.

The track is Spears' fourth No. 1 on the Hot 100. Prior to "3," she reigned with her debut single "...Baby One More Time" (two weeks, 1999) and "Womanizer" (one week, 2008).

"Hold It Against Me" starts atop Digital Songs with 411,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. As previously reported, the sum marks the highest debut frame by a lead female artist, besting the 325,000 shifted by Taylor Swift's "Today Was a Fairytale" the week of Feb. 6, 2010.

On Radio Songs, "Hold It Against Me" begins at No. 23 with 45 million first-week audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS, the highest audience sum for a debuting title in the chart's history. The song's No. 23 entrance is the chart's best since Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body" began at the same rank the week of March 1, 2008.

The arrival of "Hold It Against Me" with an as-expected 411,000 downloads sold in its first week is not just Spears' best sales week for a digital song, but also the largest debut for a woman as a lead artist. It trumps the 325,000 that Swift's "Today Was a Fairytale" sold on the Feb. 6, 2010, chart.

This week, Spears leads two more top 10 bows: Avril Lavigne's "What the Hell" (No. 6 with 163,000) and West and Jay-Z's "H*A*M" (No. 10 with 125,000). The latter reached digital retailers one day later (Jan. 12) than the other two titles.

Britney Spears' Sporty Studio Stop, Rite Aid Run

The following italicized article is from www.celebrity-gossip.net:

Kicking off another work week with a studio visit, Britney Spears was spotted in Studio City, California on Monday afternoon (January 17).

Looking sporty in a colorful sleeveless top with black gym shorts, the pop princess was at first shielded by an umbrella-toting staffer before making a mad dash from a pack of ensuing paparazzi.

Once finished up with her musical efforts, Brit Brit, boyfriend Jason Trawick and Larry Rudolph then headed off to Rite Aid for a few personal needs before continuing along on their way.

As previously reported by GossipCenter, Miss Spears has been diligently working at the studio for the past couple weeks as she prepares a new album for her fans.

Already seeing success, Billboard "is projecting that Britney‘s new single 'Hold It Against Me' will likely become the 18th song to debut at No. 1 since their Hot 100 chart began keeping track in 1958," according to EWMusicMix.

Kanye West Wages Twitter War With Britney Spears

The following italicized article is from www.usmagazine.com:

Talk about being a poor sport!

Britney Spears' latest single has remained at the top of the iTunes charts since it debuted at midnight on Tuesday -- and Kanye West is none too pleased about it.

With his song "H.A.M. (featuring Jay-Z)" stalled in the No. 2 position behind Spears' "Hold It Against Me," the 33-year-old rapper took to Twitter get a rise out of the 29-year-old pop star.

"Yo Britney, I'm really happy for you and I'mma let you be #1, but me and Jay-Z's single is one of the best songs of all time! LOL," he wrote.

Though West later removed the tweet, that didn't stop Spears' manager Adam Leber from issuing a response on the singer's behalf.

"Thanks for 'letting' us be #1," Leber wrote sarcastically. "Much appreciated."

West later apologized, telling his followers, "On a serious note I'm truly happy for Avril Lavigne and Britney Spears. No hate in 2011...I thought LOL signified a joke."

This isn't the first time West has had beef with the "Piece of Me" singer; he reportedly had a meltdown backstage at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards when Spears replaced him as the show's opening performer.
