As you may know the 2009 VMA's will be held this Sunday, September 13th in New York and for some days now there have been rumours of the possibillity of Britney attending or not...

...below you can see a list of several rumours:

#1 Britney will not be attending the VMA's in any form what-so-ever.
#2 Britney will perform a special musical segment with Russell Brand where she'll dance and sing.
#3 Britney will perform the 'Piece of Me' performance from the tour.
#4 Britney will only appear at the VMA's. She will not perform.
#5 Britney will appear via a pre-recorded skit.

My money is on #5 but I'm hoping for #2 of course...but we'll just have wait and find out this Sunday live at 9PM on MTV.

Controversial comedian RUSSELL BRAND recently gave sex tips to BRITNEY SPEARS - but was left red-faced when he tried to demonstrate a bedroom technique.

The British funnyman met the Toxic hitmaker when he hosted the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this month (Sep08).

And the serial womaniser was happy to pass on his experience between the sheets - but the conversation didn't quite go according to plan.

He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "I did describe one very basic sexual technique to Britney, which I think she would have hugely benefited from. But I wasn't able to demonstrate, so it was a dismal failure."

Brand also admits he was surprised by the attitude of Americans he met while travelling across the States to film a documentary.

Asked about the differences between U.S. audiences and those in his native Britain, he says, "When an English journalist asks that question, they want me to go, 'American audiences are stupid'. But that is not what I've found.

"I made a documentary about (American novelist/poet) Jack Kerouac a year ago, and travelling across America I met people that look like slack-jawed, gap-toothed hillbillies. I thought, 'This'll be a laugh'. But when I went to talk to them, they talked about (philosopher) Noam Chomsky, the Federal Reserve, the worthlessness of the dollar - there was unbelievable awareness.

Britney, who has already clocked up two ill-fated marriages with Kevin Federline and Jason Alexander, has been single since splitting from Birmingham born paparazzo Adnan Ghalib earlier this year.

2008's MTV Video Music Awards delivered!

In the key 18-34 demographic, this year's show ratings were 15% higher than the 2007 broadcast and 41% higher than the 2006 edition.

The show was also the highest-rated telecast on all of cable in the 12-34 demo this year.

We guess casting the unknown Brit comic Russell Brand didn't bite the net in the ass!
MTV.com also saw a boost this year.

Its VMA-related pages delivered more than 10 million page views, a 110% increase over last year.

But, y'all know there's a certain someone MTV needs to tip its hat to for the massive ratings.

Stars Align for Britney

After last year's disastrous performance at the VMAs, the pressure was on Britney Spears to shine like she used to. According to the assembled celebs, the Britster's star was shining as bright as ever.

Out on the red carpet before the show, attendees told OK! they were excited to see Britney perform and do well.

"I think she’s going to kill it," said DJ AM. "I’m very excited for her. I’m a fan – haven’t seen her in a while because she’s been in the gym doing push-ups and she’s going to come out and blow everybody away."

Def Jam founder Russell Simmons was also optimistic and hopeful for Brit, telling OK! the pop star deserves to do well. "I hope she blows it up. She’s worked so hard. They’re so mean to her. They’re so hard on her."

In the press room during the show, The Hills star Lauren Conrad raved over Britney's awards night look.

"She looks amazing," she said. "I was kind of hoping for a performance but that’s just because I’m a Britney fan."

As Britney accepted another award on the screen in the press room, LC got nervous that she's about to miss her performance. "Did I just miss it? I was about to do a mad sprint."

Britney walked away from the ceremony with three awards: Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and the coveted Best Video of the Year, awards that many were delighted to see her receive.

Host Russell Brand, who appeared in a number of promo spots for the VMAs with Britney, was happy she won her first three Moonmen.

"I really enjoyed it," he told reporters of the night overall. "I had a lovely time. I liked Britney winning the awards and the bit where Lil Wayne touched my legs."

Britney's former party partner, Paris Hilton, was also happy for her old friend.

"I actually just presented her an award," said Paris of the silver-clad popstar. "She looks beautiful. I’m so happy for her."

What was that Paris said on stage as she handed her the award for Best Pop Video?

"I love you. I miss you and so good to see you. She looked beautiful. I love her dress," Paris gushed.

If that kind of a night isn't a comeback, we don't know what is.

VMA Host Offers Clues About Britney Spears' Opening Act

But he'll tell you this much: "She's not serving canapés or doing a bizarre haircut on herself!" he said on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show Thursday.

"She's not performing, but she's certainly doing [the show] in a professional capacity," said Brand, 33, who serves as host.

He admitted he has some tricks up his sleeve for the pop star.

"I might get the opportunity to pinch her back in revenge for the trailer," he joked, referencing their cheeky TV promo. "I know at some point I will try and pinch her!"

In a statement Wednesday, the 26-year-old singer — who suffered an embarrassing performance at last year's show — said she was "excited" about returning to the stage.

"MTV has long played an important role in my career," she said. "How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMAs?"

Spears, who has been nominated 17 times, is also up for three awards for her "Piece of Me" video.

Plenty of people will be rooting for her.

"She is so on her game and ready to prove to everyone that she is back," Lance Bass told Usmagazine.com at a Facebreaker bash in Hollywood on Wednesday. "She needs no advice from me - she is a seasoned professional."

The singer has been shortlisted by MTV voters as one of the nominees at this year's Video Music Awards (VMAs) for 'Piece of Me', it has been revealed.

The votes were cast online. Britney's is the only nominee whose name has come out – the names of the other women in her category remain under wraps. Her competition, as well as contenders for Best Male Video, will be unveiled on Pete Wentz's FN'MTV Friday night at 8 p.m.

The nomination gives the 26-year-old 15 total in her career; however, Britney has yet to score a Moon Man at the award show.

Britney's performance at last year's VMAs was branded the most "perplexing and vilified" in recent award show history.

Many speculated that the lackluster performance was down to Spears being thrown off after hearing comedian Sarah Silverman rehearse her monologue (which ripped Spears and called her kids "mistakes").

As well as being vilified by her fans, three New York newspapers tore into Spears' perceived comeback in their front-section news pages: "Britney Spears phoned it in for her 'comeback' performance ... It was a far cry from her energetic outings at VMAs past," the Daily News wrote.

"Totally lame, pathetically lip-synched," lamented the New York Post. As for "Gimme More," said the paper, "the song about lusting for too much wasn't enough to launch a dinghy, let alone re-launch the career of this ditzy disaster."

The New York Times said of Spears: "She didn't disappoint; she was awful. Visibly nervous, she tottered around the stage, dancing tentatively and doing nothing that sounded or looked like real live singing."

Britney was said to be embarrassed by the performance.

A source told People magazine last year, "She was just plain nervous because of all the hype and she's embarrassed."

Meanwhile, another surprising choice for this year's event: the host. British comedian Russell Brand will take the reigns when the show airs live on September 7, it was confirmed yesterday.

"I've just been invited to do it," Brand said.

"It'll be good to preside over what is sure to be only vaguely coordinated televised insanity.

"That's how I've made my name in [England]: Flying very much by the seat — and the crotch — of my pants."

Brand, 33, was recently criticized for making a hoax call to the emergency services during a stand-up gig.

It’s good that Madonna is helping her rebuild her career, but I’m still not convinced I’m ready to see her stripped down to her smalls.

And in one scene to be broadcast during the tour — which opens in Cardiff on August 23 — Britney loses her mind after getting stuck in a lift in a short film by New York photographer STEVEN KLEIN.
