Britney Spears Shatters Records with ''Hold It Against Me''

New York, NY - Perhaps USA Today sums it up best, "Spears’ new single delivers enough dizzying dance-pop ecstasy to ensure another chart-topping ride...”

Following the digital release of "Hold It Against Me" on Monday, 1/10/11, Britney Spears shatters all previous records for the most number of spins for a first or one-day at both Mediabase and BDS, according to one of the radio industry’s top analysts Kevin McCabe, founding principal of Musicrunch.

“Top 40 outlets across the country immediately put 'Hold It Against Me' in rotation and received instant-reaction airplay at America's most-influential stations including Z100 and WXRK in New York and KIIS and KAMP in Los Angeles,” states McCabe.

Sharon Dastur, program director for New York’s Z100, one of the top influential pop radio stations in the country says, "Ever since we played it yesterday, the reaction has been phenomenal. The audience loves it!"

In addition to the overwhelming fan response at radio, the sales story is also impressive; in less than a day of its release, "Hold It Against Me" is the #1 Song on iTunes.

Britney had 619 spins at Mediabase in what was only a partial day of spins for Monday, 1/10/11. At BDS, Britney had 595 first or one-day spins - also on a partial day's worth of airplay. Britney's big one-day powered her onto the BDS one-day building chart at 16* and perhaps even more impressive was her audience debut at 7*.

As expected, Spears is also a trending topic on twitter worldwide.

Album TBR before March 31st?

The following italicized article is from www.hollywoodreporter.com:

The big draw of Thursday's Hollywood Reporter/Billboard Film & TV Music Conference was undeniably producer Dr. Luke, who not only packed the afternoon Q&A session moderated by ASCAP's Randy Grimmett, but got bombarded by throngs of his own fans not a moment after the talk ended. It's a good thing he's spent so much time around megastars like Katy Perry, Ke$ha and Avril Lavigne because he handled the unruly bunch with aplomb, but coming up next is perhaps his most stressful gig yet: as co-executive producer on Britney Spears' forthcoming seventh studio album. Luke's partner? Swedish hitmaker Max Martin, who's been both a mentor and collaborator and has worked with Spears on and off since her 1999 Jive Records debut, ...Baby One More Time. Dr. Luke contributed several tracks to 2008's Circus.

A dream team, no doubt, but with Sony Music seeing a 10 percent drop in sales last quarter, and that's including Usher's platinum-plus Raymond v. Raymond under the LaFace banner, the pressure is most certainly on. "She's such an icon, I don't want to let anyone down," Dr. Luke told THR. "But most importantly, I want to make good music." The LA-based Luke, who's just coming off a repackage of Ke$ha's Animal, says he's just starting to wrap his head around the Britney album now. He anticipates it will be out in early 2011, while an insider tells THR, it will definitely hit stores before March 31, the end of Sony's fiscal year. A Jive Records rep would not comment on a release date or confirm a timeline. Other producer-songwriters said to be working on it include Darkchild and, according to Luke, Montreal newcomer Billboard (listen to a remix Billboard did of Britney's 2009 track "3" at his Myspace page).

Update - No Song Has Leaked

The following italicized article is from www.radaronline.com:

A new track from Britney Spears upcoming album has been leaked months before its planned release, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting.

The pop sensation plans to release Pleasure You - a three minute tune in which Spears stays true to form and sings about being submissive, a servant and doing whatever it takes to please her man.

The track was played to RadarOnline.com by a source connected to the singer.

The leak has infuriated record bosses at Spears’ label JIVE, who were stunned when informed of the unauthorized release by RadarOnline.com.

"We are totally unaware of the song being leaked," a JIVE rep told RadarOnline.com.

"We don't know how her song or any other artists song could have been released. We're looking into the issue."

One verse of the track is particularly colorful where the pop star sings:

"If you want to get rough in that lay on your back, I got the max suddenly I'll pull you through whatever just to pleasure you."

The song beat is soft and slow, curiously, like that of an R&B song — a monumental shift for the pop starlet.

"We can't discuss details as to if she's working on a new album," the rep told RadarOnline.com.

