Vanity Fair: "The new Vanity Fair pays tribute to our favorite ladies of comedy by tarting them up for photos depicting them as the tabloid-fodder stars who unwittingly provide their comedic gold.Celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz snapped the off-the-wall shots of big names such as Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for VF's cover story on their trade.
This inside shot features Sandra Bernhard (apparently lampooning Jessica Simpson), Chelsea Handler (Britney Spears), Jenna Fischer (Lindsay Lohan), Sarah Silverman (Amy Winehouse) and Wanda Sykes (Naomi Campbell/Lil Kim). Other funny ladies shot for the spread include Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Leslie Mann, Susie Essman and Amy Sedaris.
Hollywood has come a long way since Lucille Ball broke the gender line for female comics.
"There is no question that there are a million more funny women than there used to be," director Nora Ephron tells the mag."