Britney Spears Earns Grammy Nomination for Best Dance Recording with 'Womanizer'

Britney Spears has scored a Grammy nomination for her No. 1 hit single "Womanizer" in the Best Dance Recording category. Spears previously earned a Grammy win in the same category with her mesmerizing hit "Toxic" in 2004.

"Womanizer" was the lead single from her sixth studio album Circus and climbed to the coveted No. 1 position on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart. The song rocketed to No. 1 in over 10 countries outside of the U.S. In addition to setting new records with the song last December, the global icon earned critical-accolades: Rolling Stone praised "Womanizer" as an "electro-glam stomp" and went on to describe the song as "head-boppingly hypnotic." Overall, The New York Times praised Circus, noting that "most of her new songs are crisp, cunning dance pop..." Upon the release of the album, Spears became the first female ever to have five No. 1 album debuts, and both the single and album resonated with her fans as evident by the sales. "Womanizer" sold close to 3.5 million combined digital/mobile units domestically while the album has sold 3.4 million units worldwide to date.

Spears, who has just wrapped up her international tour, recently set another record when she became the first artist in over three years to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with her new song, "3." The catchy song is from Britney Spears' new album The Singles Collection which hit stores last month. "3" has already sold over one million tracks and is presently the No. 2 pop song in the country (Source: Mediabase) and ranks No. 10 (with a bullet) on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart.

Jive Records is Pushing for Multiple Grammy Nominations

The following italicized article is from www.examiner.com:

Submissions for the 2010 Grammy Awards won’t take place until September of 2009, but we are told that Jive Records will push for the final nail in Britney’s comeback: several Grammy nominations. Her album, Circus, was released in November of 2008 and has been one of the biggest selling albums of the past year. All her singles, “Womanizer,” “Circus,” and “If U Seek Amy,” have been major hits as well.

Some may laugh at the prospect of Britney Spears winning several Grammies. However, Grammy voters not only love comebacks, but have also been more keen to dance music lately. The only categories that Britney doesn’t have a chance in are Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (for obvious reasons) and Song of the Year. She is definitely ripe for an Album of the Year nomination as well as one for Record of the Year. She’s also ripe for Best Pop Album.

One year ago, everybody was saying that Britney Spears was over with. Now, Britney is filling up arenas at top ticket prices during one of the worst recessions ever. One has to not only credit Ms. Spears for curbing her destructive behavior, but her management, father, and Jive Records deserve thumbs up as well.

Britney Spears Planning To Tour Australia

The following italicized article is from www.news.com.au:

PLANS are under way for pop superstar Britney Spears to make her first Australian tour.

Leading concert promoters are in talks with the US singer, and tour dates are expected to be scheduled for later this year.

"All the promoters are vying for it, but the bottom line is she really wants to come here and she really wants to come here this year," Sony Australia boss Denis Handlin said.

Handlin spoke to Barry Weiss, the head of Spears' American record label, last week about the tour.

"I think the promoters are battling it out at the moment," he said.

Frontier Touring's Michael Gudinski confirmed he was in discussions with Spears' management.
Gudinski said several promoters had been chasing Spears.

"I don't expect anything will be worked out or finalised for a month, but we're in there," he said.
Spears began her new Circus tour in New Orleans earlier this month.

The stadium spectacular features a rotating stage, acrobats, special effects and a greatest-hits set.

"It will be one of the biggest concert productions to come here," Gudinski said.

The Circus tour opened in the US to rave reviews.

The two-hour show has four acts: Circus; House Of Fun; Freakshow/Peepshow; and Electro-Circ.

Although some critics have panned the troubled mother of two for lip-synching in the show, reviews have been mostly positive.

Spears performs one song on a stripper pole.

The set list includes her controversial new hit, If You Seek Amy.

The following italicized article is from www.billboard.com:

Want to know what was going through Britney Spears' head during her darkest days? Tune in to MTV's 90-minute exclusive documentary "Britney: For the Record" to find out.

Airing Nov. 30, "For the Record" documents a three-month period of Spears' life earlier this year, including sessions for her upcoming Jive album, "Circus," and preparations for her appearance on MTV's Video Music Awards.

Spears Caught Up In Womnaizer Hoax

The following italicized article is from www.contactmusic.com:

BRITNEY SPEARS is at the centre of an internet hoax after computer whizz kids superimposed the singer's face on TYRA BANKS' body - and passed the images off as the CD cover of her new song WOMANIZER.

The raunchy pictures show a woman who appears to be Spears in a black corset-style leotard, brandishing a cane. In another shot, the female is shown placing her cane on a semi-naked man's chest as a snake slithers over his body.

But the images have been exposed as fakes by Spears' record label Sony BMG - because label bosses have yet to see the photographs themselves, let alone release them online.

A spokesperson for Sony BMG says, "These are nothing to do with us. We haven't even seen the official cover pictures yet because they have only just been shot."I haven't a clue why someone should do this but there are all sorts of pictures of Britney around. There's a lot of made-up stuff on the internet, too."

The photos of former supermodel Banks are the promo shots from a previous run of her reality TV show America's Next Top Model.

Does Britney Want To Make You Sweat?

The following italicized article is from www.accesshollywood.com:

Now that Britney Spears has reinvented herself, the pop star wants to help her fans reinvent their bodies — get ready to Britney-cise!

Brit hopes to release a series of workout videos, a source close the singer reportedly told the Chicago Sun-Times.

The pop star wants to share her love of dancing with others and demonstrate how it helped get her back her toned body this year, the source added.

The idea reportedly came when Brit came across her mom’s old Jane Fonda workout tapes “and popped them into an old VCR machine and got a big kick out of watching them.’’

Reps for the singer could not confirm if there was a deal in place for Britney to release a series of videos, when contacted by the newspaper, but a rep from Brit’s label, Jive/Zomba, told the Sun-Times, “The idea makes perfect sense, given Britney is a singer who uses dance so much in her act.’’

The Dude Who Leaked Britney Spears’s New Single Speaks

The tool...uh.... overeager radio DJ who leaked the snippet of Britney Spears’s new single Womanizer last week (and was subsequently fined by Sony/BMG and removed from his job at his radio station because of it) is now talking to Tennessean.com in order to tell his side of the story … while he still can cuz in about 45 mins. no one is gonna even remember his name (which I’m confused about … the initial reports stated that his name is Adam Sevalia but this new article claims his real name is Adam Davis):
WRVW (The River) personality Intern Adam said today he has been taken off the air for leaking the new Britney Spears’ single, “Womanizer” on the radio station’s Web site. “I was the first person in the world who had this, the Britney Spears’ comeback single,” he said. “I got excited; I got eager. I wanted to get this out there already, so I did. And I guess I got a little too eager.” Intern Adam, whose real name is Adam Davis (and he’s not an intern), said he doesn’t yet know if he’s been suspended or fired from the station for which he’s worked since 2004. WRVW’s Rich Davis did not return a call today. Intern Adam, 25, taped the song during a Jive Records conference call with radio programmers and posted it on the station’s Web site. He said he never played the song on the air. He would not comment on whether anyone else at the station knew beforehand what he had done. “If anyone has ever listened to The River, they know I”m a big supporter of Britney Spears. It’s ironic that Britney’s biggest supporter on the air here is off the air because I played a Britney Spears song. I don’t know what is going to happen next,” he said. “All I can say is bad press is better than no press when you are off the air. Hopefully, I’m not fired. Hopefully they’ll let me back.”

See, it’s one thing to be a supporter of someone’s professional career but I find it highly unlikely he was out for anything other than his own fame at being the first person to leak the new Britney Spears track. Did he really believe he was helping Britney by leaking a snippet of a low quality, unfinished version of her new song? I really don’t think so. In the end, he acted extremely unprofessionally and I’m not surprised that Britney’s record company is going after him and that his radio station employers have yanked him off the air. He’s really trying to ride this wave of “fame” for as long as he can … I hope he enjoys the ride. I doubt it’ll last much longer.
